ok after researching the stone ages of nc state football. I'd say a chance for arguably our best season since the 70s.

[Edited on November 11, 2015 at 2:31 PM. Reason : holy shit we were dominant in football and basketball at the same time]

wow. that's awesome. 9-3, at best, with an invite to a second tier bowl game. best. season. ever. man our football program really does completely suck.

for some reason, I always thought that gator bowl year was our best season ever. I guess because of my age, I never thought about the conference championships in the 50s 60s and 70s. One thing about me is that I'll provide full disclosure and transparency when I'm wrong. You can't say that about many posters.

^^ this is true. I for one admire his objectivity. And to be honest, in football do you really count the ACC before FSU joined? So I wouldnt say you were fundamentally incorrect E man, although I might throw in that year that P. Riv beat the shit out of that other Wolf Padck team as the best

Trolls feeding trolls.

P Rivers season in 2002-2003 when we beat ND in the Gator Bowl for our only double digit win season is easily our best season in modern history. We don't have a chance at 11 wins nor a top 12 ranking so STFU Earl.

sorry, not Wolf Pack, was thinking of Nevada, but it's New Mexico instead, I agree, with that win that was the best season. However not getting blown out by Ohio State AND beating Texas Tech and UConn the following year was pretty big

I agree with Rivers' junior season being our best season in recent memory. Seems pretty obvious, since we haven't won a conference championship since the late 70s so it's all about wins, and 11 is the most. Ultimately it's about wins and losses. Like how our 8 conference losses 2 years ago were our worst season in school history.

i agree...but i'd also like to point out that we did play 13 regular season games + a bowl that year...so the 11 wins is somewhat inflated. but, yeah, it's still our best season in recent history.

I would argue playing up to 10 wins in a tough division is a better season than playing down to 11 wins in a shitty conference but I know most people here wouldn't buy that so I'm not even going to put it out there.

I read somewhere that we haven't had an opponent called for an offensive hold all season. I'm pretty sure our front line isn't all that bad to not get a hold call.

^i definitely don't remember offensive holding being called in our favor this year. tbh, offensive holding seems to have hardly been called at all this year. it doesn't make sense, imo.

refs definitely missed blatant holds yesterday.

If that played out, I'd definitely be rooting for muh Vawls. If Tennessee lost in football to State in the CecilsCockRing.com Bowl, you'd leave TWW forever.

I think we have a chance of keeping this close. Our offense won't have trouble running on UNC. I think our D line is one of the best units they have played this year.

I don't think it's a stretch to say we're one of the best (possibly even the best at this point) teams UNC has faced this year, and that's really, really sad.

^^^burris sounds like he'll play

^yeah...by no means are we all that good, but we'll be probably as tough of a test as they've face all year. especially since it's in raleigh. i think we have a better home field advantage than pitt did.

Eh, UNC has played a weak ass schedule, but I'd argue that VT and Pitt are better teams then our squad. We lost to VT with their starting QB out and Pitt just beat Louisville.

That game at VT was their toughest of the season. VT had all the emotion with it being Beamer's last home game and them fighting to keep that pointless bowl streak alive.

UNC's season, outside of the INTs in the SC game, has played out perfectly. The only preseason "good" team in the Coastal, GT, shat the bed massively, only Pitt stepped up and that is with a 1st year coach and it's best player (Conner) out for the season, and everyone else was average to bad. That could never happen for State.

VT is definitely better than us. And UNC-CH just beat them in one of the toughest atmospheres they could play them in. Not feeling good about this game.

VT is awful. A good atmosphere doesn't make up for a bad team and questionable coaching (Beamer should have retired already).

Luckily this is a rivalry game so we should make it closer than it should be.

Agreed.

We will dominate them. They still cannot stop the run and their offense is suspect upfront.

They've played terribly bad defenses. Hopefully Hux dials up more of those same formations and lineman splits that threw them off so bad last year.

^^I didnt say they were good. They are pretty bad, especially their offense. I said they were better than us. As shown when the whooped us in October.

Considering that UNC-CH was beating them pretty convincingly until their QB made a bunch of terrible plays in the final 2 minutes, I would be surprised if we keep this within 3 scores. But you never know with rivalry games.

[Edited on November 24, 2015 at 12:09 PM. Reason : ^ VTs defense is actually pretty good.]

I think the Military Bowl will make a strong play for NC State if the Hokies go to the Belk Bowl.

If that happens, I'll give y'all a long post on what to do, where to stay, and where to eat in the area.

Would rather play a P5 team. Interesting thing is if we beat a P5 team in a bowl game it will probably be the best win of DD's career.

and according to this, it looks like duke has a better shot at the military bowl than we do.

yeah i don't wanna play navy. they should definitely beat us and it's not a very appealing matchup. i'd rather go to detroit or shreveport and play a P5 team...even if we lose, seems like a more appealing/interesting matchup

5-7 San Jose State really making a bowl? Way too many of them.

Tulsa is a better "name". Navy beats both.

for the sake of playing a "name" team, yeah i'd prefer Navy to SJSU. i'm not saying i don't wanna play navy because they're great, although i do think they're better than us. but what i was saying was that i'd prefer a SEC or B1G opponent (shreveport or detroit) simply for the name. not to mention, the extra practices in preparation for the bowl are not as important/helpful if you're prepping for an option offense that you may see at most once in 2016.
