At least to start off the season, I think you'll see:

PG:Javi/Harrow
SG:Brown/Wood
SF:Leslie/Wood
PF:Smith/Howell
Cainter/Vandy/Howell

Not that it's the lineup I'd like to see, but that's what we'll get for a bit until Sid realizes the lineup he needs. Seems like every year it takes Sid about half of the season to get his lineup the way most people cry for, and the most effective.

congrats tke, btw, on reaching twenty-nine thousand posts on tww.

regarding the lineup, how do you figure that Painter starts after not starting all last year? and we return all of our big men?

I can see Howell starting before Painter does. I still like Scott as a starter.

Supposedly he's improved quite a bit already over the summer, and there has been talk that Tracy will spend a lot more time at the 4 this season which would necessitate either Painter or Vandy playing significant minutes at the 5.

damn I really hope we get Seagears if we miss out on Cook...sounds like a player

Randle is currently the #7 PG in the 2011 fwiw, if you buy into rankings

I, too, like Seagears. If you watch his vid he has really long, almost rondo-esque arms. Hard to tell if he has freakishly huge hands too but good enough for now. Beyond that, he seems like a smooth player

Seagears is a good player and I think we need to get at least one of him and Cook. I'd love to get Cook, but if we can't and we end up with Seagears it won't be that bad.

Uchebo was able to get one of the last coveted slots for the prestigious NBPA Camp June 16-20 at UVA. this is good news for him.

Right now it is looking like Uchebo will enter the season as a Top 130 player by rivals and he was attending the Wolfpack elite camp this past weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Uchebo will play with CP3 in Orlando for the Super Showcase and AAU Nationals in late July. CP3 could end up hosting a tournament in Greensboro on July 9-11, but it’s still in the beginning processes of getting organized.

Yes, Seagers was there also but injured some. He got banged up at Pangos last week when some fuck tackled him and bruised his knee

PA junior power forward Mike Zangari might be making an unofficial visit to NC State this summer.

6-9 , Red Land High PA ... long, skilled, has a good feel for the game and has the frame to gain weight in the future.

Rutgers has already offered him, and Penn State has shown some interest, but NCSU was one of the first schools to actively recruit him. http://highschoolsports.pennlive.com/player/mike-zangari/

Deuce Bello update from the N&O at the NBPA Top 100

Quote :
"Bello shines: Deuce Bello soared to the rim for a dunk over two defenders in transition. The next trip down the floor, the guard from Greensboro hit a step-back 3-pointer from the corner.

At an NBAPA Top 100 camp devoid of most of the top 20 players from the class of 2011, Bello shone in the first two days.

He scored 11 points for the Jazz on Friday morning in a 72-64 win over the Hornets. He has 32 points in three games, helping the Jazz to a 2-1 record.

Not bad for a prospect ranked No. 97 by Scout.com's Dave Telep, who's one of the camp's directors."

http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/06/18/540960/nc-state-recruit-switches-high.html

If Deuce were a little taller, he'd seem like a good SF since we're going to be weak at that position next year. Of course, Dezmine Wells is the same height.

I know its not the lineups thread but i think we go with

PG: Javi
SG: Brown
SF: Wood
PF: Leslie
C: Smith

That lineup gives us three perimeter threats to surround Tracy with so he has more room to operate in the post. Regardless of what Lowe has said about moving Tracy to the 4, we are best served with Tracy playing with his back to the basket. The ACC lost a LOT of size this offseason, and he should be deadly on the block this year.

Playing Leslie at the 4 enables him to really roam and get putbacks and dropoffs from Tracy without having to waste plays with his inevitable turnovers if we run the offense through him. I like bringing Howell off the bench because he's a bit foul prone and I think he can come in against weaker front lines and really dominate with physical play and rebounding. If he plays the 4 and we bring CJL off the bench it's really no big deal, I just feel like Howell is better suited coming off the bench rather than picking up early touch fouls that ACC refs like to dole out.

Harrow can provide penetration and create offense on his own so I think he's a better fit this season with CJ Williams and our second unit. Brown should complement Javi better and take a lot of pressure off him from trying to do too much. I don't like the idea of playing Harrow/Brown together in the backcourt too much this year until they get more experience.

There is no reason for us to sit Scott Wood by playing CJL at the three, he should have many more open looks this year and his defense was a bright spot for us last year. He should not have to play as many minutes this year and hopefully that will help lift his shooting percentages. Also, CJL seems like the kind of player that tries to do too much with the ball in his hands so I don't want him handling the ball or taking perimeter jumpers while defenses collapse on Tracy. He will wreck our spacing if he plays the 3 in my opinion.

Painter will play a limited role next year simply because we have three versatile post players ahead of him in the rotation and we can't afford not to maximize their minutes. I think Painter will develop into a solid post player and find plenty of minutes the following year when Tracy and potentially CJL are gone. He's really terrific at defensive rotations and he showed some flashes of good post moves last year in limited opportunities at the end of season.

Vandenburg needs to really focus on improving his athleticism and developing a reliable move or short jumper that he can go to. We probably won't have much use for him this season, but if he can become a shot blocking/rebounding presence (think Zoubeck-lite) for his Jr/Sr seasons he could make an impact and find some quality playing time.

Losing Mays is obviously addition by subtraction and will help clear minutes for more talented and effective guards. I would have liked to keep Josh Davis as I think he's a guy that helps us against midmajor type schools and can make a few hustle plays in a pinch against ACC caliber competition. Ultimately, we're better off having his scholarship for a blue chipper while we're hot in recruiting, but I don't think his defection makes us better next season. Johnny Thomas could have provided us some depth at the forward spot, and may have seen quality minutes the following year. His defection hurts us more from a leadership standpoint than a roster hole though since we have so much depth in the frontcourt.

It would be awesome if CJL was able to effectively play the 3 and we could run a frontline of CJL, Howell, and Tracy at teams with Javi/Harrow in the backcourt paired with Brown but I don't see that being as effective as the lineup I proposed above.

Our offense needs to be run through T. Smith, period. He's nearly impossible to stop with one man guarding him and he learned to play through double teams all last season. Last year when he kicked it out, we weren't able to make teams pay because we always had a non-shooter like Degand, Mays, Davis, CJW that teams could rotate off of. This year we should be able to bury threes and with all the fouls T.Smith draws working the post and the athleticism we add with Brown, Leslie, and Harrow we should be getting to the line a ton this year.

Dangerous team if they can harness their potential.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Javi start all year. He will be one of the most (if not most) experienced PG in the ACC.

Harrow got the skills to start from day one. But his size, being a freshman, defense, playing in a new system, etc. will make it hard to replace a senior PG with 4 years of playing time.

I want to see how Painter looks. I think he could end up getting more playing time than we think if he's improved as much as Hodge as let on. I'm not just going to take Hodge's word on it, but he's said that Painter has been working hard all summer to improve his post play.

THE BIG DANDY VANDY could be a shot blocking/defensive presence, but unless he works on some kind of post move or short jumper then he's useless for anything other than put-backs on the offensive end. He is athletic, but pretty uncoordinated with the ball in his hands and unsure of what to do with it at game speed.

I think we may see Harrow start by ACC season, but regardless I think Javi will be worlds better with Brown helping him at the 2. It makes it so that Javi doesn't have to try and think he needs to take over the game (like he did at points last year when he lost control). Also hopefully Wood has worked on his driving a bit and adding CJL helps us in this regard too because he can create offense for himself at whatever position he lines up at.

Javi will definitely start at least until ACC season. Knowing what to do with the ball against college defense rotations is something you can only learn through experience. Harrow may be able to beat anyone one on one, but college teams won't play him like that. They will collapse and rotate, and the guard has to know where the ball should go and where our players are going to move.

uchebo with 16 points in game 3

Quote :
"The triumvirate of Nick Faust, DeAndre Daniels and Joseph Uchebo were the crowning jewels as the Pistons overcame a Magic second half comeback only to thwart that attempt and cruise straight to a 104-81 triumph and keep their gaudy 3-0 record intact. Faust, Daniels and Uchebo all finished with 16 points apiece for the Pistons and “Mighty” Chris Jones stepped in adding 13 points to the cause for one of the strongest squads in the camp"

I dont really give a fuck where Uchebo ends up ranked, I'm excited we have him coming in. I can see him having a Jordan Williams-lite impact where he dominates the boards and provides some scoring his frosh year with the potential for more as he develops (obviously dont think his numbers will look as good since we'll have Howell/maybe CJL/Painter/etc). He's just the type of player you need to win games in college
