So it's official. We got paid. Our hearing was supposed to be tomorrow, but our lawyer struck a deal. We had to take a penalty on our benefits, but we are getting paid! Most importantly, my girl can start to receive weekly benefits until she finds a job.

^^ neither of us have collected any unemployment yet. Now we will each receive a check minus whatever penalty the ESC decides to place on it. And my girl, who is still unemployed, can begin getting weekly benefits now.

In my case, I probably won't get much. Because if they penalize us 9 weeks which is the standard, That will eat up pretty much my whole unemployment.

My girl, on the other hand, has been unemployed for 19 weeks. So if they penalize her the 9, she will still be due 10 weeks. Well 9 weeks actually, because the first week doesn't count. At $525 per week, you do the math.

Well I woke up to a pleasant surprise this morning. My checking account had a $1500 deposit from the ESC in it. Turns out the appeals referee decided to go light on the penalty.

My GF had over $4k deposited in hers by the ESC.

The government doesn't just GIVE you free money because you don't have a job, you slobbering fucking retard.

It's not YOUR tax money. Companies and Businesses pay the UI taxes to balance out the fact they they can lay you off at any time.

Unemployment isn't the same as welfare. It's not just free money - you have to be laid off through no fault of your own.

That's why djeternal and his girl had to fight tooth and nail to get the money - they had to prove that they were unjustly laid off.
