^ Sure, but that's Google Voice functionality, not native Hangouts functionality.

It's hangouts I thought. Google Voice rolled into hangouts a long time ago. The bottom left pane in Gmail is technically hangouts chat and you're able to make calls and text with your GVoice number too. It's all just integrated into hangouts.

i really liked hello sms (loved the tabbed interface), but it appears that it's no longer being developed...finding it on google play is nearly impossible (it's here, btw: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hellotext.hello) and the last update was in september...their site is gone and twitter hasn't been used in over a year

i used gosms for a long time, but i got annoyed with their adding of and attempt to sell features...if hello gets too long in the tooth and really is abandoned - and google gets its shit together and i can go back to using a real texting app - i'd start with messenger

Was done with the G3. Picked up a Note 5 (Note 2 was my all time favorite phone). Had to of course pick up a Gear VR. It's soooo worth the $99. Waiting on the Steel Series Stratus XL (BT remote) to come back in stock to pick up a remote for it but the games with just the trackpack are awesome. The input lag was almost non existent compared to what I was expecting (never used an Oculus before).

Also Samsung Pay is sweet. Used it this morning on the coffee guys square reader. Blew his mind. Works on virtually any card reader except for ones that suck in the card (at least I don't think they'd work). Very impressive.

Overall I'm glad to be back to Samsung despite not being on 6.0 yet (hopefully soon).

Samsung pay is really cool. Every time I pay at a regular register (w/o NFC / mobile pay functionality) the cashier is like no that won't work he... then bam is works and it's great.

Anyone have any suggestions for this?

I stopped getting gmail push notifications. Gmail would only check for messages if i opened the app and manually refreshed. Thought it may have been my fault due to clearing the cache to a service i shouldn't have been fucking with so I factory reset the phone. Started getting gmail notifications again. Yay, all is right with the world. Just a few days out, however, and its stopped working without manual refreshes. I haven't fucked with any settings since the reset and haven't everything working, so what gives?

Nexus 6, marshmallow, project fi

neodata, those pics look pretty great.

Maybe you've already done this but try stopping/restarting and clearing the cache/data for Google Services and Gmail? Have you also checked to make sure you don't have peak push times turned on?

Thanks! Yeah I'm liking the camera on this thing:

Also has a manual exposure. 10 seconds in a mostly pitch black room:

Something easy to try is removing that Google account from the phone then re-adding it. If it's the only Google account I don't know if it will let you (I've got multiple accounts on my phone)

While I'm at it, does anyone have suggestions for ways to back up texts in the stock messenger? I miss having voice archive every text and I refuse to use hangouts.

Ah I don't have 6.0 so I haven't messed with Doze but from what I understand it should allow all apps that use the push notification system to get stuff through. So if it's Doze that's causing it then yes that might be a bug.

Hangouts 7 coming: http://lifehacker.com/hangouts-7-0-adds-quick-reply-and-home-screen-shortcuts-1755397425

For $300 I don't know if you could get better than a 5x. Solid phone.

Wonder when Hangouts is ditching SMS. I still use it for that.

I was deciding between the Nexus 5x, 6p and Note 5. Ended up going with the Note 5 because of Samsung Pay, wireless charging, pen, and Samsung VR (which is really cool for $99). Downside is I have to wait around for Marshmallow until Samsung and AT&T get their shit together. It's certainly a big phone though.

--Also in before someone calls me out on getting a phone without an interchangeable battery or micro SD slot. I lost that battle and succumbed to just spending a little more on the phone for the 64GB version. The fast charging capabilities have helped a lot with not being able to swap out batteries.

the nexus 5x always seemed like a ripoff to me since it still has a 1080p screen and 2gb of ram. not that those specs suck, but what you get per dollar, you're still way better off with an lg g3. hell, the specs are in line with the lg g2 and thats a 3 year old phone.

^ while i'm with you in spirit (sending my incoming 5x back), the 5x has a better proc and GPU than the G3, and also Android 6.0 (yeah i'm sure you can rom, but I don't rom), and a much better proc and GPU than the G2.

it might be better in gaming, but i do very little of that on my phone outside hearthstone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVZeVMj7Yu8 makes the performance difference look <1%. even slow ass verizon has a 6.0 OTA rom without hackery. i definitely can understand valuing a mostly aosp experience, that's why I put a rom on my g3

Quote :

No that's me remember! 2GB of ram is a little concerning but it's only a 1080p screen so I doubt it'll be a huge deal. My Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4" tablet has a 2560 by 1440 screen with only 2GB of ram and it's a little under powered and quite frequently slows down if there's too much running but that's probably due to the ~78% more pixels (2560x1440 compared to 1080p).

Just opened up the 5x...nice phone. Seems better built than the 5, definitely feels thinner, a little taller. The fingerprint unlock works beautifully. I'm 90% sure I'm keeping the Moto X, but before I opened the box I was 100% sure on the Moto

i ordered the blu vivo xl last week when it was on sale for $99 and it came today...not planning on using it as my DD, but it's a lot of phone for that price

blu apparently rebrands chinese phones to sell in the US...this one is the Gionee Elife S Plus

5.5" 720p super AMOLED screen
1.3GHz MediaTek 6753 octa-core CPU (similar performance as qualcomm snapdragon 615)
Mali-T720 GPU
13MP f/2.0 rear camera with phase-detection AF
16GB ROM
2GB RAM
microSD slot
dual SIM
removable battery
USB-C connector / cable
screen protector included
clear TPU case included
9V/2A charger (it uses mediatek's version of QC)

android is very AOSP-esque, with little bloat

only weirdness is the back button being on the right instead of left (which actually makes sense from the daily use perspective, it's just different than i'm used to) and the status bar pull-down is actually a pull-up from the bottom

it's nowhere near flagship, but it's a solid mid-range device at entry price

I think I could get used to the right-side back button a lot quicker than the swipe-up notifications

Samsung has the right-side back button anyway, even though my devices have mostly had left-side back buttons.

I just realized today (technically yesterday) that you could make/move app groups to the bottom app bar and not just single apps like camera, phone, contacts, etc.
