that about sums it up.
how the hell anyone can watch one of his clusterfuck teams and see any semblance of hope is beyond me.
new cast of characters, same horrendous mistakes, same scoring droughts, same horrible fundamentals exhibited, same "wtf" lineup decisions.
when he doesn't make the tournament, again, we'll finally be rid of Sidney Lowe and his comedy of errors.1/12/2011 5:26:10 AM |

This....Lowe has got to go. I think the thing that pisses me off more than anything is simply our lack of effort, especially on defense and attacking the boards. The guys look like they could care less about defense, I'm not sure if there is a team more lazy on defense than us. Maybe Lowe will realize this isn't the NBA and defense is a requirement in college basketball.1/12/2011 7:00:38 AM |

Well that was disappointing. Its frustrating because we finally have a very talented team that is balanced with good guards and big men, a couple shooters, and decent depth. In my opinion our only con is experience, but after seeing what underclassmen have been doing in the NCAA for the past 10+ years, I think its definitely something we should be able to overcome. And you see glimpses or games (Wake) where you can see what kind of team we can be...but we definitely don't seem to be able to pull that off consistently right now.
I've never been that high on Lowe's coaching abilities and my only hope for the program for him at the helm would be that he would continue to improve into a good coach. Games like the Wake game give me hope (although they're garbage), but games like last night reaffirm my doubts. Not playing CJW more and taking Harrow out were head-scratchers. Would we have won the game had those things been done?? Probably not...but it sure as hell didn't help.
That was definitely a winnable game. We had a three-point lead and huge momentum with 6 minutes left and went completely cold after that. Frustrating. 1/12/2011 8:24:52 AM |

It's not just one loss. You see something in this team and Coach Lowe and that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But you of all people, being one of Sendek's biggest detractors, really can't see why people are upset? We are seeing almost all of the same fatal flaws that his past teams have had in this team. Yes, we are inexperienced. I get that. But we have a top class and in this era of college basketball well coached teams have overcome experience and won games like this.
And for those of you who were all gung-ho about the possibility of having Brown and Harrow together for four years instead of getting 'Zo in here immediately to get experience -- well there you go. We would be an exponentially better team if Lorenzo Brown was at State last year and went through the ACC once already. 1/12/2011 8:46:54 AM |

On the flip side we'll be better their senior year this way.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact year but if you are asking me do I think Sid can compete for national titles then the answer is yes.
He's proven he can bring in big name recruits and he was in the running for uber-recruits John Wall, Derrick Favors, and DeMarcus Cousins.
He's also proven he can beat the best teams in the nation (Duke and UNC) with far inferior rosters.
So, I'm not sure what you're going for here but yes I think Sid gives us a chance to win it all one day. 1/12/2011 9:04:40 AM |

Being in the top 5-7 doesn't necessarily mean "in the running." I don't remember feeling like we had a decent shot at any of those guys.

Huh? He's 3-12 against them. That's pretty close to the same winning % as Herb had. Since his first year he hasn't beaten UNC and has beaten Duke once.
Looking at this team and roster and saying we can compete for national titles within 2-3 years is absurd...

I wish we could get Coach K or Calipari to come in and coach our team for like two weeks. Like a college basketball boot camp with Sidney on the side taking notes. We would probably be a 1 or 2 loss team at this point if we were coached by one of those guys 1/12/2011 9:32:49 AM |

Am I getting punk'd here or something? The man can't even dredge us from the ACC cellar.
For us to even win a single ACC game on the road the stars have to align twice in the same night, hell has got to freeze over, Scott Wood has to hit 80% of his 3's, and the rest of team has to be in a state of Nirvana. Edit: OH yeah, and the other team has to play like COMPLETE ass.

The teams that do this have solid rosters behind them. We're still a star PG and a lot of experience from having that. I think they said on ESPN last night that eight of our scholly players are underclassmen. That's fuckin young.
Lowe has finally gotten some top tier talent in here (more than Sendek did for us, and I was always ok with him - minus his shitty shitty offensive scheme). He's got more top tier talent coming in over the next couple of years. Our roster is very near having all the pieces.
When the alternative is sacking Lowe, losing the recruits, begging anyone who will take the job to come be the next coach (with hearty helpings of getting laughed at by prospects), and going back to square one.... I believe we should stick with Lowe.1/12/2011 12:02:46 PM |

I'm pretty sure most of the naysayers would start bitching about our new coach soon after he took the reigns. Or they'd be repeating the same excuses the Lowe-defenders* are offering now.

That isn't entirely accurate. This class is about equivalent in rankings to the Hodge class. People forget that Levi Watkins would have been a VERY, VERY good college player except for that awful ACL injury that he never completely got over. The Costner class was also very highly recruited, but not like this one.

Not really. Tyler Harris is a system guy, not an impact player. Tyler Lewis is a decent PG recruit but nothing amazing. Uchebo is barely a Top 75 guy, but has a nice ceiling.

i'm a big lowe defender and javi apologist, but last night was bad and i'm not jumping to conclusions. Actually it was going great but Javi consistently had defensive lapses. The shot clock violation was just inexcusable though, his head was NOT in the game.

Uchebo is currently ranked 8 at his position
Lewis is ranked 12 at PG.... Just like Harrow, and look how much better he is than what we have right now.
Harris is 25 at PF, which is not as high but you can't hit gold with everyone. Howell and Painter were 16 and 20 at their positions, and they can produce when they aren't being forced to play the 5 spot.
We've got more people coming in, and we're playing mostly good basketball. No one can come into this program and win us a national championship in half a decade. we've got too much turn around that needs to be made. Baby steps, I believe we'll get there with Lowe.1/12/2011 2:50:48 PM |

You are only looking at the scoreboard. not scoring doesn't necessarily mean they were playing like shit. They got a lot of good looks in the first half, even early on, and just didn't finish the shots. It was a focus issue, not an effort issue.
We could have won a game against a team everyone expects to be number 2 in the ACC on the road, had (admittedly) Lowe not tried to save Harrow by resting him in the last couple of minutes. Mistakes get made, I can bet Javi doesn't finish the next game, Lowe will leave him in and/or change up the sub rotations to account for him. Our defense broke down some, but BC had some of the best offensive movement I've seen us play against this year. We know Leslie has a habit of leaving his guys to run out on the perimeter for open shots, it's something he has to learn. Also, we missed some rebounds, and some just went over us, but overall we played pretty decent. That Reggie guy is the sickness, though. I don't know if there is a guy who can hang with him one on one, but I digress... 1/12/2011 3:14:04 PM |
