So...to rebuilding.

Any chance that we change the mindset and start building up the defense? We've got way too many mediocre forwards sucking up cap space and a few strong prospects that are on the cusp of being up here permanently. If we acquired two top-four defensive-minded d-men, it would obviously strengthen our D, but it would also allow for a younger set of forwards to be bailed out a few times in the growing process. Add in a playmaking forward for a draft pick (Yakupov etc.), and we're in decent shape.

It just seems like with two big moves for d-men, you could put a solid group in front of Ward, which he would feed off of (kind of like giving Staal a line with Ruutu and Jokinen instead of LaRose and Tlusty... ). It would also cut down on our horrendous +/- numbers. We have problems up front, but with guys to fall back on, it would give us a point from which we could start building up a playoff team again.

Obviously with Maurice this never would have happened. Hopefully Muller can talk JR in to changing things.

Yes, rebuild, we have no defensive future. because faulk, murphy, dumoulin, and alt are worthless.

No, you're just semi-retarded. We've actually got defensive prospects for once. Couple them with some journeymen to round out the d, plus the existing players we have that contribute, and we're OK. Fix the coaching issues. Maybe lewis can do this with Muller, we'll see. But Rowe was a fucking moron

I could see trading some of the expiring contracts (gleason, ruutu, allen etc) to contenders at the trade deadline if we don't have a chance, which seems very likely. We'd get a decent return for any of them.

They need to let Dalpe and Bowman stay up, not on the 4th line either. They're both better than Dwyer, Brent, Tlusty, Penalty Shot Expert Chad Larose, Nodl, and Ponikarovsky already. So many shit forwards who should all be 4th liners at best on any team. Boychuck, Matsumoto, Samson, and Nash couldn't be any worse than our mediocre forwards, so we might as well just get rid of all of them and stock up on prospects and picks.

I agree with most of that. We need to see Dalpe full time, and Bowman, Boychuk and Samson need to make appearances a lot more often. I like Samson's game last year and am curious as to why he's been buried in Charlotte this year (where he's been an All Star).

I like Poni, but I'd happily dump Nodl, Brent, Dwyer, Tlusty for any of these kids to get more time.

i feel bad for brandon sutter. he's so good, but every night they put him on a line with like dwyer and nodl or some other crappy forward. it must feel like he's on the PK the entire game. I know he's awesome defensively, but he deserves talent around him for how hard he plays.

I think Dwyer is a great complement to Sutter on that line, as far as serving their purpose (shut down top lines). I liked seeing Stewart moved up in place of Tlusty after the first, dude skates hard every night, he'd be a decent threat if he had any hands whatsoever.

Ruutu +4, must be driving that trade value way up!

I also just realized that Jay Harrison has 6 goals, pretty awesome.

With 7mil price tag for next year and the year after, they would have to add draft picks just for us to take his salary dump

The home games against Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh are wrapped up.

The fact that Boston is added to this list tonight makes me pleased. The 4 most annoying fan bases in the NHL (Vancouver could be added to this list but they're rarely in town), gone from the RBC for awhile after tonight.

Hard to be upset with a loss when we had 20 more shots on goal than they did.

This team is headed in the right direction and I'm excited about it. We're become a team that is hard to play against.

While I agree with your second thought, it's unrelated to the first.

We've been outshooting 2-1 and losing for 10+ years. Mo fucking loved 40 shots to the crest.

Uh we do not have a 2-1 shot ratio against the other team..... not now and not historically.
I think 42 shots is our season high and we average 30.5 shots a game and 31 against.
