you'll want to kill yourself on a 250
offer homeboy like 1200 for the gs500
if he doesn't bite, oh well - maybe you can get him to do 1500
if he still doesn't bite, you'll find another one

Alright, thanks. I emailed the guy a little while ago, so I'll see if it's still up for sale before I do any questioning. Thanks for the advice too, that's what I need as much as a bike itself. So that gs500 would be a good bike for me to start out with (and learn to ride on)? Any notorious problems with them?
Along those lines, I need to learn to ride a bike. I've never driven one, but I've driven a manual ATV and my car is a stick, so that concept isn't new to me...just need to get a feel for what I'm doing specifically so I can test drive something without looking like an idiot. If any of you have a beater and some time that you wouldn't mind learning me on, I'll pay you or trade something, or at least I'll flatter you and boost your ego 4/6/2006 12:17:51 PM |

I don't know man, I'm a broke sumbitch and scraping up the cash for a bike is going to be tough, but name your price and I'll see if I can do it
also, a guy responded to me in my classifieds "WTB: motorcycle" thread with this: Quote : | "A 2000' Suzuki Katana 600 in great condition minus very very light cosmetic damage on the fairings from a standstill drop. The bike is perfect to learn how to ride on because its not scary fast or overly sensitive. The bike is light and looks great!" | I read up on the Katana 600 a little and it seems like it would be a good bike for me to start out with, but I was interested in some of your opinions. Also, I have no idea if he'd be willing to sell me this bike for what I can afford...

well if it's the right bike and i can take out a loan, then i could go a little higher. i'm mainly interested in the 1500 or less range, but if i find something that is PERFECT for me that's a bit more, i'll see what i can do as far as financing it on my end 4/6/2006 2:34:26 PM |

paerabol All American 17118 Posts user info edit post |
you're right, i don't want to that's why i'm pretty firm on my 1500 limit, just saying that other possibilities arent COMPLETELY out of the question. and "loan" might mean hitting up my old man for some temporary cash, though i'd rather remove my left nut with a rusty steel cable
do you know of any good entry-level bikes in that range i could be looking for? any that i should particularly avoid? and i'm still looking for someone to teach me to ride (where of course some sort of compensation will be offered)

i'm telling you
the gs500 is perfect
thats why i bought another one
its real easy in the low rpm's, so you won't scare yoursefl off the bike at the beginning
but (for me at least) has enough power at the top end that you can still have fun
i mean, it won't be the bike i stick with forever obviously
but for now, shits perfect 4/6/2006 4:01:47 PM |

yeah i can do 20/hr, which is more than enough for you to learn all the basics.
also you will need to cover any parts (but not the labor) should you fuck the bike up. the way my bike is set up, you would have to really try hard to fuck anything up, but i just want to throw it out there just in case you hit a concrete wall doing 60 or something.

i ran into a guy that's selling a '94 (i think, may be '95) Ninja 250 for about 1100...Keeping in mind I'm looking for a beginner bike, what do you all think of that? I haven't seen it and didn't get a chance to talk to the guy in detail about the bike's condition, but he was driving a newer bike so I'm assuming he's just getting rid of his learner. It would definitely be a good bike to learn on, but I'd like to be able to take in on the highway or anywhere else I'd take my car. I'm ~215lbs, so is a 250 going to be able to keep up? 4/11/2006 8:40:12 PM |
