Javi's a fucking senior. He's not going anywhere. Good sentiments for a guy that's given his sweat and blood for the Red & White. He's helped us win a number of games, and will also probably be the starter to begin next year. Yeah let's just get rid of the only other PG on the roster. 5/20/2010 1:11:38 AM |

i'm wondering if Mabry left the state just to get away from all the criticism. i grew up in a small town and if i was ever accused of something like that, innocent or not, i can't imagine how hard it would have been.
I don't have any real criticism of Javi, at point during the season last year, he was Latin Fire personified. He's always cared even when he was surrounded by a bunch of losers.

Always felt like Javi has improved a great deal year to year as well... more just the typical improvement a player makes simply being one year older(he was pretty terrible when he first got on the court). If he makes similar improvements to his game going into this year he'll be an important piece and he also plays with a ton of emotion, something that the team has lacked from some players over the past few season.
Love how we get a few nice recruits and people want to get rid of half our roster as if we'll only get 5 star recruits for the rest of time. Depth is good, injuries happen, and roll players that work hard are always needed. 5/20/2010 9:51:15 AM |

Mays had his moments sometimes with the lane penetration and teardrop layups. It's unfortunate that he was sort of forced into ball-handling duties. His basketball IQ was noticeable - I could tell he was thinking on the court. I just think his talent and atleticism didn't match it. Overall he just wasn't an ACC caliber guard.
Javi has been the glue for this team the past few years. His service is definitely appreciated and he has my respect. He stepped in as a freshman PG and played with veterans Grant, Costner, Fells, and McCaully. The team today is completely different.
Ryan is going to push him and only make him better for his senior year. Hopefully Javi's experience and confidence combined with Ryan's quickness, handle, and athleticism will be a good balance. 5/20/2010 10:02:17 AM |

I said it before and I'll say it again. Bringing Mabry to this program would have brought some absolutely unnecessary baggage to the program. We are turning over a new leaf with the class we have and we certainly don't need Mabry's issues of hanging out with people involved in a murder. We don't need that kind of attention, regardless of whether he is innocent or not. 5/20/2010 11:44:12 AM |

Armour, I could not give two shits about your sentiments but for everyone else, if you dumb shits remember from I believe it was halfway through the season, there was a HUGE article in the News & Observer about Lowe being disappointed in Javi b/c it seemed as if he had given up in practice and was not putting in the effort as alot of the other guys.
So he's a god-damn upper classmen and to be called out in the fucking media by your coach, and even a couple of our players stated that they thought his head would be out of the game at a handful of games last season, and Im suppose to be all happy about this little shit who only gives his all to the squad when he see's fit, well you guys can all go fuck yourselves, b/c it's not happening!
I 'know' Javi is not leaving 'under-armor', I was saying my previous statement b/c I wished he was leaving!

He was also -1st on team in assists (he had 129, next closest player had 72) -1st on the team in steals -2nd in 3pt % (.37) -3rd in rebounding and scoring per game -the only backcourt player capable of creating any offense.

According to Telep, he wasn't going to change our ranking one way or another. He saw him as a middling high-major type of player, not an impact one. He also had that court issue which I'm sure is part of the reason we cooled on him among others.5/20/2010 3:08:23 PM |

Minnesota PF considering NC State
http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_15109495?nclick_check=1
Quote : | "University of Minnesota basketball player Trevor Mbakwe has received permission to explore transferring to another school, Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi said Tuesday.
Mbakwe, a 6-foot-8 junior forward and St. Paul native, was suspended for the 2009-10 season while waiting for his case on a felony assault charge to be resolved. The trial is scheduled for June 7. But Mbakwe said he was uncertain if and when his case would be resolved and was looking at other options to play next season, according to Maturi. " |
Quote : | "Mbakwe still could play for the Gophers. But he is strongly considering transferring to Memphis, and North Carolina State apparently also is interested, according to people with knowledge of the situation. Mbakwe would have to receive a transfer exception from the NCAA to play for another Division I school next season. " |

Update on Kevin Noreen (record setting big man scorer from Minnesota that got released from his letter at BC)
He would likely have to lose a year of eligibility if going to another ACC school, Carolina and NC State were interested, but it seems like a long shot now.
Forward Kevin Noreen Likely Prohibited From Playing with ACC Suitors
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/393273-forward-kevin-noreen-likely-prohibited-from-playing-with-acc-suitors
Quote : | "But there are rules roadblocks for ACC schools courting Noreen. ACC Associate Commissioner for Compliance Shane Lyons told the Winston Salem Journal that "even if you get a full release from the national letter-of-intent, you still can't go within the conference to another member institution (and receive financial aid), our rule indicates that if you leave, you lose one year of eligibility."" |

does anyone else think its strange that out of Mbakwe's huge list of interested school coming out of high school we were no where to be found, but all of a sudden we are one of 2-3 schools he mentions being interested in transferring to? You would think he would want to transfer to another school that was heavily recruiting him
oh well, just my two cents 5/21/2010 12:26:03 PM |

I believe that it is all situational. We have spots that he thinks that he can fit in and have some PT and exposure.
The felony assault charge, guilty or not is the deal breaker for me. I do not care, he is an athlete representing his university. He should act like one. However if I was a coach and had that attitude I would end up with a team like Butler....oh wait, they are good!
