Channel your inner Fran Fraschilla all you want, but you and I both know very well that there are plenty of upsets in conference tournaments every year. The best teams don't always win, thus creating the whole "Bubble Watch" phenomenom as teams like State and VT root for the favorites from the conferences so their own bids don't get stolen out from underneath them. This has been going on since long before either of us have been posting here, so I can't fathom why you're still barking up this tree. 2/7/2012 10:01:48 AM |

Virginia is not already in. They can play their way out. They are 6-3 in the conference with only one big win (Michigan) and two bad losses (Virginia Tech and TCU).
Their remaining schedule is similar to ours with 3 difficult games (UNC twice and FSU once more) and the rest are easy. They lose those 3 and fuck up once or twice more, and they're looking to be heavy on the bubble. 2/7/2012 10:11:46 AM |

^ I think if they only "fuck up" one of the games they should win, and they finish at 9-7...they can easily be out.
I agree with you that they're in right now...and in at 10-6. I'm just saying that it's not that far-fetched that they don't make it. Other than their record (padded by a shitty OOC), their resume is not that impressive. 2/7/2012 10:21:47 AM |

Miami plays us at home. We've already played them at their place, which we won. I think we will win that game and sweep Miami, because we have the added benefit of home court advantage. If we sweep Miami and have the same record as them, I think the fact that we swept them will make the NCAA put us in over them if it comes down to that. 2/11/2012 11:45:47 AM |

I think he is inferring that if UNC keeps losing every game it makes our two 30 point losses to them look REALLY bad.
Uva is in over us already so no worries.
Miami beating Fsu is ok as long as we beat Miami. But if we are going to lose to Miami and beat Fsu I'd rather Fsu win.
Miami is playing really well since our game, they deserve the tourney more than we do honestly. They'll get credit for not having Johnson early if they keep winning 2/11/2012 2:20:49 PM |

I personally see today's game between UNC and UVA as a win-win. It's always nice when UNC loses, but if they win, it gives us a little more cushion between us and UVA. They own the tie-breaker over us, and we only play them once. I personally would like to finish in the Top 4 and have a bye in the ACC tournament. If we were to somehow go on a run to the ACC championship game, it would make our chances better to win it if we only had to play 2 games to get there, rather than 3. See Sid's first year, where we didn't have the legs (as well as talent) to stay with UNC to the end, but kept the game close (it was a 4 point game with 31 seconds left). 2/11/2012 2:30:48 PM |

If we are the 4-5 seed the important thing is to win the 4-5 game obviously, but I think the team that plays the #12 seed gets one more win to add to their resume and gets jitters out before their big game.
Definitely doesn't help you the next two rounds though 2/11/2012 2:33:56 PM |

ya, I'm with you on that one. 5 seed gets an easy first game and has their game legs under them against the four seed. thats two tourney wins and looks pretty good. 2/11/2012 2:38:29 PM |

lol at anyone who would rather finish 5th in the regular season than 4th for any reason including ACC tournament seedings
you'd rather possibly play a Georgia Tech team that already beat us in Raleigh this year than have a first round bye? you think in a 3-4 day tournament its more important to get 'warmed up' in a thursday game than potentially have fresher legs on sunday?

the only good thing is the extra win...which is not a foregone conclusion since the current 12-seed already beat us in our own building this year
and i don't think getting 4 days off instead of 5 is going to give us some kind of inherent advantage in our friday game should we advance...if we come out flat 5 months into the season, we've got serious problems
might as well not want us to be ranked so we won't let it go to our heads!] 2/11/2012 3:15:38 PM |

This year we've basically achieved our expectations which was to be a bubble team.
Unfortunately , weve had a lot of good chances to turn the corner into being a good team but just couldn't get it done so far.
Gotta pray there is no offseason nc state shit where guys transfer or go pro because everything is falling into place for next year.
I think we go 0-3 vs the gauntlet of rape and only one of the games is relatively close.
Then 2-1 vs Clemson, Miami, Vt. Sets us up for 1 acct win and then its up to us to pull off a miracle in round 2 for a shot at the ncaa.
We just look like we are crawling to the finish. We're still struggling defensively, we can't control our turnovers, and lately we can't even rebound. I think our lack of depth is catching up with us. We needed this week off badly, but I'm not sure its going to be enough. The FSU game is the one we should be focusing on in practice preparation 2/12/2012 3:27:55 PM |

If we can get some good perimeter defense vs Duke I think we have a legitimate shot at beating them, and having already played at Carolina, the "wow" factor of playing at Cameron shouldn't be so overwhelming like it seemed when we played UNC the first time. 2/12/2012 3:36:32 PM |
