1) Many are designed to work that way

2) They're much more interesting than stuff you have to do

3) It sounds like you don't have anything more pressing to do (nowhere you need to be, no deadlines)

I agree with such n' such. It's not necessarily addiction until it interferes with work. You might want to take some steps to give yourself more discipline though. Set a timer/alarm. Make sure you don't turn on the system if there are things that need doing. Restrict your playing to more leisurely times.

I can play for hours without realizing when I'm really immersed, so I don't turn it on if I need to grade/it's the middle of the week/I have somewhere to be somewhere.

video games have to be used as a reward system just like anything else that can get out of hand. make sure you get your shit done first then reward yourself with an hour or so of game time.
