I wish they put sapphire glass for the actual screen. Wouldn't scratch at all. Believe it's too thick though.

I've owned nothing but android phones since the first one came out but now I've also been given an iP4S from work. I'm a little irritated at the lack of standard user options but like the interface so forgive me if I newb this thread back up a little. Is there any way to change the screen to stay on only when charging such as to see battery status or monitor emails/texts as they come while driving but not having to actually interface with the phone? Our admin locks don't allow any unapproved apps and jailbreaking is certainly out of the question. Keeping the screen to always on obviously kills the battery quick. Even so and coming from android, I don't like buying apps with my own money for a phone my company can track or wipe at will. They just pushed iOS6 out to us on these phones if it helps.

Emails & texts pop up in the lock screen already. I'm not sure why you'd need to just watch the battery charge. Am I missing something?

Yeah I get that, but while I'm driving I cant hear the notifications half the time between the road noise, radio, and paying attention to driving in general until I get to some open road or a stoplight. As for the battery status, I guess I meant more like the home screen while charging on my RAZR that shows battery status, time, notifications, alarms, etc. while charging without even picking up the phone and just glancing at the screen as i use it for my alarm clock.

You could do Settings>General>AutoLock>Never, and it will stay on like you described..However, you will have to manually lock it every time it is off charge by pressing the power button. Another option is to install one of the alarm apps and turn it on every time you need the phone to stay on.

If you jailbreak, there are apps that do exactly what you want, ie turn on customized home screen and stay on while charging, but looks like that is not an option for you.

How is the battery life for you guys? I've been using my 5 for about a week and the battery life isn't as good as I the 4 was. One thing that is irritating is it seems to be very slow at charging. It takes forever to get back to 100%.

^it's not as good as my 4. i loved the 4 for how well the battery stood up.

i was really disappointed in the 5's battery life at first, but that was because I got it on a Friday and played with it all weekend draining the battery with apps i normally don't use that often.

now that i'm back to my regular use, i can get about two days of use out of it. It's usually down to 5% when I plug it in at bedtime at the end of the second day.

Have had my 5 since launch day and haven't had a hitch *knock on wood*. The battery life is better than my 4s. Maybe because the battery in my 4s had lost some efficiency over a year's time.

Also, I sold my 4s 16gb for $325 the next day on craig's list.. Guy met me at the verizon store to verify the phone was legit and could be activated and then paid me $325 cash right in the store.

Man, my iPhone 4 is still on iOS 4. The problem is that I don't have a Mac and I don't have a Windows computer, and there is no iTunes for Linux...so I can't upgrade.

I'm [still] waiting on the release of the new iMac, and looking forward to it, among other reasons, so I can update iOS on my phone! If it doesn't get a Retina display, though, I'm gonna say fuck it and buy a cheap Windows computer, because my little netbook needs to be replaced, anyway.

And I've owned sure se535s for a while which only sounded bad when my body had internal noises affect them like foot steps or chewing but since these aren't air tight they don't amplify those noises. Now if they would just stay in my fucking ears when I run.

You're still within your 30 day purchase period for buying a squaretrade warranty. You could always buy one of those (I think there was a code to get it for $65) and then there's a $50 deductible, so that's $115 total for a new phone. It's hardly ideal, but if Apple is going to charge you any more than that it's something to consider.

yep.

i ended up swapping it out for more money than i wanted to spend although still a reduced price for the phone by coupling it with applecare+. with my apparent butter fingers and toddler, having it is probably a good idea anyway. the store i went to (crabtree; i was their first cracked screen) didn't have display replacements yet and didn't know when they would get them. i was losing shards, cutting myself in the process, and the screen was getting worse, so i went ahead and did it. hindsight i would have rather done ^ (didn't see your post til now--long after i left) or borrowed a phone until displays were available. but it's done *shrug*

an otterbox is on its way.
