Can't blame him, 4* out of HS and couldn't crack our depth chart. Played 2 years on special teams.

^OOC games already schedule for

9/3 vs William and Mary
9/10 @ECU
9/17 vs ODU
10/8 vs ND

not sure when ACC schedule is released. looks like it was released late January for 2015

ACC games will be
@Clemson
FSU
@Cuse
BC
Wake
@UNC
@Louisville
and I might be wrong, but I think Miami at home...somebody can correct me if i mixed any of those up

Hot seat year.

Realistically 7 wins is the most you could expect.
8 would be great and anything better would be crown worthy.

6 is definitely likely but fireable depending on the circumstances.
Anything less than 6 is certainly fireable regardless of circumstances.

Agreed that less than 6 would really burn up the hot seat. 3-1 OOC (L to ND), and 3 ACC wins vs. Wake, BC, Cuse is easily that 6 win min. 2/3 from UNC, Louisville, Miami would show improvement (8 wins overall & 5-3 ACC record). Any big win outside of that would lock him in.

FSU might be in a small decline, could be a chance to upset them at our place.

FSU will still be more talented than Clemson. The talent not coming at qb is their only issue.

FSU won't be on a decline, I expect they'll beat Clemson next year and be gunning for a perfect season.

That ECU game may decide if we make a bowl or not. I don't see us beating Miami, UNC, FSU, Clemson, UL or ND. Honestly that is a pretty damn tough six team group especially with Miami likely to take a bounce with a better coach. All 6 could be top-25 by year end.

More of the same really, beat the bad teams, lose to the good, make a shit bowl. Rinse, repeat.

I really don't care what our schedule looks like next year. If we don't win 8 games Doeren should be on the hot seat. His 4th year, time to expect some sort of noticeable improvement.

Doeren is on the hotseat and youre right. 7 wins just extends the hotseat by 1 year with increased expectations

[Edited on January 5, 2016 at 5:17 PM. Reason : 7 could also see him fired and no one would complain]

^^the thing is, the team can show improvement next year and only win 7 games or whatever. yes, we all wanna get over the 7 win hump. but you can also look beyond just the record to see improvement (or lack of). it's difficult to really say without seeing the team and how things play out. but if the team were to win 7 games with that schedule next year, i'd venture to say that 2016's team > 2015 team

but yes, the "hot seat" label wouldn't really be out of the question or anything like that. all really depends on how it plays it out.

That POV makes sense if you're comparing year to year. But I'm looking beyond that. 2015's team regressed from 2014. They were worse, it was a step back, no one can argue that. For the 2016 team to get 7 wins would be an improvement over this year's team (due to SOS). But so what? Should we be happy that our progress is back to where the team was 2 years ago?

I don't think so.

sorry that was an emotional gut response.

i guess football is also a lot different from basketball because other players have much more of an impact on what you can do. being a te on a run heavy team is pretty pointless and learning a new offense is even more pointless so it kinda makes sense for him to leave.

Doeren just cant keep talent on the team. You don't see this happening at other programs.

well we don't really use the te. as long as he doesn't go undrafted, it won't be a big deal until he goes undrafted.

that's my guess

i don't blame grinnage at all...just wish we could've used him more/better.

bo hines is literally the only other example....and that's not DD's fault that hines apparently valued his education/career more than his football career.

it seems like talented wrs are realizing that a dominant run offense isn't the place for them. we pass like 12 times per game when things go well. thats just not a good life.

[Edited on January 6, 2016 at 2:27 PM. Reason : we don't need to pass when you run that well]

One of my biggest hopes for whoever we get at OC was that they would use Grinnage more next year. Welp.

Can't blame the guy. He barely gets used as a junior and next year we'll be breaking in a new QB and OC. Still makes zero sense why he was used so little when we had shitty WR's and a QB who couldn't throw the ball more than 15 yards down the field.

at least mckever showed flashes in the bowl game and can hopefully be a solid weapon at TE going forward.

Eh, he had one great play but it was basically a misdirection play and he was wide open, literally just had to run straight as fast as he could for a TD.

Agree that Grinnage was under-utilized, think that was probably part of the frustration with Canada, he didn't seem to use his all his weapons effectively.

It was just 1 play, but it showed us several things:

1. He's intelligent and picked up the offense fast. If he wasnt up to speed, the coaches would never have let him on the field.

2. He's fast. He caught the ball out in the flat and outran the DB's 60+ yards.

^^Yeah, when McKever caught the ball, I thought there was no way he outruns the MSU secondary for a TD. The safety had an angle on him, but McKever just blew right past him.

Reminded me of Usain Bolt a little. He doesn't look like he's moving that fast, but he's outrunning everybody on the field. Must have crazy-long strides.
