does anyone have a Jawbone Jambox or any other semi-portable sound system/docking station?
the Jambox is wireless, so no docking/charging option, but i like the idea of keeping my phone near me while playing music . the $199 price tag is a little too extreme though. 3/5/2012 8:52:42 AM |

Is there any possibility of iphones ever getting SWYPE (or their equivalent)?? Its pretty much the only thing holding me back from getting one. That, and I do love the Samsung's large screen and quality...but I would probably give it up for the iphone if not for the swype. 3/14/2012 12:11:05 PM |

There's a version in iPhone if it's jailbroken. Haven't tried it yet though. 3/14/2012 1:06:26 PM |

Definitely a decent learning curve. But I can write faster than with a regular computer keyboard now. I really dislike the regular touchscreen keyboard and SWYPE more than makes up for it. I'm guessing its under patent for Android??3/14/2012 1:21:27 PM |

^^ It's pretty friggin close. You'd be surprised. Only thing will slow it down is if I get sloppy. Taking a little longer to go back and make corrections.
But it is crazy fast. Much faster than typing on a blackberry and ridiculously faster than typing on a regular touchscreen keyboard. I text and email with work all day long...the iphone would slow me down, but mostly it would annoy because I'd be going from something much faster to something much slower. Don't know if I can make that leap.

As stated above, there is a version of swype for iPhone, but it SUCKS. I'll go ahead and give the real version the benefit of the doubt as I've never actually used it, but the version they ported to iPhone is unusable.

So you must be REALLY slow at typing on a keyboard.
After some short googling:
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2010/03/23/swype-sets-touchscreen-typing-record-already-set-to-be-beaten/
Quote : | "Page blazed through 160 characters 35.54 seconds, crushing the previous record of 40.91 seconds. That’s roughly 270 characters per minute or 54 words per minute. I would be extremely impressed, except I had already seen someone else shred that with 81 wpm on his iPhone." |
Official Guinness book of world records Swype record: 54 wpm.
Unofficial iPhone record (video): 81-83 wpm.
Sure that article is old. But still. You get the idea.
54 is really slow. 81 is even slow for a typist. I type anywhere from 90-120 wpm on a keyboard.3/14/2012 6:16:09 PM |

Shit, I type slow as balls and still get out ~30 wpm on my iPhone with the stock keyboard. Maybe the iPhone version of swype isn't so different than the Android version afterall.] 3/14/2012 6:32:58 PM |

If all you care about is speed and precision, I absolutely refuse to believe that sliding one finger on a screen can even come anywhere close to being as good as using two fingers and hovering over the keyboard. There's just no way. I always thought the appeal of swype was just convenience. 3/14/2012 6:37:17 PM |

6 months or so of swype on my old DX. Right around a year on my iphone now. No comparison. I was quick with swype but the iphone's "intelligence" makes all the difference. I can text on my iphone just looking at the screen every 3-4 words or so and everything is correct 95% of the time. Before I learned to just type & trust the iphone dictionary, I was a bit slower. Now it's much faster for me. Maybe I wasn't the best swype user or something but...3/14/2012 8:48:18 PM |

Swype on Android is worlds better than the default android keyboard, but it's got nothing on the iPhone. Maybe if I mucked with the accuracy vs speed settings, but it has a hard enough time being accurate now, I can't imagine upping the speed would improve anything.3/14/2012 9:11:57 PM |

So I tried to update my work iphone to 5.X, and I ended up with an error message, and the phone was stuck in recovery mode after that. Now the damn thing won't charge! I've tried a couple hard resets but the damn thing doesn't have any power so I'm not even sure the hard reset is working.

its a simple fix.
you need to go in and delete the update from your PC so itunes has to download a new one. its just a corrupt download.
reinstall and re-update and it works fine.

i can't buy/download any music via itunes on my phone anymore. i click the song, type in my password, & the little red 1 pops up on downloads. i open the list of things downloading & the song shows up, but it just says "Waiting..." under the name. it will do this for some indeterminate amount of time then a message pops up saying "Unable to Purchase. somethingsomething try again later."
i've followed the instructions found here http://www.blog.gleff.com/2012/03/app-store-unable-to-purchase-fix/ about forcing it to rebuild the database file. even though that is for the app store, i thought it would help since it's the same type of problem. it didn't fix it though. i've been googling for forever & can't find a solution. any ideas?
*purchasing/downloading worked fine before 5.1. i have no idea if the update is the cause of this, but this is the first time i've bought something since updating.

not a simple fix for her. the computer she uses with itunes crashed a couple of days before her phone bricked.

if you plug the phone into any other computer (which she did try doing with my dad's laptop), it asks to overwrite all of what's on the phone. i wasn't with her when she did all this, but that's what she said happened. anyway, like i said earlier, she took the phone to the apple store a couple of weeks ago, they couldn't do anything with it, & they gave her another one.
