What would you guys pay (per round) for 9mm, .45 ACP, or .223/5.56?
Like, if you had a few hundred rounds of each, and didn't need any, and just wanted to stock some away at absolutely non-inflated prices?
(cheap range ammo, I mean) 7/17/2013 11:35:15 PM |

.32 a round for 9mm, .40 a round for .223. No idea on .45
Anything cheaper is just added benefit.

I'm holding off on buying either until 5.56 is back to ~.30-.32/rd and 9mm is .20/rd. Prices have been dropping weekly on both, so I don't think it'll be too far before we're back to normal prices 7/18/2013 12:19:21 AM |

^^That seems a little high for 9mm. Not arguing with you...I just seem to remember paying $13 or so per 50-rd box of 9mm just a few months ago (.26/rd).
I just bought my first .223/5.56 about a month ago, but I don't think I've seen one brass-cased round go for .40 yet. I think the best I've actually seen available has been 45 cents/rd.
^ yeah, and that was gonna be my next question. Think we'll see prices come back down, or will this be the "new normal", and the improvements will be just in availability?
I missed the worst of the '08 shortage (I was in Iraq), and the only hard-to-find caliber I had at the time was .45 ACP. (.22 WMR and 7mm REM were never an issue). I don't recall how things played out that time, and I didn't stock up big time after that one because I figured it was a fluke.
...but I'm going to buy thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds as soon as it's available and at prices I don't think are likely to go much lower.

What else can you do? The paranoid idiots (and there are many) who set the hoarding cycle into motion are the problem, but there's nothing you can do about them. You can either reactively hoard, or be forced to fuck with ammo availability next time some left-wing politician needs to score a few political points with his base.
I'm not talking about buying until normalcy returns (at least mostly), anyway. 7/18/2013 11:36:59 AM |

I've had two classes as well, but I have cut back on the bi-weekly range trip.
I found ammo, so I'm doing ok, but I'm not where I want to be yet.
I have 1.5k of each caliber I shoot, but won't start really using it again till about 2k inventory 7/19/2013 12:09:38 AM |

Got to send my P232 back to Sig; the much dreaded take down lever breakage has reared its ugly head. I need a quick turnaround because I need to qualify with it the next couple of weeks.
I did get to put about 250 rounds through my Ruger LCR; I'm hurting now. 7/20/2013 12:58:07 PM |

I bought a bunch of CCI Blazer Brass 9mm 124gr FMJ from PSA on 11/12/2012 for $8.99 a box, free shipping. I'll probably hold off on buying anymore in any quantity until it is back to about that price - I don't shoot 9mm enough to need it

What's everyone opinion on the P938 as a carry gun? I shot one today and really enjoyed it but have heard horror stories of their reliability. Might look at one to replace the P232 after reading up on the issue I mentioned earlier. 7/20/2013 4:25:27 PM |

I have a 938, and I love how it shoots. I can repeatedly hit a 14x18" steel plate at 30 yards with it.
I have one of the ones that has issues though. It FTExtract about 5-10%. It only has 200 rounds through it. I have read 3-400 needed to iron out problems. I can also send it to sig and they will take care to it. 7/20/2013 6:45:12 PM |

Everyone who has one that works, has it work 100%. Everyone who has sent theirs in, has said it came back 100% . Shouldn't need to break in or send off a $700 gun to make it work.
I'll stick with mine because of how well it shoots, feels, and carries.

I'm already thinking about a Savage 12LRP in .260 or 6.5 Creed. I wanted a rifle like that (or F-class rig, etc) anyway...just had nowhere in FL to shoot something like that.
If I get into competing and want to do more than the basic rifle matches, all I need is a reason to pick up an XDm 5.25 Competition, or maybe a Glock 34. Hell, I might even sell my 1911 if I were to get one of those. 7/21/2013 1:30:12 AM |

I'm helping a family member of mine who works for a case company here in Raleigh. They are setting up a booth at the Dixie show showing off their Pelican rifle cases, other brands of similar cases, and Pelican Coolers. He wants to know if he needs to have inventory with pick and pluck foam, or would the customers be willing to place an order for a custom cut foam case (or possibly both).
Basically, would you want to buy a case right then and there or would you be willing to put an order in and get it shipped to you? I think he wants to know whether or not to bring inventory. 7/21/2013 6:29:43 PM |

folks use the "snake gun" as an excuse to buy another gun, which is fine, but it's not necessary. a rat shot shell tossed in a .45 ACP of your choice is pretty much perfect for snakes. not to mention that there are very few scenarios i can think of where i would come across a snake and i couldn't just walk away from it. this is coming from a dude who uses "shoot it!" as his go-to solution for almost all wildlife issues. 7/21/2013 8:11:15 PM |

there's nothing hot about the deck of a bush hog or the three-point hitch connection, which is usually where they climbed up onto as the bush hog as it was backed up to the edge of the pond.7/22/2013 10:54:38 PM |

I consolidated calibers 2 years ago. .38 and .357mag were harder to find and usually twice the money of 9mm. The down side is that the moon clips are difficult to find. It took 6 months to find them for the Speed Six. 7/23/2013 7:13:24 AM |
