I hate the way my workouts go when I'm getting over a head cold. I start out with my normal weights and intensity, but after about 4 or 5 work sets I'm exhausted and having trouble breathing. I hope I have this completely out of my system by Wednesday so that my leg routine doesn't kill me.

I finally broke down and bought another pair of wrestling shoes to do squats and deadlifts in. considering my last pair was coming up on 12 years old, I'd say it was about time for some new ones.

I could definitely tell a difference yesterday in wearing them; hopefully I'll have them broke in and fully adjusted by the end of the month.

Chuck Taylors are the only shoe you will ever need

the sole design of the Nike Free looks like that shoe would disentegrate as soon as you started deadlifting in it. the sole would crumple forward and kill your stability.

I like wrestling shoes for the ankle support, and the lack of a heel to compress on the floor makes your numbers go up. chuck taylors would probably do pretty well also, since they're so solid. I'd replace the laces in them with boot laces though.

they have asics and adidas wrestling shoes at Dick's sporting goods right now for $40-$50. the $40 black asics have a sole design that looks perfect for deadlifts, and the material looks durable enough for lifting in. I got these Adidas instead because the molded to my foot better, and because I miss Chuck Amato.

what a shitty workout. for some reason I keep sliding off the bench to my left side, which makes me think one side of my body is stronger than the other.

I think the owners must armor-all their equipment sometimes, because I slide all over the place whenever I use an adjustable bench seat

I've started getting back on a powerlifting workout and it's really sad. I'm doing so little weight it's almost embarassing. I'm working reps of squat and deadlift with approx. 200 and powercleaning reps of 165. I used to kill those numbers back in high school. I guess that's what I get for spending all my time on arms and abs for the last 5 years. Fortunately my form is still pretty decent and I'll be able to get those numbers up pretty quickly, but still I'm glad the gym was relatively empty tonight.

no, I was doing flat bench presses when I found myself sliding off. I'm wondering if it might have something to do with one leg being shorter than the other, since I drive the bar with my legs even when doing rep work. I know that my left leg is 3/8" shorter than the other. I might try wrapping my legs under the bench and seeing if I still have a problem.

Too inconsistent w/ when he can go. Also, he doesn't squat, which pisses the hell out of me, but oh well.

I'm lifting at Carmichael since BF/SoFit/Peak closed. I might look into powerhouse next week. I need to figure when my schedule will allow me to lift next year. Optimal would be lift like 6:30-7am and then drag the sled at night, but who knows how long that will last.

^^Thats what it feels like.

It feels more sore than sharp. But I'm usually not this sore from a workout two days ago. But I did kill my back doing Rack Pulls, GM's then Back Ext's.

If its still sore tomorrow I'm gonna skip my workout, maybe do some light sled work.

if you're not sore a couple days after doing good mornings, then you're probably not using enough weight.

How was your form? You probably just pushed yourself a little bit more than normal.

I think I might start doing good mornings again, since I've run out of good hamstring exercises. I always felt them more in my hams than I do in my back. plus I love having people coming over and telling me that my squat form is all wrong.

^^My form wasn't a problem, I just think combined w/ Rack pulls it was a lot. Usually on ME days where I do a Pull, I do a lunge or step up so I don't do two heavy post. chain exercises.

^haha, someone did that to me a Beyond, I just told them thanks.

Have you tried Pull Through? I get a good hammy stretch.

Most of the time it is the smith machine warriors. How can you give form advise, when you use the smith machine???

I tried using a smith machine today to do squats, since I'd never done one before and wasn't really sure what to expect.

Fuck if I could figure out how the hell to work the machine though

form advice is always the best. at least once during every leg workout last month I had someone come over to me after I was squatting and either tell me that I shouldn't squat so low or that I must be hurting my back. they always follow that up with questioning why I don't invest money in a belt, at which point I explain to them that I only use a belt to increase my 1 rep max, not as a security blanket.

:Shudders:

The idea of doing any squats in the smith machine makes my back hurt. Restriced motion/arc, not working synergists, the sound it makes, shearing forces......yay

Seeing people doing smith machine shrugs gives me a giggle.

I recently had someone tell me i was going to hurt myself squatting barefooted--that I was going to slip.

you want massive traps? then do cleans, high pulls, and deadlifts. why bother with shrugs when they only work a small portion of the entire trap muscle.

I didn't say they were better for building bigger traps, but they would work to break a sticking point.
