What coach gives us the best chance for a good 2011 class/graduate transfers? Thats who I want.
Wood Howell Brown Harrow Leslie +2 productive freshmen
would be a damn good team. especially with williams, painter and vandy as reserves.
How common is it for recruits to go with the coach? 3/15/2011 12:26:26 AM |

You're saying if they follow Lowe?
Where's Lowe going to go? The NBA?
We might lose some recruits, but they won't be following Lowe anywhere
And it's foolish to plan your coaching search around a bunch of recruits or current players. I want the coach that's going to be the best coach and win....period. I don't give a shit if everyone transfers.

^ agreed
a good coach can rebuild a basketball program from ground up with 2-3 good recruiting classes
if thats what it takes for long term success, im down
dont get me wrong, i dont wanna see anyone leave but if they do, its the nature of the business 3/15/2011 12:31:45 AM |

You must have misunderstood my post. I'm not talking about Lowe at all. I'm talking about out of three of four great candidates, I would rather hire the one who would BRING IN his recruits for this next season so that we won't have gaps in our roster for years to come like last time.
I don't know what the likelihood of someone taking recruits as part of the deal Kentucky style but Sean Miller, for example, has four good looking commits coming in.
Rick Barnes has five and could probably bring balbay along for the ride.
Fox only has 1. 3/15/2011 1:03:28 AM |

still not something that should really be considered.
that said, any reason to not hire fox is a good enough reason. 3/15/2011 3:00:39 AM |

gillispie was on local sports talk radio this morning here in southeast texas, with some interesting things to say.
the interviewer was trying to get hints at where he's looking for, or if any teams had been contacting him, but told bg not to mention any names
bg said:
-he'd be most interested in a situation where a team with a rich history is currently in a down time, and feels as if he is best suited to returning a team to it's former glory -he is looking for a place that has passionate fans that would fill an arena night after night -he is looking for a place that has rivalries with tough competition -he is looking for a place with top facilities and talent
so basically it's like me not having a car and thinking i should go for a high-end sports car, since well, i used to have one even though i wrecked the shit out of it. or, he's talking about us. or, he's talking about several other schools in the same position. or, he's just giving the top sell that any AD in the nation looking for a coach wants to hear. as a person coming from a family that's deeply entrenched in UK basketball (basically the only person in my family that didnt attend UK), I have pretty mixed emotions about possibly going after gillispie.
side note: it's amazing how many longhorn fans are calling in to talk about spring football rosters and the hosts try to steer them to basketball, but with no interest at all.

I'd be more amazed if longhorn fans WERE interested in talking basketball with spring football around the corner.
That's why Rick Barnes has the best basketball coaching gig in America, and why people who think he'd leave that for NCSU are daft.3/15/2011 10:55:03 AM |

Honestly I wouldn't mind Tim Floyd. We'd certainly get NBA caliber recruits and we'd have someone who wouldn't take cheap treatment from refs, and before you turn him down based on that, realize he's no worse than any baseball manager. 3/15/2011 12:47:18 PM |

Georgia isn't laughable at all... Of course it will always be a football school first, as any school in the SEC should be except Kentucky, but there is a TON of in state talent in bball. Someone that can keep it around, and keep it out of GT's hands could go really really far there, at least as far as Tennessee has under Pearl and even what Donovan has done at Florida 3/15/2011 1:15:05 PM |
