i thought it was funny that they burned their freshman qb's redshirt (rowe) for that final drive, only to miss the kick.

this was the craziest football games I've seen in a while. Things could have gone either way. At the end, when I was watching that last play, I was thinking "Well there goes the game, but I was like well..."

At first I was like WTF, but after they said the first QB's knee doesn't look good, I realized they'll need both of their only two remaining QBs to finish out the season.

And all of their QBs seemed very impressive considering how far down the depth chart they've had to go. I mean with the transfer and injuries, they were using their 4th and 5th string QB, and they moved the ball well.

^4. Glad to hear his call. Gives a nice balance to the ESPN color guy who was cheering the Terps.

I swear they cut away to Duke/UNC just before he started crying.

And i they called THAT a block in the back, then I don't know what to say. That one was definitely in the side, more so than the one on the QB

It's a judgement by the ref. Didn't need the block though, Amerson had checked out.

""When I got off the ball, I looked up and the next thing I know, defensive backs are starting to part like the red sea," he remembered. "I'm like, 'well I better turn my head around.' The next thing I know, the ball is coming. I catch the ball and turn around. There's a little, bitty DB right there; I didn't want to hurt him, but I just decided, 'you ain't stopping me from getting in the end zone.'"

"I'm just so happy that Mike decided to throw me the ball, as many times as I run dummy routes and everything like that. For the one time for me to be open and him to actually give it to me like that, I daggone sure congratulated him, too. When he came to celebrate with me, I think I hit him a little hard in the head, but first touchdown catch. I've had a couple receptions before then, but there's nothing like a touchdown reception."

The 6-foot-1, 240-pounder has been coached to look for the ball whenever he's in the game, so he wasn't surprised by getting the chance.

"Coach tells us to always expect the ball, so every time - no matter if I know I'm the dummy route or not - I'm turning my head because there's always that one in a million chance that he's going to throw it to you," he said. "Tonight was that millionth chance.

"Whenever I catch that ball and I see that I'm anywhere near the end zone, there ain't nobody that can stop me. They can try their best, but they ain't going to do it, not when I need to get my first one. My adrenaline was just pumping, and I didn't see anyone stopping me - I just focused straight on that goal-line and just ran right through it.""

That wasn't a block in the back either. I saw both of those happen in real time and was all like..."fuck...neither one of those were blocks in the back...but they're gonna call it anyways."

It seems like on interception returns refs feel like they have to call a block in the back. That TD would have made the game a lot less stressful.

I was at that game as well. MD fans didn't give me any hell, probably because I was sitting with UMD fans, and tailgated with UMD fans. I did cheer loudly every time we did something good and nobody gave me hell.

I gotta say though, their "home" stadium atmosphere sucks. Their fans aren't very passionate, they never really started any loud chants ever, and the electronic scoreboard stuff that is supposed to pump up the crowd was horrible.

This was the second NCSU game I've seen there, and we've won both of them. Guess I'll have to keep going back!

Wait, when did you see State beat UMD in College Park? I've been to (I thought) the last 4 and we lost them all. I may be misremembering going to the game - but I haven't seen State win there (until Saturday).

I was at the game and I agree - their fans do suck. The stands were emply despite it being homecoming. I'm just glad I didn't have to walk back to the pay lot and take the abuse I usually take after the usual UMD ass kicking we get.

13 votes in the AP poll We might get in with 2 more straight wins.

"1) Glad Amerson got his INT but why did he not just run to the sideline on the return? Did he think the QB would catch him?"

I thought this too. But I checked his postgame comments, and he clears it up:

"I saw the quarterback, he had an angle on me and I was kind of tired, so I knew I wasn't really going to outrun him, so I cut back and it was home free from there."
