^^it's really a pointless argument, because Evans consistently turned down opportunities to display strength and accuracy by not throwing the damn ball

[Edited on September 1, 2007 at 10:45 PM. Reason : and no, Evans doesn't have the stronger arm]

Beck made plays when it counted, Evans didn't. End of story. I will bet you $100 right now that Evans doesn't see another start and will be damn lucky to get any mop-up duties if/when needed.

i wasn't talking so much about accuracy . . . more the strength

it seems to me like that concussion last year really got to evans. before then he was taking more throws with pressure and after then he looks like a dear in the headlights when anyone is near him.

The good thing about beck is that he is so fucking fat, they won't even think about bootlegging him

As others have said, at least Beck TOOK shots down the field. There's a reason the running game opened up in the second half -- the UCF safeties had to honor the deep ball. With Evans, they were playing 6-8 yards from the LOS.

Beck is far from perfect, but DAMN it's good to see a QB stand up strong in the pocket and find the open man while under pressure. Sharp contrast to the Evans "duck and roll" technique (not to mention the Stone tuck-and-run philosophy).

And your either blind or retarded if you think Evan's arm is stronger than Beck's. Nothing against Evans, but Beck has one of the stronger arms I've seen on the college level.

yeah that new guy with the loudspeakers is just as bad

One thing I liked was TOB made the entire team stay on the field and listen to the band play the Alma Mater after the game ended. I've got a lot of respect for him for even acknowledging what we do, which is more than I can say for the chest

I also liked how we actually made adjustments that worked between halves instead of running the same old bullshit that never worked in the first place like most of last year. I still have some hope for this season after seeing how TOB and his staff changed things up leading to a 20 pt half.

But that was some nc state shit right there.

Our O-line and D-line is what lost us this game in the 1st half. No protection for Evans and blocking for a running game. Also, they ran ALL over us in the 1st half. Our O-line and D-line coaches better get this shit fixed asap. Overall, despite the loss, we showed what we are capable of. It was fun seeing CF alive and excited.

Biggest Positive: NC State fans

gg Beck

Im glad we have a quarterback now.... no question about his mental toughness in the pocket tonight...

he just has a cannon and overthrows the recievers (Evans always underthrew)

I was actually pretty damn impressed with the game.

The adjustments made at halftime were quite simply stunning.

0 points allowed in the second half, the defense showed up BIG TIME after halftime, bunkered down and showed how a 1A defense should operate.

Beck at quarterback absolutely changed the look of our offense. We can run respectably and still have the deep threat with a good head on the QB. Yea we lost, but lets be honest, this is going to be a 7-5 season at BEST. I'm all about watching us build this year and see the changes of TOB start to really take hold with the players.

It was nice to see at least *most* of the student section understand being quiet on offense. The hand sign was a nice touch, too. Most of the people who were still being loud on offense caught on when they saw the hand wolf signs later in the game.

Also did you notive how many stupid penalties we had? Not many. And no meathead facemask/unsportsmanlike calls. A couple of holding, a couple of false starts and a couple of substitution infractions.

I'm fine with the offense penalities, it's a new, young line and they are learning the ropes. Just a joy not to see 100+ penalty yards, for the first time in years it seems.

wasn't really quite when they should have been. Band needs to figure out that just because we're in the huddle doesn't mean everyone should be noisy and then quite when we get up to the line.

^the difference is that Beck was hitting receivers over the middle tonite where as the only throws evans was completing last year were the ones where his receivers were just out jumping the DB's and taking it away from them.

Overall the fans cheered smart tonight.

The TD to start the game for UCF sucked out all of our emotion, but we were extra loud on all 3rd downs, and when inspired the the 2nd half, we never let up.

Only point of improvement is to be a little bit more quiet while we are on offense. I know the comeback attempt was crazy, but we were WAYYYY too loud while we were in the huddles.

The band and the cheer leaders kept getting the students all loud too often while we were in the huddles. I'm not hating on the band, b/c you guys are awesome. Just saying...

Also, we had 10 penalties for 67 yards... i will be expecting a TOB coached team to fix this.

i liked the way the band went out on the field tonight. That was fun.

Overall, the student section cheered smarter tonight.

The new mic man sucks as much as the old. As i've said before, its not the guy, its the position. Please, if anyone with any power reads this, GET RID OF THE MIC MAN!!! HES USELESS, WE NEVER DO ANY OF HIS CHEERS!!!

beck also overthrew or inaccurately threw at least 5 passes to wide open receiver 15+ yards down the field

but i'd rather us air out the ball than dump it 2 yards

the band can be sort of retarded at times

we had an important goal line stand near the end of the first half and they started trying to make a human pyramid right in the middle of it, then they started letting another guy crowd surf on some guys

poor cheerleader that got dropped...her partner should have done more to break her fall

The problem with Evans in this game in particular is that the coaches kept bootlegging him, so standing tall in the pocket wasn't even an option.

(Not that I really think he would have, but it'd have been nice if he ever got to stay in the pocket)

Meanwhile, it's really nice that we were able to pull a moral victory our of this, but our DBs got burned every single time down the field and the inaccuracy of their QB was our only saving grace. If we have any chance against Boston College, it's going to have to be a shootout.

Also, Bowens is awesome.

He did get a personal foul... and as soon as the ref announced it his replacement came running in and Ojo ran off the field to a smattering of clapping (from opposite the student section) for TOB for taking him out. I almost expected to see him running bleachers during halftime!

Everyone is talking so great about the fans, and while overall we did cheer smart, as an alum that has to pay $texas to get to the games now, I was pissed to see that at 6:30 our student sections were still not full. I was in the north endzone and the entire student area in front of me was almost empty, not to mention the upper deck.

If I can drink for 4.5 hours and make it there on time, so can you guys.

^why? When you have to have your qb to make a block in the play....you've called the wrong play.

Coaching lost this game. Its that simple.

And like another poster said, the long ball HELPED this team. It loosens coverage and opens up underneath. The fact that we had someone willing to air one out...several times.. was refreshing.

You can go in any entrance without having to do a bunch of shit, students have to get hands/tickets stamped (with a section) and have 2 small entrances were the line is around 45 minutes or more to get in.

the students filed into sections 7 and 8 and only filled in the other sections when they closed 7 and 8

there's nothing wrong with the other sections and there's no excuse for them to not even have one person in them midway through the 1st quarter

all around GA is a bad idea for student tickets

Quote :

A good QB makes that block

Philip Rivers makes that block

Tony Romo makes that block

Brett Favre makes that block

Very true about our DB's getting roasted in the second half (THANK GOD UCF'S QUARTERBACK SUCKED ASS). Ryan will eat us alive next week if the coverage doesn't tighten up. Having said that, I don't think BC will be able to run the ball as easy as UCF did, so hopefully we can drop our safeties deep. If not, look the fuck out.

And Jimmy Sutton showed why he's now number three on the depth chart. The guy has talent, he just rarely uses it.

sure if you get to the gate right at kickoff the line might be a little longer, but i doubt 45 minutes. on the few occasions i have encountered a line, it has never taken me more than about 15 minutes to get in, normally you can just walk right in. it's very simple . . . don't wait until the last minute.

That PF wasn't so bad in my opinion. He was blocking the guy pretty hard and it looked to me he might not have heard the whistle or something. I saw it happened and said to my buddies "He better be careful with...ahhh hell, he got a flag for that". It wasn't a terrible just blatantly shoving a guy well after a play or whatever type of PF. It was questionable in my opinion.

^um, having been to almost every home game for the last 8 years, the line is stupid as fuck now.

Two gates for 1/2 the attendees, with much tighter security than in years past, + hand stamps + scanners. We got to the gates 10 minutes before kickoff and it took 20-30 minutes to get through the gates.

Then another 10 minutes to get a seat, having to go from section to section being told they were full and to try the next one. Hand stamps were worthless.

But its free, so I really dont give a damn

Bullshit.

If the QB has a chance to block, he'd better do it instead of hanging his running back out to dry. That's not good teamwork.
