I'm actually astonished that we were able to stay in this game with both of these guys playing like pure shit.

Its scary to think how good we could be if everyone was clicking on all cylinders...but I don't even like to mention it because CJW mailed it in a couple weeks ago and Scott Wood disappears unless we're playing the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Hopefully Leslie/Brown/Howell can carry us to at least the 2nd round and maybe we'll luck up and get a good game out of Wood.

After NC State's close loss to rival North Carolina Saturday, the remaining ACC bubble teams have officially bowed out of the conference postseason. So where do they stand? Miami is in trouble after Friday's loss to Florida State, but not totally out of the picture, depending on how much weight the committee gives to that marquee win at Duke. NC State, meanwhile, has to feel more confident about its bid. If the committee saw Saturday's loss (preceded by a win over Virginia), they saw a team play one of the nation's best close for all 40 minutes -- the last eight of which came without its best player, C.J. Leslie, who fouled out on a massive mistake by the NCSU coaching staff -- and one that received the worst end of a universally bad officiating performance by the ACC referees. (When Pack fans complain that Duke and UNC get all the calls, Kendall Marshall's apparent game-winning charge is what they mean.) In any case, the committee was no doubt in front of the TV, and even without the win, NC State's effort seems likely to be rewarded.

North Carolina State [22-12 (9-7), RPI: 47, SOS: 30] Mark Gottfried's team entered the day as one of Joe Lunardi's last four teams in the tournament, which is a pretty good spot to be when your worst-case scenario is a loss to putative No. 1 seed North Carolina. An uncompetitive blowout loss might have changed this status for the worse, but what NC State did -- playing UNC close to the final buzzer, and getting the wrong end of a couple key calls (the refs were bad for both teams, but there's little question NC State felt a lion's share of the pain) -- certainly can't hurt their chances, can it? The Pack is far from a lock, of course (there's that pesky 2-9 record against the top 50), but they're in much better shape than when they arrived in Atlanta. That much is for sure.

Almost happens every time UNC plays us. But I see lots of games where the the whole team has solid games.

And I'm not even saying we need them to be crushing it. But Wood SHOULD hit at least half of his WIDE OPEN threes. CJW shouldn't be committing dumb fouls, missing open jumpers, and turning the ball over for THREE STRAIGHT WEEKS.

Unfortunately I had to listen via radio at work...I knew it must have been getting silly when Gary Hahn finally broke down and said something to the effect of "There have really been a lot of bad calls against State here...and frankly I'm getting sick of it"

GG Pack - Sticking in there despite shitty calls and less than stellar shooting. Zo, Leslie and Howell (for his rebounding effort) carried this team.

FUCK and now that I am actually able to stare at that gif fifty times...KM literally jumps shoulder first into Johnson on that play. GOD DAMN. That's all.

Really impressed that we hung around given the bad calls. To be fair, the ref didn't turn the ball over on the last 2 possessions. Should have gotten the charge call. But could have won the game despite the bad calls.

I'm over the anger and want to give props to the team for not giving up. Several times during the game I fully expected them to pack it in. I thought for sure once Leslie fouled out they would fold. I'm proud of how much they hustled and the heart they showed. We are not deep enough nor have we learned how to win close games against superior teams. With some depth and the experience we've gained in just year one of a new coach, next year looks very promising.

sure, you can be fouled without the ball, bu there was contact both ways there, as guys were going for the ball. I don't like it, but I don't see how you can call a foul there. they're going for the ball. UNC has as much a right to go for the ball as we do.

I can't complain about the call at the end but I think for most people that was just the culmination of all the bad calls up to that point. Watching the gifs of the Marshall and Leslie plays beside each other shows exactly why people are pissed. If you call that on Leslie then Marshall's is even more a charge because he lowered the shoulder and pushed as opposed to Leslie just running him over. Defense by both players was pretty much exactly the same on both plays. I don't mind the charge call on Leslie there its a 50/50 call but it's 100% a charge on Marshall if that is the call.

The game was called completely different in the last minute to the rest of the game. That's the point. Suddenly, charges that were called all game are no calls. Loose ball fouls that are called all game are not called.

Kendall Marshall said in the press conference that in the last drive of games, ticky-tacky fouls are not given that often, so it was worth taking that risk.

Well you do need to attack the basket and have that killer instinct, especially with both teams in foul trouble. Would have been nice if we did the same thing instead of throwing it away on finesse passing.
