So today I installed a Voltquartsen match trigger, mag safety delete, bolt release detent delete (can rack the bolt to release now) and a pointless but fun compensator from Tactical Solutions. The trigger feels night and day different, mags drop out freely, etc...a world of difference. Only thing left is to improve the sights...and get a supressor, but I'm waiting until after we move for that heh."

you could just buy a Mark II and skip all that. i've got a Mark II Target with a 6 7/8" barrel and i love it.

I need to order a tactical solutions barrel for my Mark III. I have one for my 10/22 that I've been very pleased with, and I cant think of a better gun to run a supressor on.

Nice, I didn't know RA even sold BCM BCG's. I was tempted to get one of RA's NiB Thunder Bolts when they were in stock the other day

I believe it's worthwhile to denote +P when discussing the caliber of a firearm so you dont blow yourself up, obviously.

and yes I have see the caliber denoted with +P on the frame of a revolver before, Im sure it was a Taurus actually.

Yeah, probably would've come out the same though, if I'd purchased a threaded light-weight upper like I have on this one. Plus I tend to like buying new guns, I hate to search for decent used ones, aside from military surplus stuff that is

What are you guys using for ear protection. I lost me trusty ear muffs and need to replace them with something comfortable.

^^^ cheap-ass winchester ear plugs from Walmart. I find them comfortable and to be good noise reducers. I also wear them when mowing my lawn.

"Anyone else love Rugers, but really only after heavily modifying them?"

I never thought of myself as liking any one brand, but I have five Rugers.
I did the modded 10/22 thing; trigger job, new stock and match barrel, big scopes, headspaced and radiused bolt, action set screw, bedding, etc. I got it easily shooting sub MOA. Then one day I decided it was a lot more fun as a little light weight carbine so I ditched all the fancy stuff. Now it's back to looking like a stock gun except for a set of peep sights.

I've got a 22/45 mk iii target and it's my favorite gun. I won't be doing anything to it except converting the grip to take 1911 grips sometime down the road. I'll probably make micarta grips for it.
I've done a lot of gun modding/light gunsmithing in the past and I guess as I get older I just find myself appreciating the original designs more. I still do trigger jobs on most of my guns though.

^^i like cheap ear plugs too. Ive always got some stashed somewhere so I never have to go without hearing protection, the nrr is good, and they're light and don't make you sweat.

do you feel that 45ACP and 308 are hearing safe with a can? I've heard several people warn me not to shoot 308 suppressed without hearing protection.

^ Why would an indoor range not allow ear plugs? I have ear plugs that work a lot better than most muffs. For indoor ranges that seem particularly loud, I like to wear plugs under muffs.

because they are easy to insert incorrectly? i don't know, it was the rule at the range back home, thought i saw something at the place of Tryon too.

Eagle 1 was robbed the other day, I don't understand how they've stayed in business this long. Their safety policies and range layout are sketchy.

Also what about the range layout is sketchy?

Because .45 is naturally subsonic it's not a problem. When it comes to the larger calibers, a 300 blackout and some .223 can be found subsonic. If you have a bolt action 300blkout with my 762sdn6, it's quieter than a surpressed hk mp5. I have not put it on a 308 yet, but I will in the next few weeks.

Let me know if you want to head out shooting and hear for yourself.

Is there a point in going up to .308 from 300blk? If staying sub sonic I think blk handles 200grain bullets better and they are limited to the same velocity so the smaller round is atleast as powerful as the .308 in this case.

The effective range for 300blk is. Pretty short, especially when you load them subsonic

as far as ballistics is concerned, if you're throwing the same bullet at the same speed, then there's no difference. i think that's what sumfoo1 was getting at.

well about safety they have had multiple accidental discharges. as far as the layout, i don't like how you have to squeeze past people, it gets too crowded in there.

i've never heard of anyone shooting subsonic .308, don't think it is very common. i wouldn't really compare .308 to .300blk, even though the same caliber they don't really have the same usages at all (eg rare to find a .308 SBR, extremely common to find a 300blk SBR / pistol)

it's not like a can is totally useless unless you're staying subsonic. there's a reason all the long range practical shooting sniper wannabe types use cans now.

I've shot 45ACP suppressed, and it's not what I would describe as quiet.

I'm building a SBR 300 blackout, but my SDN762 is in can jail right now waiting on the stamps to come back.

Glock 26. May be a little wide though. Are you against revolvers? I personally carry an Ultra Lite IWB at ~1:00. I prefer revolvers in general though.

I currently carry a Kel-Tec PF9. Mine is 100% reliable now, but wasn't when I bought it. I had to replace the mag catch since it would drop mags after a couple of shot. I also bought it used.

If I had my way, my carry gun would be a S&W M&P Shield in 9mm. Other guns on my carry list in no particular order are the Ruger LC9, Sig P938, and Springfield Armory XDS 9.

As you can see, I'm a fan of the single stack 9mm platform. I'd never carry a Glock 26 because of the thickness. The S&W M&P 9c for the same reason.

If I had to move away from 9mm, I'd look at the constellation of .380 carry pistols out there. I don't see how people conceal carry big guns.

.308 subsonic exists, and is awesome, but hard to find for some folks.

No reason to choose that over .300blk, if you're purpose building a suppressed gun.

Cans for long range...shoot slow. That suppressor wash can through off your mirage reading.

Beretta Nano. Single stack 9, sleek body designed for no-catch withdrawal from conceal, great smooth trigger. Needs a little massaging to break in the spring but mine is 100% reliable.

i didn't either, but it'll last forever and if it doesn't they'll fix it for free, no questions asked. i fucked mine up because i was a retard and didn't know how to take it apart and they fixed it for free.

RCBS has copied it and it's $80, but i prefer the dillon version: http://www.brownells.com/reloading/case-preparation/primer-pocket-tools/reamers-swagers/rcbs-primer-pocket-swager-bench-tool-prod54151.aspx

CH4D makes this, which is reasonably priced and most users like it: http://www.ch4d.com/catalog/priming/psk

RCBS used to make something similar to that called the "primer pocket swager combo". i used a buddy's once and it was ok, but kinda cheesy imo.

or you can just buy a primer pocket crimp reamer and stick it in a drill. i prefer a small bench-top drill press so i don't have to hold a trigger down on a hand drill.

What's a good actual gun smith in raleigh ?

I'm not talking about someone who can just assemble and ar or something i'm talking about someone who knows how to mount a scope on a gun without provisions for one, or someone who's actually talented at bedding a stock.

Thanks.

-Foo1

I'd really like to get an optic properly mounted on my mosin along with getting it properly glass bedded. ( i know you laugh ) but i just want it to be all it can be and stop shooting just the cheapest rounds for it. Maybe even start loading for it.
