You say that now, but in all likelihood he'd probably be a less talented Dennis Horner as a senior.

uh, no. no. but no use in speculating.

plus, i wouldn't mind horner coming off the bench. unfortunately, we had to start him.

Well that sucks. Not a huge loss talent wise, but he was a very solid player who did what was asked of him. Hustled, rebounded and defended very well. Hate to see him go.

I don't like losing athleticism. You can never go wrong with a good rebounder, hustler, defensive guy. Davis got off the floor quicker than anyone on our team last year.

I understand PT may be limited next year, but he could have stayed with the program for 4 years and gotten good minutes.

So this frees up two schollies now, right?

All expectations are for Mabry to use Mays and then save this one for next year? or is there a secret signing in the works?

I thought last I heard the staff had decided to pass on Mabry, but that may have been before the news on Davis

so we are going to have an extra open scholly going into next year? wow, never saw that one coming.

this may be good if we can lock down another 4*+ talent early on going into next year with it. we are likely to lose alot of talent after this year anyways

correct me if i'm wrong:

if we're done recruiting for the year, we'll def have 4 schollies for '11 (smith, javi, mays & davis).

if leslie leaves, and/or any other early departures, we'll have 5+.

and of course, there's the thomas wild card.

sid best get to recruiting for '11!

I'd love for Lowe to be able to sell playing time to some solid 4* and high 3* players in the 2011 class and be able to boast another Top 25 recruiting class. We could potentially have 6 open scholarships next season if CJL and JT don't return.

well FWIW gravis at PP thinks Leslie will be here for two.

If so, two years from now the rotation will look something like:
Harrow
Brown
Leslie/Wood
Howell/Leslie
Painter/Vandenberg

With CJW and maybe Thomas also seeing some minutes.

We can sell PT to a second tier combo guard (someone like Seagears) and a big (to a slightly lesser extent)

leslie thinks he'll be here for one year, so right now all gravis is doing is speculating on how he'll perform.

The best recuiting Sid can do this year is on the court. The recruits will come if he can get the Pack into the National Spotlight this year

that's too bad about Mabry. Best wishes to Davis - you'll be missed!

I don't foresee Leslie staying more than 1 year.

Hopefully the coaching staff can lock up one solid 2011 commit this summer and get the ball rolling on recruiting some good talent.

Well for these guys Sid could use the excuse "I haven't had the talent" or "I haven't had a full roster of my recruits".

All excuses are out the window after this year, it's sink or swim.

But I think Sid will come through this year... He has done well to develop Tracy, and I thought Howell was very impressive as a Fresh. And now he has the gaurds that fit his style of basketball

Josh Davis played his ass off 100% of the time

sad to see him go, he was awesome to watch (except, sadly, when shooting free throws :beatup

Good luck to Josh Davis - hope he can land at a decent school, play well for them, and get his degree. Would have liked to have had him stay on the team, but can't fault him for leaving.

Wouldn't surprise me if the scholarship was given to Davis with the understanding that it was for one year or conditional until it is needed, similar to walk-ons earning scholarships as before. I half-expected Davis to give up his scholarship and become a walk-on, but maybe this year was an appetizer for what he can do as a college basketball player at a different level. Either way, best of luck to him and will miss having him in the program even if I didn't expect him to make a big contribution on the floor this year.

"Wolfpack up Two Scholarships

We can sit here and daydream of the lineup that Sidney Lowe can put on the floor next season. Blue-chipper C.J. Leslie, returning senior Tracy Smith, Ryan Harrow, Javier Gonzalez and Scott Wood.

That may be a dream lineup for fans of the game, but for Wolfpack reserves Josh Davis and Julius Mays, it may look more like a nightmare. Both have announced their intentions to seek more playing time elsewhere next season.

C.J. Leslie won't say whether he plans to be a one-and-done superstar for Lowe, or a long-term building block for his beloved home-state school, so the sudden availability of two more scholarships for this year or next is yet another boon for Sidney Lowe and the Wolfpack.

Lowe still has his eye on 6-foot-5 swingman Tashawn Mabry as a possible addition to his stellar 2010 class, so that courtship may heat up now. He could also look ahead to 2011 and try to cement a commitment from 6-foot-10 center John Cannon, who would be a nice replacement for Tracy Smith when the senior's college career ends.

Sidney Lowe is in an enviable position. He has concrete commitments from high-caliber athletes, and now some flexibility to acquire more. Every day brings the Wolfpack closer to the top of the preseason ACC rankings."

--ESPN Rumors

No clue who John Cannon is, but considering his other schools of interest according to ESPN are App State, WCU, Richmond, and some other school that I dont even recognize the logo (maybe MTSU?)...maybe we could do better

^that's what I'm thinking. I'm kinda wishing we still had Mays as a third-string veteran combo guard.

V edit:
Javi averaged 3.1 TOs a game, playing 25.5 mpg. Mays averaged 1.1 in in 18.5 mpg.
Javi had a 1.18 A/T ratio. Mays had a 1.43.

Mays was slow and couldn't create. But he held on to the ball pretty well. Very well for a 3rd string back-up.

im sorry, i just dont see how anybody can think that julius mays was anything but terrible for this team. when you just pick up ur dribble and call a time out almost every trip down the floor... ur t.o./assist ratio will look alright. but if you look at the.... on the floor point differential. (whatever that is called) im betting that javi's is wayyyy better than "the human emergency break"s.
