Anyone tried Mint SIM? It is damn cheap. $15 for 2 GB, $20 for 5 GB, and $25 for 10 GB. Never seen plans that cheap, ever.
And for new customers if you get the 2 GB plan for 3 months, you get 3 months free.

Thinking of moving from Google Fi to that due to the substantial savings, but just wondering about quality of connectivity. 12/17/2017 2:42:42 AM |

Got tired of the shitty battery life on my Note 5. I was barely getting 1.5 hours of SOT. Samsung gave me $400 for it so I got an S8 for $350. Much happier with the battery life. Same size battery but hoping to get closer to 4 hours SOT.
It's also nice having a slightly smaller phone for once. Also the waterproofing is going to be great. 12/18/2017 1:02:30 PM |

Do you keep it at the default resolution of 2220x1080 or bump it up to 2960x1440? From what I'm reading you get an additional 1.5 hours or so of SOT with the lower (default) resolution. I'm down to 25% for the day with only 2 hours and 25 minutes of SOT but it's lasted the whole day at least. 12/18/2017 10:29:29 PM |

Default. The battery life works well for my routine. I do have a fast charger on my desk, so I try to grab some power when I'm not in meetings or out in the field. 12/19/2017 7:24:18 AM |

Yeah the default was super blurry for me so I turned it up. I'll take the battery hit for the native resolution. 12/19/2017 2:14:40 PM |

I have a Motorola Droid Turbo. It's been a good phone. It's more than 3 years old and the battery is starting to show it's age. My only real gripe is that it was a Verizon exclusive which means that accessories were limited and the manufacturer and carrier are less likely to push out updates.
Do I want another flagship phone? I want a phone that remains a priority for new updates. I want a good camera. I'm not a real power-user. I use a few, low-impact apps. Do I need bleeding edge hardware and the high price tags?
The Pixel 2 phones seem to have had some hiccups but are otherwise attractive options save their price. The Samsung phones are almost their own ecosystem these days separate from the other Android devices. Besides, the S9 is likely out soon. Motorola seems content to make mid-tier phones. Are LG and HTC making good phones under their own names? One Plus? Essential?
And why the hell does everyone have to make phones so damned big?! 1/12/2018 2:38:06 PM |
afripino All American 11425 Posts user info edit post |
they're making them smaller again, but with big screens. S8 (non-plus) is a good size if you don't want something huge. definitely wait for the S9 announcement and maybe get the S8 at a discount. 1/15/2018 9:48:25 AM |

I enjoy my Moto Z Force 2 or whatever the hell this thing is called. Mainly I enjoy having a screen that doesn't shatter. I have shattered EVERY cell phone screen I have ever owned (and not from dropping them usually, almost every one shattered in my pocket while I was working.) I despise cases like otterbox and LifeProof, so not having a shit screen was a huge selling point for me. So far, so good.
The last Samsung I had was an ST, which I got almost as soon as it was released and that phone was a piece of garbage and turned me off from Samsung for the foreseeable future. 1/16/2018 4:47:35 PM |

what's the easiest way to create android apps? i need to create a really basic .apk that launches a website, that's all it needs to do.
i have android tv and i want to make an app that launches a website (specifically a dashboard site i have) so that I don't have to open the browser and navigate to the site each time i want to display it. basically i'm trying to use the android tv in a sort of kiosk mode when i'm not otherwise using it. 10/26/2018 10:10:51 AM |

need a new phone...pixel xl is running a little slow and wacky at times. Trying to decide between OnePlus 6T and Pixel 3 XL. I like just about everything about the 6T, except the camera isn't as good as the Pixels (or the accompanying software). Don't know if I want to sacrifice the things I like better on the 6T for a better camera though.

it'll have no goddamn notch and an onscreen fingerprint reader. i'd wait for the note 10, but i'm hankering for a new phone sooner than that
i got an s7 plus right now. it has issues that'd probably be fixed with a full reset but if i'm going to deal with that i'm going to get a new phone anyway
i really like what the pixels are doing with their camera software, but that's about it. their hardware seems at least a generation behind everyone else and their launcher makes some questionable and half-assed UI choices
oneplus has a nice looking phone, but is constantly fucking something critical up. for example, their newest os has huge security issues. and yeah their camera is meh
samsung always has great hardware and has been steadily un-fucking their UI for a few years now. i'm a little worried they'll get rid of their MST chip on the new phone though 11/21/2018 9:11:35 AM |

Fuck those expensive ass phones. I've been getting midrange Android phones and they suit my needs just fine. Yeah I've had to do that a few times with my Pixel XL and I've got to say it's a pretty easy process these days. Only things that come to mind that you have to do manually is: 1) Backup/Restore SMS/MMS messages - don't know why that isn't backed up automatically...assume Apple does that 2) Customization - Wallpaper, widgets, developer options etc 3) Bluetooth connections - Why isn't this auto backed up?
Quote : | "their hardware seems at least a generation behind everyone else" |
All the phones I'm targeting are based on the current Snapdragon 845 chipset, including the Pixel 3. Where are they a generation behind?
Quote : | "samsung always has great hardware and has been steadily un-fucking their UI for a few years now" |
Good to hear about their UI...but unsure that Samsung s9 has better hardware than a Pixel 3 (for example).
on UI I usually target vanilla Android but I'm not married to it.
