It's hard to sleep in the Wake county jail. All they have are mats on the floor.

i have circles under my eyes and i sleep like a baby. but the man is guilty as sin. there is no question about it. his wife was raping him of all his money in the divorce settlement and had spent anything else he could have possibly saved up before then and even had to be responsible for paying the debt she accumulated. hell, i almost want to kill someone just thinking about it.

dude is guilty.

what is so hard about filing for divorce these days?

i mean i know it can be expensive and all, but so can a murder trial.

hey, i got a theory: how about:

she's gonna divorce him, take his money, take the kids, and leave his ass hanging high and dry. he's already pissed off cause she cheated on him, and now there's this. so he kills her in a fit of rage and tries some weak ass cover story.

yeah, i know, i know.... that's just too fucking crazy, isn't it. couldn't be possible. i mean, where's the criminal boyfriend fit in? where's the Nigerian mafia? where's Guido the Killer Pimp?

seriously, some of you retards need to put down the bong, and turn off the TV.

get outside.

get some fresh air."

that's only once you're up in the population. if youre unlucky enough to get booked during an acute overcrowding, you'll might stay several days in urine-stained holding cells fighting for space on the benches. hard concrete otherwise, lights on 24/7 and some punk bitch on the payphone complaining about how he cant get a motherfucker to post up some bail

not to mention some fat fuck is always there with gastric distress sitting on the open air toilet surrounded by 12 or more dudes all trying to move to the furthest corner away

you have to eventually pay off a divorce if you have a decent job. You don't worry about it with a murder trial if you're going to be convicted.

i dont get how you could?

so it was just a coincidence his wife ended up dead ... when they were having marital issues and financial problems and she was trying to leave him...

im not trying to argue ... i just really dont see how anyone could think he was innocent

Quote :

the lawyers he couldnt afford ( kurtz and blum) are on the court appointed list and they got the case...

youd think that they wouldnt since he said no to there fee, but i guess they want the publicity

the only thing you know about him is they were having marital problems and that she's dead.. that's hardly enough for a conviction or IMO even enough to charge him. I'm assuming they have a lot more since they were able to charge him and we just don't know about it--with the rest I'd probably agree he was guilty but until I see that it's retarded to assume he's guilty.

[Edited on October 31, 2008 at 11:23 AM. Reason : and it's their fee, not there fee.]

^^ yea yea yea, i reread it later but it was to late tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fix it.

^^ i dont mean based on evidence.. i mean if he was able to cover it up he could still be guilty. i guess i'm just trying to see if you really think it was coincidence knowing she was trying to leave him and they were having problems

^ yea, im just not a big fan of his lawyers

They probably tripped him up in questioning and found a bunch of inconsistencies.

Then they found further inconsistencies after talking to her friends and family.

They probably found some physical or forensic evidence too.

All of that stuff pieced together may not look too good on him.

um, duh. contrary to what the public believes, the point of an investigation is not to share all aspects of the case with the general public (goes for ^, too).

yes, none of us knows for sure which is why everyone should just wait BUT just because they haven't released intricate details to us via the media doesn't mean they don't have evidence (or that they do, but since he got indicted i'm sure they had SOMETHING...weak or not they had SOMETHING).

"Brad Cooper not subject to death penalty

By Mandy Locke, Staff Writer Comment on this story
RALEIGH - For the moment, Brad Cooper will be spared the chance that a Wake County jury could vote for his execution in the death of his wife.

Cooper, 35, is charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation of Nancy Cooper, his wife of eight years and the mother of his two daughters.

Wake County prosecutor Howard Cummings said today that investigators hadn't found any aggravating factors to justify the death penalty under North Carolina law. The law requires prosecutors to prove at least one aggravating factor, such as a particularly heinous, atrocious or cruel killing, before a jury can consider the death penalty for a person convicted of murder.

Cummings told Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens that officers are still investigating, and if they uncover circumstances that could warrant the death penalty, prosecutors might revisit their decision. Otherwise, Cooper faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.

Nancy Cooper's parents, Garry and Donna Rentz, flew down from Canada for today's hearing. Her parents and her twin sister are caring for the Coopers' two young daughters after a Wake County Judge awarded them custody this fall.

Garry Rentz said after the hearing that he trusts prosecutors have -- and will continue to make -- the right decision. He said his family doesn't have strong feelings about the death penalty.

"We've been through a horrendous five months," Rentz said. "We are pleased there is some light at the end of the tunnel."

Donna Rentz said their entire family will celebrate Christmas together and will have a private memorial for Nancy Cooper. Garry Rentz said the Cooper girls, Bella, 4, and Katie, 2, are doing well.

Also today, Brad Cooper's attorney argued that Cooper ought to be granted a bond that would allow him to leave the Wake County jail.

Howard Kurtz told the judge that if Cooper wasn't released, he would lose his job today as an engineer at Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park. Cooper has been on leave since his wife's death in July.

Kurtz argued that Cooper could be trusted to come to court and remain in Wake County should be be released before a trial. No trial date has been set in the case.

"He's faced all of the issues head on and will continue to do so," Kurtz said, arguing that Cooper is not a danger to the community.

"This is a man who is focused on proving his innocence, and I ask he be afforded the maximum opportunity to do so," Kurtz said.

Stephens set Cooper's bond at $2 million, far higher than the $150,000 Kurtz requested.

"Mr. Cooper's employment may be of great importance to him, but frankly, it is of little consequence in the scheme of things, given the charges he is facing," Stephens said. "

is $2 Million a typical bond amount for an "average" Murder 1 case? I shouldn't think he'd be a flight risk any more than any other guy facing the same charges.

Gonna be interesting to see how this unfolds.

or ... maybe ... it could be a basic murder with no aggravating factors, and is therefore not eligible for the death penalty.

or ... maybe ... the prosecution already has going to have a hard enough time getting sufficient evidence to make a murder charge stick. throw in the death penalty, and the defense would be assured of an acquittal.

look, I'm ready to talk shit about "the man be oppressin folks" as much as anyone ... but this type kneejerk response flying in the face of facts, well it's heading towards the realm of plain and simple douchebaggery.
