^It would be really awesome if they could build a versioning system into Office ... It works for programming, it works for wikis, and it even works for Google Docs and it actually auto-saves it as changes are being made. 11/17/2009 10:28:45 AM |

Someone did the old ctrl+alt+(arrowkey) to all the computers in our conference rooms and no one in IT knew how to fix it. They were replacing monitors and trying to sit them upside down until I got to work and told them how to fix it. I was half tempted to let them just hold the monitor upside through their entire meeting.... 11/17/2009 10:46:12 AM |

have an odd problem...
I had my laptop connected to a monitor to use dual monitors and had a program open on the monitor. I then disconnected my laptop, packed it up, and drove to see my family. Hours later, turned on laptop and now when I load that program it is "on" the monitor... it shows up as being open, and when I hover over it on the taskbar is shows the preview and everything but there is no way to move it to my laptop screen. I refreshed the desktop, I made sure it wasnt set to dual monitors still... any suggestions? 11/22/2009 3:39:03 PM |

i think there's a way to make windows automatically re-cascade/tile the open windows across your desktop. try that 11/22/2009 3:49:48 PM |

Alt-tab to bring the correct window into the foreground. Alt-space to open the upper left window menu. "m" to select move. Use arrow keys to move window where you want it.
I have this problem alot with open source software like gimp or gramps. They'll open windows in the darnedest places for some reason on Windows boxes 11/22/2009 4:09:05 PM |

^^or just hold down shift when you right click on the program on the taskbar. click move, then hit an arrow key and your mouse will then drag the mouse around 11/22/2009 6:47:17 PM |

JayBee, I do the same thing w/ win7.
Right-click on the desktop and go to "Screen Resolution" Go to the "Multiple displays" dropbox and change it to say: "Show desktop only on 1" Hit Apply and OK again when it asks for confirmation.
This is how I extend mine and retract when I'm leaving the house or w/e
-Doing that should keep stuff from going to the extended screen after you've disconnected.

but if you're sure the window is in focus and it's win7 you can do shift + window key + left or right arrow to throw it on whichever display you want. 11/22/2009 7:33:51 PM |

Since it very well may end up here anyways I figure this is the apt place to prompt the question. I am on the precipice of finally purchasing a PS3. I got a great deal on a 24" HMDI monitor that will eventually go towards my new computer build but in the interim is it feasible to hook up my PS3 to this monitor? 12/3/2009 9:10:26 AM |

I was reading a review for the Spyder monitor calibration system on Ken Rockwell's (digital photography guy) website and it had a link to "Why Pros use Mac". I wanted to punch this guy after the second and third paragraph:
Quote : | "Your office and big business use Windows because many IT departments who choose the computers protect their jobs by selecting Windows precisely because Windows requires so much upkeep. This keeps them employed.
I was a senior manager at a multi-billion dollar corporation for many years and had to deal with Windows. When I'd ask our tech support people why they wasted our time with Windows systems, they'd freely admit that most of them would no longer have jobs if they upgraded to Mac. " |
He continues to ramble on for pages about how Mac is better, Mac is pro, real guys wouldn't be caught dead using a PC, etc. etc. But apparently it really boils down to us lowly tech IT peons buy Windows PCs to keep ourselves employed. What a fucking douchebag.1/11/2010 9:56:18 PM |

So I got my grandmother a track ball for Christmas. She has the shakes, and I thought it might be easier for her to use than a mouse.
She knows nothing about computers except how to turn it on and use it. She is 87 so I asked my uncle to hook it up for her.
By hookup, I basically meant for him to just plug it in.
Well I was talking to my uncle today and he said he wasn't able to hook it up because when he put in the CD to install the drivers, which is basically unnecessary, her virus protection gave him the .exe warning saying that it could be harmful to the computer so he didn't do it.
I told him that was just a basic precaution and it would be fine to just plug it in and it would work without all that and he said he didn't want to "risk it"
This man is a Dr and doesn't even know how to install a fucking trackball or understand that its not going to harm the computer in doing so just because the virus protection gave him a standard warning. 1/12/2010 12:21:41 AM |

You were reading Ken Rockwell. He spouts shit just to hear his words and drive people to his site for adviews. He doesn't know jack about photography and has for years insisted on only shooting in jpg mode and using auto/program modes. He "reviews" shit without touching it. Pros laugh at him, idiots worship him. 1/12/2010 9:06:06 AM |
