The fullsize 1911 is hard to conceal in the summer but oh so easy to shoot well for me. It is a gun with tons of edges and controls, so you have to want to carry and be proficient with it.


The number one gripe I have with some friends that want to carry/be more prepared is not spending $100 or so on a real belt to carry on and a real holster. They are always printing and messing with guns that should be easy to carry and conceal. I have carried my all steel 1911 on a wilderness 5 stitch nylon belt and a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. I really like my J frame in a Wild Bills ( even around anymore?) pocket holster when a fullsize gun is not an option.

Tried the Sig Nightmare 1911, excellent pistol, crap mags that bind up. 2-3 lb trigger on the one I tried. I'd pick one up.

The Les Baer target pistol with a red dot was quite impressive. Pulling the slide back was like rolling on ball bearings. Very well put together.

PPU and Sellier / Bellot is all boxer brass. Shoots good although a bit underpowered I seem to recall.

is it just me or does anyone else feel like winchester pistol ammo shoots kinda dirty?

I mean i'll shoot it because hell i just got 100rnds for 24 bucks and thats hard to beat right now and i need the brass for my stash but it seems there is a lot more soot around the muzzle of my pistols after shooting winchester when compared to federal or rem.

it all depends on what sort of powder they're using. you might find winchester white box .45 to be dirty, but the .380 WWB may shoot clean. it's a crapshoot.

one thing is certain: if you roll your own, then you can pick a powder that you find to shoot cleaner.

Well, sig scorpion is gone. Ran it in a class last weekend, and decided that a 1911 is just not really for me. It ran perfectly, and shot well, and was overall happy with its performance. Then I got out my glock and decided the 1911 will not be joining me stables again.

Traded it today for a Saiga .223 AK-47, with 9 mags. KVAR Plum furniture.






Now, someone tell me how to add a folding stock.

I think that adding an original style folding stock (underfolder or triangle side fold) would require you to change out the receiver. I'm sure that there are aftermarket style folders out there that don't require nearly as much work.

I'm trying to decide on a scope for my M1A scout. I'm leaning heavy towards the Leopold VR-X in a 1.5-4.5 power range, but I'm not sure if the forward mount is going to cause heat issues with that particular scope. I'm also weighing the options of an Trijicon Accupoint in a similar range or possibly even an ACOG if they allow enough eye relief.

Anyone have any good advice on forward mounted scopes?

there aren't many aftermarket trigger options for the savage because the factory trigger is good enough, especially the target version with the red blade. if you need something better than that, then you're having a custom action built and there's nothing Remington about a custom 700 action.

it's just a 16" lightweight middy with a free float handguard. one of the most common AR configurations you'll find. you could hunt with it, do defensive carbine stuff, or even 3 gun sort of stuff.

HB937 is in danger. You people need to get on the horn to sheriffs, the NCGA, and Pat McCrony. HB937 is one of the most expansive and important gun bills ever in this state. Obviously it doesn't surpass the CCH bill, but it's right up there with HB650 (Castle Doctrine).

Cant decide if I want to buy a Mossberg 500 or 930.

I definitely want wood instead of synthetic, but I dont think the 930 comes in a combo package.

I want a 28 inch and 18.5 inch barrel.

I know the 500 is tried and tested. I had a tactical model years ago and I believe the Army uses that or the 590. I believe the 590 is the same except beefier with some more specialized models?

The only autoloaders Ive ever had were a Remington 11-87 and a Benelli M3. I liked the Benelli because it wasnt gas operated and didnt make a big mess of itself, but it was too pricey for its intended job.

930 reviews look like a mixed bag. Autoloaders are understandably more sensitive to ammo type, but I cant find if the design has any glaring weak links? For example, I dont like a CZ712 because of the rubber O-ring in the gas assembly that you can only source from CZ.

I have a Beretta 1201fp and it uses the same system as the Benelli and much cheaper. Got mine for around $500 and it has fed everything I threw at it.

The 500 and 590 are nearly the same, with 90% being identical. They look the same, but internals do not swap around. The stocks can be swapped. The barrel/feed tube are different systems.
I have not heard anything negative about the 930 from the few people I know that have them.

My opinion: 500=cheap and reliable. 930=more fun
