I replaced 2 cold start sensors last night. Didn't fix my cold running issue. Although it seems to idle better. Looking at coils and plugs tonight. If that doesn't fix it Im sending my ecu off to be reflashed and possibly replacing my maf sensor. One step at a time. Car doesn't leak a drop anymore. It's coming along I'm happy with it

Yeah. There is a guy named Carl that you send your ecu to with mods and he will reflash it for you. Not sure on standalone. Trying to go the easier cheaper route. Not going for big numbers

Here is the story of how much of an asspain it can be to go from New Bern, NC to Rock Hill, SC in order to buy a trailer:

Sunday: Got a flat tire on the Ram due to some fucker dropping a ton of metal debris in the middle of I-85. Didn't have a spare; had it towed and had a tire mounted, as the damage was from a 1/2" square steel tube.

Monday: Blew a tire on the trailer I bought the night before, in exactly the same spot where I had the flat on the truck the previous day...except on the opposite side of I-85, going the other direction. Had a spare for that one; changed it in a parking lot.

Stopped for lunch a few minutes later, and I'll be damned if I didn't hear another tire on the trailer hissing. I pumped it up to the max rated px and drove a little further to where I was going, then took it off and plugged it.

Left from there and was heading back to my house in New Bern...got to between Smithfield and Goldsboro, and my AC compressor seized, shitting the serpentine belt (It had been making hellacious noise for a day or two...I was just trying to get it home and take care of it there). Got a shorter belt to try to bypass the compressor and drive it home, but nobody had the size I wanted in stock. I got the closest that I could, but it was a little too short.

Tuesday: zxappeal was headed that direction anyway, so I rode back down there with him and we put a new compressor and belt on the truck. Finally made it home last night...what a debacle.

Question: How do you measure/guesstimate the size in that situation? Just curious in case I ever find myself needing to do the same.

string... chances are that if the engine in question wasnt available with an non a/c option then the routing will most probably not be possible.

I've seen gutted A/C compressors used for idler pulleys before.

Just a thought.

An AC compressor is an idler pulley when it isn't turned on, I think the clutch hub seized not the compressor?

This past weekend:

First, built an extension on my garage

New tires and wheels on the race jeep , 35x12.5x17 BFG MT/KR short course stickies:

plated the front 3' or so of the frame rails. lack of strength in this area near steering box is what took us out of the last race.

we also installed half of my new shifter setup. we got the gated cable shifter in, allows quick bumps between drive and reverse when needed
the rear shifter is unmounted, and it is the one that will give me full electronic control of the trans, similar to a full manual valve body, except electronic control.

Sweet. How much did that end up costing, and how much did you do yourself vs. contract out? What's the plan for the upstairs?

Quote :

Well, the belt broke, so I just routed the belt around all the pulleys except the AC compressor, pulled it tight, and measured how much I had left over. The idea was to go just a little shorter than that so that the tensioner could keep it tight.

You have a little bit of leeway, due to the tensioner. Unfortunately, nobody had a belt in stock that was even close.

...and yeah, it was the clutch hub that seized.

^cost 36k to have the contractor handle all of it and have it DONE in 2 weeks vs maybe 28k to do it myself (though I can't get contractor material pricing so maybe more).

upstairs is just storage right now and will contain all my stuff when I go to barbados or back to school, depending on how things work out, so I can rent out my house. when I return I'll make upstairs a studio apartment. I should be able to get a few hundred a month on that, though I'd only rent to someone I knew really well since all my tools would be in there.

That is similar to the man cave i want to build. Double stall double car drive through garage. Plumbing on first floor to have sink, small kitchen, shower and other water based stuff. Build loft above to live in or to have as hangout room. Put it out in the country on some cheap land and use it for the many projects i plan to have.

Yeah luckily I had a friend within 40 miles of the exhaust so I had a convenient place to crash for the night. I also couldn't drive up to get the exhaust with my S2000 b/c it wouldn't fit inside

I think it sounds really good though. My instructor at CMS the other weekend (drives a 996 Turbo) thought it sounded fantastic. As does Hiro, who went for a joyriding spin in it last night

I really enjoyed TKE's exhaust. Got to listen to it around town with the top down the other day (Thanks again for that Pat! It was a blast. ) Then again, it is quite loud as the baffles were not in place so I'm sure most people would find it overbearing...

^ lol. epic post timing...

Front end alignment on the Lexus. Trying to get this damn uneven tire wear issue straightened out. Essentially zeroed the front end toe. i'll be damned if I go through another set of tires in 20k miles. I refuse to have theDuke866 syndrome

^ That's an exaggeration... It didn't blow out...

Part of the tread came off, exposing the steel liner in the tire. Going 70 mph, we heard parts of the tread flying off and slapping the inside of the wheel well Usually I'll glance at the tires to check the wear and it always looked great. I was actually satisfied since I had just checked it and there was about 65% thread left at 20k miles. What I failed to see was the excessive wear on the inside (less than 1" wide) that had gone completely bald. The alignment was within spec, but these cars come with a lot of positive toe and the front suspension on these cars are ridiculous when it comes to wear and tear. Hell, the front rotors and pads lasted only 25k miles iirc. I've heard similar complaints with OEM/factory parts with the ISx50 line.

dist cap, rotor, and plugs on the dakota. also changed a fog light bulb that was blown. still needs rear shoes and brake parts kit. probably do transmission filter/fluid and rear end grease soon. also want to add a transmission cooler and swap to a 180 deg thermostat to help with towing. prob go ahead and flush the cooling system when i do the thermostat.

Had all this work done for free: Replaced electronic power steering assist (recall part), replaced fuel pump and fuel tank (Both were leaking. The fuel pump was covered under my powertrain warranty but my tank wasn't. The dealership decided to comp the parts and labor for the pump for whatever reason, which was a nice surprise).

Next up is a full brake replacement, rotors, drums, pads and shoes. Followed by new struts (left one is leaking fluid) and new shocks.

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion 3 with roughly 65,000 miles. Quantico wreaked havoc on my car. The strut repair has been quoted as costing roughly $725.00 for parts and labor (includes $80 alignment). I'm going to try and find a place that will do it cheaper, but I'm not sure if there is one. I might just try to buy the struts off eBay and see if I can find a place who will just charge me the labor and alignment since they quoted both struts costing ~$200 each.

fuel gauge in the fairlane isnt working anymore-

checked the electrics in the dash and everything is fine. im beginning to think the toulene i put in the gas has eaten the float in the sensor.

last thing i fixed was the floats in the carb, which had sprung a leak and filled up as well.

im beginning to see a pattern
