I'm gonna make Dean's list for the first time semester. (Going to meaning I either have an A- or B+ in the class I haven't heard back from, but it'll be one of those.)
To me, that's an an accomplishment. My freshman year sucked, last semester was okay, this semester was amazing.
I tell my mom this, ask if we can go out to dinner or something...
My mother's response: [sibling name] and [sibling name] made dean's list every semester, we never did anything special for them...
I point out that this semester is better than the others have been so far.
Mom says "Isn't that the point?"


Yeah, my sister graduated with highest honors because of her thesis. Yeah, my brother is going for his PhD in Illinois for chemical engineering and passed his qualifiers a few weeks ago and now has his entire project funded with a bunch of benefits.
Yeah, I'm not them, and to me, this is kind of a big deal.

My grades haven't been too bad otherwise, but in my parents' eyes, that's shit, the fact that this is the first time I've made it means shit to them.

You bitch.

I'm happy for me, at least.
