are you catholic? do only catholic people give up stuff for lent? and if other people give up stuff, is it because that is normal or because they're just following the crowd?

honest questions

i grew up presbyterian and no one in my church gave up anything for lent...i never even really knew people did until i was older. of course my family wasn't really hardcore religious, we'd go like a couple times a month, but not every sunday. but i know other people in our church didn't give up things for lent either, so i just don't really know how it works, lol.

It's not only Catholic. I'm pretty sure my roommate is an Episcopalian and he does. I'm actually a confirmed Catholic but I don't really practice at this point. It's something I'd probably like to get back in to once I have a family and whatnot...

Not to be nosy or anything. I just had the opportunity to move to the UK for work a while ago, and deferred the decision. The opportunity went away, but it's a strong possibility that it may come back up.
