those are some major "changes" mentioned right there

Forde was talking about this quote from a UNC professor.
Quote : | "I think it's high time for all of us to know the full extent of the fraudulent behavior," Smith wrote. "Were members of the 2009 and 2005 national championship teams also beneficiaries of the AFAM/AFRI scam? I for one see no reason to assume that they were not. If the university wants to prove they were not, the whole world is listening."" |

The goal is to cover it up long enough to wait for a bigger event to mask this one over. They are lucky with the Penn State scandal currently.

It is taking so long because the press in NC initially wouldn't report on the scandal over there because they are all UNC homers. I think now, though they are getting pissed off because of the blatant obstruction. Then, keep in mind that a vast majority of the lawyers and judges in this state graduated from UNC as well, so that avenue is also clogged up with homerism. Maybe a few of the reporters want to actually clean up their university, and it's starting to hit the fan now. This might be wishful thinking, but now that we are seeing the press lash out at UNC, things might start speeding up.

I would argue its mostly on the university doing everything in their power to obfuscate the process. You can't really blame the media for not reporting when they can't get a hold of the documents they need for proof. The response from the local media has been much better than it would have been 10~15 years ago.
Also blatant homerism from judges and lawyers not in the UNC employ has been pretty minimal because thankfully the scandal has been so bad it would be really hard for them to make a legit explanation for helping out the program.
Ultimately it comes down to the fact that UNC has made every trick and legal maneuver possible to try and prevent anyone from finding this shit out. 7/19/2012 12:12:47 PM |

As for the judges, I can't imagine that they can't come out and say "enough is enough, damnit. you know the law, release that ish" if they really wanted to do so.
Quote : | "You can't really blame the media for not reporting when they can't get a hold of the documents they need for proof." |
I can blame them for refusing to report on any of it while outlets like Yahoo! and others ARE reporting on it. That's changed recently, clearly, but they were silent long before the lawsuits started flying. The only reason they got on board with the lawsuits is because other national outlets were doing it, and it would look even worse if the local ones weren't covering it.
For fuck's sake, the local media was TOWING THE UNC LINE initially, saying there was nothing to see here, move along!]7/19/2012 12:14:19 PM |

^^ Yeah I think they hid their head under the sand too much in the early going but we're getting a couple articles a week about it right now and Dan Kane has been murdering UNC in the N&O.
There's a lot of blame to go around but I'm of the opinion that its mostly on carolina for blocking the process.
Anyway I have PackPride open on one window and InsideCarolina in another and the dichotomy is hilarious. 7/19/2012 12:18:26 PM |

How can they put an asterisk next to his records? They should have to remove them completely for the ineligible season.
That would be like letting Philip Rivers play an extra year, and then put an asterisk next to his records because he wasn't actually eligible to play. 7/20/2012 8:05:06 AM |
