be wary of this bike. i went to see it LAST YEAR when i was picking up my gsxr. he said it had the same problem.. he wanted 3k then. i said i couldnt buy something that didnt run. so the fucker hasnt run in over a year.

i wouldnt get it just letting you guys know. it's a cool bike, carbon fiiber has some damage from a lay down as well.

when i went there, he said the sprag clutch needed to be replaced and without it.. it wouldnt start. that's the catch. he said it ran great. just giving a heads up. shit for 2400 if it ran i'd get the fucker.

he did some kinda engine work to it too, i think some mild head work and race cams, that's what he told me last year

My R6 is my first bike and I'm ok too. If you haven't ridden much the MSF course would make you feel a hell of a lot better.
15k is not that many miles, if it hasn't been wrecked bad 4700 should be a decent price.

People need to realize that 15k on a bike engine is not a lot. Even though its a 2003, that bike is already 4 years old. I'd say stay away from modern 600's as a first bike. pick up a cheap 90's bike for a good beginners bike.

well i just got back, the bike is in great condition. It has frame sliders, fender kit, flush turn signals. Its black with the red limited edition flames, he just got a new rear and brakes last week as well as a complete turn up. Seems like its a great deal, but i gotta just on it i think. Any imput would be helpful, and i woudnt even ride it until i get seversal lessons from Igor or take a MSF class.

r6's are known to have the sickest powerband and high reving engines. They have almost no low end torque and aren't good starter bikes.

you won't grow out of a 500 over a summer. growing out of a bike means, draggin pegs, gassing it almost 100% through all turns, using all of your tire, not being shy of taking a turn at 85, etc. just because a bike looks cool and has a relatively small displacement in the grand scheme of things, doesn't mean its something a beginner or even a novice can handle

Look take my advice. Jeff taught me how to ride in Feb. '06 and that was the first time i've ever sat on a bike. I heard the bullshit debate if a 600 is a good start. I just said FUCK IT and went for the 600 because I'm not a fucking idiot driver. I haven't been in any car accidents in 7 years and I always am cautious but still know when to have fun riding. If YOU think you are a safe driver then go ahead with a 600. If you don't think you can resist yourself from pulling the throttle on open roads or take 40mph turns then don't be an idiot and put us other drivers in danger. You have to be mature no matter what bike you get. A 500cc bike is still fucking fast imo and you still have a great risk of killing yourself on it if you want. I personally got a YZF 600R (has some enhancement mods) as my first bike and don't regret 1 thing about it. When I was looking to buy, I wanted a bike that just looked very nice and fast and was reliable. It is PLENTY fast and I can easily keep up with my buddys R6. I personally prefer my bike over an R6 anyday for comfort reasons but thats a different issue.

The bike you're looking at is a sick ass bike and for 5 grand you probably can't go wrong with it since R6's have one of the highest resale values around. I've ridden R6's before and they are fucking light and fast so the only thing preventing you from being a fatality is your own self-control.

not to mention braking late into corners and being back at WOT as early as possible...

using all of the FRONT tire is more than just a function of lean angle, it seems to me.

of course, doing all of that consistently on the street means you will eventually wreck. trust me.



but yeah, a 400-500cc machine is better to start with. that or something like an SV-650. like i said, one of two things will happen if you start with a modern race-rep: you will wreck it because it's manhandling you, or you will ride it like a scared bitch without progressing in your abilities because it is manhandling you (you will eventually prob figure it out, but the learning curve will take longer).

and you will have big chicken strips and continually get smoked by good riders on slower bikes, and all of that makes you look like a poser ass squid.

you can also turn around and sell a ninja 500 or something for pretty much what you paid for it after you ride it for 6 months or maybe a year, so there's no reason not to take that route except "I'm too cool for a Ninja 500", which is stupid.


and if you are going to do what almost any good sportbiker will tell you not to do, at least make that 600 you start of with a ZX-6e, a YZF-600, or something pre-1995 or so.

and buy leathers and gloves, and wear them.

sounds like some excellent advice, i'd take it. not that i know anything about riding, but not only are you fucking with your LIFE by getting an overpowered bike to start out with, but you're fucking with everyone else's on the road. just because you have the money to afford a big bike now doesnt give you the license to be an idiot, start with something you know you can handle then move up.


btw, i know a guy that's selling an '87 honda rebel 250, excellent condition, what should I expect him to be asking? he said 1600 but I think that's a little high (for no other reason than its age and power bracket)

I had my first mechanical trouble today. It may be a simple electrical problem, but this is the first time I'd have to ditch the bike and hitch a ride. Was kinda weird getting a ride home from the VP of marketing.

thanks for all the advice, im not gonna get one until break anways, so this one will be sold by then....the way i see it now it the same with my jetski, i got a lil one and now im a master of it, and now can handle the bigger better ones way better than someone just learning to ride on it....
