Theres probably a slew of threads in all the shooting/carry forums but after a while every thread either wasnt pertinent to NC or went off on a tangent of "I think but could be wrong" theoretical answers; I got a rather simple question. For those of you with cans that eventually moved within NC but to different counties, what were the requirements to legally move with them? 12/22/2013 1:26:30 PM |

NRR, as far as the list of can-friendly sheriffs goes, one of the forums I came across from a year or two ago talked specifically about that for my same question. Apparently there was a list but it got redacted or taken down by the forum because they thought it could lead to the 2A friendly departments getting inundated once word got out which sounded like there was some actual plausibility from several forum members' experiences. Also, there was some fear from the sheriffs signing off on these in democrat leaning counties could get shitcanned or heavy anti-propaganda at next election once the county gov or liberal base were aware of this capability by the sheriff. Makes sense but sure doesnt make it easy for those of us who might move every once in a while. 12/22/2013 8:28:51 PM |

my Savage 93 in .22 WMR is probably my most fun rifle to shoot. relatively quiet, no recoil, extremely accurate, but i can't find any ammo for it and i'm down to 65-70 rds of the Hornady stuff that it shoots so well. the only .22 WMR i can find is CCI maximags and such and you can only buy them 1 box at a time from cabela's. the rifle doesn't usually like them that much, but i've ordered 4 boxes economically by combining them with other items i need and using free shipping codes and such.
anyway, long story short, i am seeing plenty of .17 HMR for good prices, so, naturally, i ordered a 93 in .17 HMR from Bud's and a Mueller APV and DNZ mount from Optics Planet (10% off at O.P. right now). i've always wanted a .17 and i figure it should be similar enough that i can get my fix of easy-shooting accuracy to 200 yds.
i was also pleasantly surprised to find that there is a Bud's preferred FFL in Wilmington that only charges $15 for a transfer. half the price of the next cheapest preferred FFL and no phone calls and emails to hand-off fax numbers and all that annoyance. 12/31/2013 1:42:57 AM |

Around $1000 is what I would expect for a Colt. The M&P will be fine depending on what you are using it for, personally, I would spend the extra coin for a Colt. Will you ever see the difference? Perhaps not. Will the Colt hold its value better? Yup.
I am more of an AR snob but for nothing else the Colt will always be easier to sell and hold its value better than the M&P, that alone is enough for me to say get the Colt if you have the funds.1/2/2014 8:14:39 PM |

or just fluff?

it won't make any difference in function. if you like the way it looks, pay the extra. i'd save my money so i could put on a free float tube. that's the biggest accuracy improvement you can make on an AR.

is this legit? I know the guy could build something good (he is a competitive shooter, and is about 1.5 years into starting his own company), I'm just new to the AR game and don't know what half of this means and if what he is saying is worth it. i've put together a few uppers now. it takes a few special tools, but anyone with google and enough mechanical knowledge to change a tire can do it. the only thing that's really gonna affect accuracy is a high quality barrel. as long as you're buying stuff that's milspec (i hate using that term), an upper receiver is an upper receiver, a BCG is a BCG, and so on. i have no idea what that rail is worth. 1/4/2014 11:00:48 PM |

Anyone seen the Sig M400 pistol with an 11 inch barrel and "stabilizing brace?"
Basically youre supposed to strap the thing to your wrist or forearm and the ATF says thats completely fine, but its shaped like a stock...
Basically if you shoulder it youre then committing a felony-
It even ships with a letter that says its legal in its current configuration without a SBR tax stamp.
Lots of interesting messageboard debate on this one! 1/4/2014 11:49:46 PM |

not true
the law is based on if it's "designed to be fired from the shoulder", not how you actually fire it. it's perfectly legal.1/5/2014 12:01:03 AM |

I can't remember what I spent on my upper and can't browse Rainier because apparently the wifi at heathrow blocks gun sites (in the London airport) but that doesn't seem too far off depending on the barrel he is using. I would just get in Rainier and price one out or if you are looking for a match upper just get one of their custom upper builds. You can't hardly build it for what they sell them for and the parts they use are absolutely top notch. 1/5/2014 8:00:24 AM |

^^I was wondering if someone else shared that opinion.
For example ive seen people at the range with AR pistols stick the buffer tube under their pits, and although I havent seen it, whats to stop you from holding any handgun to your shoulder?
Im sure people do it.
Anyway, the wrist brace idea seems very silly. Its a neat length for that gun, but 11 inches seems like it would kill velocity/tumble, and be very loud. 1/5/2014 7:43:18 PM |

Yeah sarge told me and ar pistol is ok but if you shoulder it even if it's a bare buffer tube you can be charged... Whether it sticks or not is another story but I wouldn't take the chance.
Basically he said if you shoulder it then you built it with intent to shoulder it. 1/5/2014 9:07:24 PM |

I've never heard about any issues with shouldering a buffer tube, but putting a forward grip on one is a big no-no. I don't understand why a forward grip is frowned upon when you can basically do the same thing with the magazine housing, but then again I think the concept of NFA items is a joke anyway. 1/5/2014 9:38:07 PM |

A vertical grip is a no no, but one of those angled grips is ok.

you can put a VFG on an AR pistol if it's over 26" overall length and you don't conceal it on your person

A good friend of mine just got done going through the ringer with ATF over a mini-draco that he modified with a rail system and put an angled grip on. They claimed the angled grip changed the gun away from being designed to be fired from a single hand, thus making it an NFA item.
The charges might have been trumped up because other law enforcement agencies wanted leverage on him for a plea deal, but ATF didn't differentiate between a vertical grip and an angled grip.
