Hey where is everyone parking for the kickoff game? It looks like Orange lot is the only one available through the official site. Does anyone know if that is a deck or an open lot good for tailgating?

So is Brosius staying? Wouldn't he have decided by now if he was going to transfer?

Was he really thinking about transferring? It makes no sense. He'd have to sit out this year, and he's probably going to start here next year. Why would he want to go learn a new system when he's not going to play this year anyways?

^ have you not followed the off-season? He wasn't practicing with the team in the spring due to off the field issues. TOB has said that he's still on the team, but of course he's going to be low on the depth chart

It makes sense if you think Pete Thomas is going to start for the next 2 years.

Pete Thomas started 21 straight games at Colarado State University as a true freshman and a sophomore.
He'll be a rs junior next year after practicing with the team for a year.
I imagine Thomas will make a strong case to start the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

I think that's why there was speculation/rumors that Brosius was considering transferring.
Hopefully he stays.

http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2012/jul/22/opening-opponent-already-has-uts-attention/?partner=RSS

Quote :
"As uncertain as a football season can be from a preseason vantage point, Tennessee at least knows its opener won't be anything like the last three.

The Vols opened the 2011 season with a 42-16 victory over Montana at Neyland Stadium. That fell merrily in line with the previous two openers, a 50-0 rout of UT Martin in 2010 and a 63-7 victory against Western Kentucky in 2009.

None of those openers should to be confused with what's next: an Aug. 31 game in the Georgia Dome against North Carolina State, which could be a preseason top-25 team and should pose a significant challenge for a UT team coming off a 5-7 season.

The more formidable opening opponent already has gotten the Vols' attention. They began checking out videotape of the Wolfpack in May, as soon as they completed their final exams.

"With a bigger game like this, it gives you an edge," UT cornerback Marsalis Teague said. "You want to get on it earlier."

N.C. State will present a potent passing attack — led by senior quarterback Mike Glennon, who threw for more than 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns last season — and a defense that returns seven starters, including All-American cornerback David Amerson.

"They're a good team," UT cornerback Prentiss Waggner said. "It's going to be a challenge for us."

N.C. State, which was 8-5 last season, started slowly in 2011 but finished

strong, winning its last three games, capped by a victory over Louisville in the Belk Bowl. The stretch run was highlighted by a 37-13 victory against nationally ranked Clemson.

"They're obviously a good team," Teague said. "We will have to come up with our best game."

UT's defensive challenge could be compounded by its switch to a 3-4 alignment and the different looks presented by a varied N.C. State offense.

"We've been watching all their shifts and motion," UT linebacker Herman Lathers said.

A more difficult opponent won't be the only season-opening change. The game will be played Friday night in the Georgia Dome.

"When August 31 rolls around, I don't care if it's Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday," Teague said. "We'll all be ready to go."

Hey Adams, have you checked their roster losses from last season? Three senior receivers including one that was the all-time ACC record holder in kick return yardage. An All-ACC tight end is gone. All three starting linebackers are gone. Quarterback is a statue, not very mobile at all. They lost some linemen too. Vols win by 17-20 points!"

VOLS hang 100 in their first 2 games. Start 4-0."

Quote :
"I like your prediction but NC State is not a pushover.
"They return 14 full-time starters, including QB Mike Glennon and CB David Amerson, who led the nation with 13 interceptions last season. Glennon threw for 3,054 yards and 31 TDs last season, He had seven games with at least three TD passes and was red-hot down the stretch, throwing for 809 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions in the final three games."
IMO, This one will be won in the trenches, beef vs beef."

anyone know how Hakeem Flowers has been looking in practices? He should have plenty of opportunity to get in the mix, and he was probably one of our biggest recruits a year ago. Seems to have the size to be a threat.

By, "we reach out", I mean, "have PSU players reach out to us", haha.

I'm certain that most of the PSU players will be contacted, and I wonder how strict the NCAA will be about this since they basically just made the entire PSU roster FAs.

"A few years back, pop philosopher Malcolm Gladwell introduced the pseudo-intellectuals, self-help gurus and aspiring Earl Woodses of America to the “10,000-hour rule,” the idea that mastering any complex skill at an elite level requires 10,000 hours of dedicated practice. If you or someone you know subscribes to this idea, or some variant thereof, have I got the college football team for you: Entering year six under head coach Tom O’Brien, N.C. State’s fate is more dependent on fourth- and fifth-year vets than any other outfit in the ACC, and maybe the country.

The starting quarterback, Mike Glennon, is a senior with draft-worthy measurables and now a full season as a starter under his belt; ditto the leading returning rusher (James Washington) and receiver (Tobais Palmer). The offensive line returns five old hands who have combined for 111 career starts. On defense, the top four members of the secondary have combined for 114 career starts. Other seniors and fourth-year juniors are atop the depth chart at receiver, tight end, two of the three linebacker slots and both ends of the defensive line. These guys have played a lot of football together.

The line from quantity to quality, though, is still a little shaky—especially on the offensive line, whose venerable members presided over an attack last year that finished 115th in Rushing S&P+ and 98th in sacks allowed, barely avoiding the ACC cellar on both counts. Despite a relatively forgiving schedule, at various points the Wolfpack were blown out by
Cincinnati, shut out by Florida State, and upset by division doormats Wake Forest and Boston College. If not for an unsustainably high turnover margin (plus-14 for the year, best in the ACC and easily the best of the O’Brien era), they would have likely fallen short of the postseason for the third time in five years and subjected their coach to an offseason of incessant “hot seat’ chatter.

Still, the fact that a struggling outfit did rally with a pair of November upsets over North Carolina and Clemson and an incredible fourth quarter comeback against Maryland to score a bowl bid does speak to a general upward trend over the course of the season, as does the bowl win over Louisville. Glennon, in particular, showed up late with 11 touchdown passes in the three-game winning streak to close the year, arguably the three best games of his career. Given a little run support, enough time in the pocket and a go-to target to replace the departed T.J. Graham, it’s not out of the question for Glennon to pass the Pack into dark horse contention in the Atlantic Division. But it would require a leap well beyond the natural progression.

Top 2013 NFL Prospects: CB David Amerson* (1), QB Mike Glennon (3-4), DB Brandan Bishop (6-7), OT R.J. Mattes (6-7)."

Kind of a sad list. How is Earl Wolff, with his speed and production, not being projected in the draft? I'd think teams would at least have him in rounds 5-7.

So it's my understanding that you lose eligibility at junior college, but not at prep school. Can someone explain to me why some can go to prep school and not lose eligibility (Lo Brown)?

i would assume those are the ones with basically no chance of getting admitted to a 4 year school because of bad grades/low test scores, and that the ones that go to prep school are close to qualifying so they can take a year to bring up grades in their core classes and work on a higher SAT score.

but i really have no idea and am talking out of my ass.

http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2012/07/23/a-response-to-stokan/

Quote :
"*Only five teams (in order: Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State, Texas) averaged more fans per home game in 2011 than Tennessee (94,642). State ranked outside the Top 30 (56,287). This suggests a much higher demand for football tickets at Tennessee (40.5% more, in fact).

Joe Ovies added a thought (@joeovies)

@statefansnation justify reasons for not going, but you don’t see SEC fans justifying reasons not to go to something. They go.

*By this argument (“they go”), you’d expect Tennessee (from the SEC) to have easily sold out its 31,500 allotment, yet they haven’t — what is their excuse? Tennessee’s sales are right on par with State’s. Based on 2011 average attendance, State has sold 26.6% of its average home attendance (15,000/56,287) while Tennessee has sold only 27.5% (26,000/94,642). Clemson has sold 33.4% (26,000/77,959) and Auburn 36.7% (31,500/85,792). Shouldn’t Stokan be more disappointed in the much larger, nomadic Tennessee fan base?

*Auburn and Clemson — who play each other on Saturday — combined have sold 28.7% (16,500) more tickets than State and Tennessee. Isn’t it then plausible to suggest the Friday scheduling before a Holiday weekend impacted ticket sales?"

That's horrible logic. If the game was held at the stadiums mentioned then it would make sense. But using however big a team's home stadium is to gauge attendance at an away game makes no sense. Might as well use the population of the university or the population of the state. For four schools that are basically the same distance away from the venue (in terms of the entire country, 2-6 hours away) it should just purely go by the number of ticket sold. 31,000; 26,000; 26,000; 15,000
