so those woombie swaddlers are on sale on totsy. I do have quite a few sleep sacks but those things look like straight jackets for infants.
I don't know if this one will show up but this one looks especially to me.

Yeah.. that does NOT look like a happy baby. I know they're supposed to like being wrapped in tight (the NICU nurses taught me how to do VERY tight swaddling) but that just doesn't look comfortable.

It doesn't look comfortable to you, but then you have control of your arms and don't whack yourself in the face every 10 seconds when you'd like to be sleeping instead.

Bring on the straightjackets for newborns.

^ Me too with the swaddle blankets, but I don't like those. They look too tight, even in the legs (the ones that aren't like sleepers - otherwise it's just a sleeper you put your arms in). We use these, they keep his arms tight, but leave him plenty of room to kick (which he also loves). They are the only reason he sleeps at night. Otherwise he had a bad startle reflex and wakes himself up. He can break himself out of a normal swaddle... even a very tight one.

I have two new products I am in love with - the Moby (thank God for handsfree!) and the Fisher Price Infant to Toddler rocker. It's incline is just enough for him to sleep well but not as much as the normal bouncer so his head doesn't slump. Plus, it's bouncy chair, and rocker in one and can be converted as he gets older. It can also be made stationary so it doesn't rock. Got it as a gift and now love it. Here are three pictures of the different positions.

I have a friend with 4 kids whose youngest is 2 months old. She swears by the swaddle blanket that you are talking about. It's the only way that her little cuddle monster will actually sleep for a solid stretch without being held.

We were/are big swaddlers too. Just started swaddling him arms out about 3 weeks ago now that he's figure out how to roll over in his sleep/sleep on his tummy.

Congrats, 73! Fantastic news!

Smath - Congrats - she will have you wrapped around her finger in no time! Nothing like a daddy-daughter relationship

I swore by the Swaddle Me blankets too - the kind with the velcro was the only kind I could keep my Houdinis from getting out of.

i feel exactly like this but haven't actually puked [yet]. i've had a few hours each day since friday that i haven't felt like

i'm soooo thirsty, but everything i drink makes my stomach turn. especially water and other clear liquids. the only thing i can handle okay is chocolate milk, but i've exhausted my lactase reserves for the day. so thirsty

i would love to be able to drink more than a sip of anything besides milk right now (can't drink a whole lot of milk either). i usually drink a lot of water but just can't. definitely nothing cold or bubbly either. i don't want to take meds unless i really really have to, but if this not drinking thing continues i might have to fill that zofran rx just so i don't get dehydrated.

I'm sure you know this, but try ice and popsicles. Don't let yourself get dehydrated, it will make you feel like death. I had hyperemesis and Zofran was the only medication that took the edge off of the nausea.

Cold things aren't playing nice with my stomach and I have very sensitive teeth, but I still might try it anyway. I've tried eating crystallized ginger but that's so strong I don't think I could eat enough to see any benefit.

Thank you

Yay!

Yeah, ginger didn't really help me. For some odd reason, regular Dr. Pepper helped settle my stomach a bit, but Zofran is a miracle drug.

it's not gotten rid of the nausea 100% but close to it. i feel much better & more like a person again. it's made me a little lightheaded but i'll take that any day over nausea.

my wife has been taking zofran since just after the first few weeks... her nausea is terrible without it. (and she is about halfway through with her second trimester)

To me zofran was a miracle drug. I was throwing up 6-7 times a day without it and still working. I was miserable. I still had to take it into the third trimester occasionally, but I was so happy to have it. Took the edge off and made life bareable.

I'm not pregnant, but I loves me some zofran. The meds I'm on can cause nausea, especially in the beginning when your body is getting used to it. I got the generic Zofran and it rocks.

has anybody tried preggie pops? a girl i work with told me about them. they don't seem to contain anything special so i'm pretty skeptical. i'm still miserable in the mornings & nights, even with the zofran. i'm still not drinking enough & chris says he can tell in the skin on my hands that i'm dehydrated (not just surface dryness, but that the skin isn't as elastic). at what point do i call the doctor back?

I'm of the "call the doc as much as you want" branch. If you're concerned about fluids, I'd definitely call.

All things considered with your pregnancy, you go and call the doctors (or just Beth) as much as you friggin feel the need.

Don't be bashful.

Call. Better safe than sorry. And who cares if you're the patient who calls too much, if it makes you feel better (physically and mentally).

I tried them. They're basically just Jolly Ranchers. They worked for me but I think it had to do more with the sourness and taking my mind off being nauseous, which you could get from Jolly Ranchers for a lot cheaper. Next time around I'm going to buy a bag of Jolly Ranchers instead and see how it goes.

I used them with both pregnancies. When my vomiting wasn't in overdrive and I was just a little nauseous, I'd suck on a preggie pop. Like ^ said, the sourness is the key factor in alleviating nausea. For some reason sourness helps nausea, that's why some people suggest sucking on a lemon wedge.

According to their website, nausea can also be caused by hypoglycemia and the sugar helps.

i called the nurse. she said to sip gatorade (closest thing to a clear liquid i can sorta tolerate) every 15 mins. i'm going to have to set a timer or something bc i won't remember every 15 mins.

oyster crackers are the best thing on earth right now. i could eat my weight in them.

^ I'm sorry. I went through that and it's no fun. A combination of taking Zofran religously and seabands worked for me. I also had to eat to combat the nauseau.

I'm pretty sure that it's ok. The main ingredients are just sodium bicarbonate & calcium carbonate.

I am 100% positive that Zantac, Prilosec, Pepcid, and Prevacid are all ok to take. But only one at the time. Don't mix and match your heartburn medicine out of desperation like "a friend" of mine did.

the booklet the doc gave me said that prilosec, zantac, etc are not safe during the first trimester, but that tums are. haha i'll try not to do what your "friend" did.

Whoops. I forgot you're still in your first trimester. I didn't have problems with acid reflux until after my first trimester. Then I tried everything because I was so miserable. Even so, I think that doctors change their mind about what is safe and what isn't from year to year.

But Tums are just calcium carbonate.

None of those are expected to increase the risk of birth defects... They might just be extra cautious though

i called the doc about gaviscon this morning. they said no, but couldn't tell me why specifically. that sucks. i bought tums last night, which did neutralize acid, but didn't keep anything down in my stomach & out of my throat.

after having a full weekend w/ the nausea & now back to work, i found out that being forced to wake up early by the alarm makes me MUCH sicker in the mornings. on saturday & sunday i woke up at 9 on my own & actually felt decent until later in the day.

this is miserable. i don't know what i'm going to do for the rest of the week at work. all i have to do right now is mindless database entry stuff & so i end up just sitting here dwelling on how bad i feel. i don't even want to talk i'm so nauseated. when i do, i can't talk very loud or for very long. everything makes me nauseated; moving, most food, all drinks, temperature changes, loud noises...

i want to just ball up in the corner and cry

^^ There are other concerns than birth defects. There's a lot of pregnancy medication that can kick-start remissioned health conditions.

^ are you taking the pill form of Zofran or to disolving oral dose. If you're taking the pill you may want to ask for the dissolving kind, it's much faster acting. Just a thought.

timswar, the place I go to for teratogen exposure goes over other issues, too. Those medications didn't have any clear cut concerns for other effects during the pregnancy either. However, some doctor are just cautious because you don't want a patient to have an adverse effect then wonder if it was due to that medication or just random

i had some very slightly brown discharge on xmas eve & day, so they did an ultrasound today. a healthy teeny tiny little baby with a heartbeat & everything. so awesome. <3

we picked a first name. regardless of sex, we're naming it parker, which was my grandparents' last name. grandmommy died last august, papa died this past february. they would be so thrilled by all of this
