absolutely.

it will be interesting to hear how many boos ring out tonight. there was a pretty loud chorus of boos during the Youngstown State game, but depending on the size of the massacre tonight, it could surpass it.

I do think that Lowe looks pretty silly when he's standing on the sideline 95% of the time. Looks like he has not a clue what's going on, waving his arms and whistling in a frenzy.

I got a weird feeling we might win tonight.

I just hope that we win and it gives our team confidence and momentum to actually do something in this fucking horrible conference this year.

But if we win, then continue to fuck around the rest of the year and miss the tournament, and we use the, "Well we beat #1 Duke two years in a row (I know they aren't #1 now), this team is getting the right amount of talent!" type excuses...then I will be pissed.

nah, not really. i was there, and while there were some boos, it wasnt' a "pretty loud chorus", as you suggest, and i think the short-lived booing was mainly directed at the players' poor performance in the first half. i actually let out a boo when we were down 3-21.

man, your agenda is so obvious. you really hate sid, don't you? you really want him fail and get booed, don't you?

Don't like the fact that people are booing him. Back in the day I could understand booing. The AD wouldn't make a move short of a lunatic fringe showing up at his front door with torches and pitch forks. Booing was the result of witnessing a clueless administration. Maybe some people thought that booing would clue them in.

Support the team and the coach. I've got to have faith that the new AD will make the right call in light of the actual production and after weighing available options.

from lower level (sec. 119), it was pretty significant. nothing like the Amato years, but the old dudes around me were definitely letting him have it. and, you're exactly right, it was all in the first half.

i like sid as a person. i think he's a really nice guy. i saw most of what i needed to see from him in year 2 and have been ready for him to go since the end of year 2. so, i am obviously very ready for him to move on by now since he continues to be a dreadful and under-achieving coach.

i should probably re-phrase that ---- i have known since the end of year 2 that he wasn't going to get it done, but obviously would never push to remove a coach before his 4th year. i think most anyone who has ever played organized ball could watch our team defense and complete disarray on offense, as well as our complete collapses in many games where Lowe got pwnt by an opposing coach and failed to adjust, his obvious inability to handle personalities that we saw in year 2, and his bat shit crazy substitution patterns. and realize early on how terribad he was.

the only reason i can possibly fathom some of y'all supporting him so much now is nostalgia (ie. what he did for us 30 years ago). i honestly can't see what anyone else sees in the dude. recruiting + nostalgia.... that's it.

Booing at a college game is pretty sad. First, even if you say you're booing the coach, the players can't discern that. Second, it just looking fucking horrible from an outsider's point of view, and we don't need that kind of attention on our program. We already look shitty enough on the basketball court, no need to make it look even worse.

Protest your displeasure by not showing up for the game, stop giving money to the Wolfpack Club, write a letter to Debbie, etc. But don't boo at the games.

That's borderline okay for that clown...and also because booing his jiffy lube ad cannot be confused with booing the actual team.

I almost drunkenly punched a dude who booed for Jay Davis at the Miami/ESPN gameday game a few years back. It was probably because he thought Stone could do a better job moreso than him actually booing a player...which is still just wrong.

I almost did the exact same thing at the exact same game

Right during the t-shirt toss

Also, Jay Davis' girlfriend lived across from me at University Woods and several times he was booed in our parking lot

They weren't #1 when we beat them last year. The game tonight rests on us being able to keep our bigs out of foul trouble. It being Duke, I expect 2 fouls on Smith well before the halfway point of the first half. Leslie will probably get a technical.

So you made your mind up on a coach after 2 seasons? Sounds really reasonable. It is also really funny that you made your mind up after a season in which our starting PG was out with a knee injury. It was a miserable season but I think most people understood using a mixture of Fells, Grant, Johnson, and Gonzalez at the point wasn't going to get good results in the ACC.

We have had poor PG play the entire time Lowe has been here (our best play was from a converted SG with half a hamstring). It could be on Lowe or it could be that the players we have had playing point are injured/shitty. We will know by the end of this season because finally there is talent at the position.

They won the national championship genius. Hence the several "we beat the best team in the country last year" statements I've seen from many ardent Sidney supporters this year.

Which has also brought out the "they just beat the #1 team" comments after we got bitch-slapped by FSU.

I fucking hate those comments.

^That wasn't my point Corky.

I'm saying I just don't like the comments about "beating a #1 team." It fucking happens...it doesn't automatically make your team credible. There are several factors that go into every win/loss. Some teams match-up better, the better team could have a bad shooting night, the lesser team could just go unconscious and everything just goes right.

Our Les Robinson teams were horrible, yet we managed to consistently get wins over much better UNC teams. That didn't make Les a great coach. And I bet it didn't make other teams feel any better when they lost to a Les Robinson-led State team because "hey, they just beat UNC." It's fucking horrible excuse to feel better about a loss.

srs question.

what have you seen this year, with a senior level point guard that he has had 4 years to groom and an outstanding freshman pg, that makes you think the remainder of this season will be any different?

the recruiting argument is a strong one for keeping lowe, but it was also used to keep Hreb. a good carpenter doesn't blame his tools, and that's what it comes down to with me. i don't even see any evidence of lowe coaching them up, regardless of their perceived talent level out of h.s. (in javi's case).

If you almost punched/tackled students running down to rush the court six years ago when we were beating a top 5 Wake Forest team with less than a minute left...then we could be separated at birth.

i see evidence of every non-freshman player improving over the years, some more than others. do you disagree? is that "coaching them up"? the javi argument is very old. he was never expected to be an all-acc pg. he's much better than he was a freshman. but he's not great, and he's still very insconsistent. and he seems to have regressed some this year, so far. i have a hard time blaming sid for that.

I usually stay away haggling opposing fans unless they are talking to shit to me and we are actually winning. Since that doesn't happen much, I don't get a lot of practice at it.

I did make several UNC fans cry at a game in the Dean Dome during the Doherty/Hodge era. I was in the student section and was getting verbally abused pretty hard the entire game. Then Hodge hit a tame tying jumper at the top of the key to send it it to overtime and we pretty much took control after that. They regretted giving me a hard time during the game...and my UNC friend regretted hooking me up with the ticket.

It does automatically increase the credibility of your team in the eyes of selection/ ranking but I get your point. There are fluke wins/ losses. I would say that the FSU Duke game wasn't a fluke though FSU beat their ass on the boards and inside pretty thoroughly.

Javi isn't wasn't and would never be an ACC caliber PG. Undersized freshmen PG's who didn't play defense in HS take time to develop. IF this season doesn't turn around I will be in the Lowe isn't the coach for us bandwagon but I am giving it till the end of the season given the youth of our team.

players are going to gradually get better as they age, regardless of coach. (javi's regression this season aside)

by "coaching them up", for clarity, i also mean the teams don't improve or don't play above their talent levels, ever.

t-10th
t-11th (actually 12th, which is why we didn't play in the acc/big ten challenge)
10th
t-9th (but by tiebreaker, i think we were 10th or 11th)

same shit, every year, even with players he has had multiple years to work with, and adjust to "his system".... whatever that system is. horrible defense and lack of an efficient offense seem to be his system.

maybe the herb years werent super great, but they were better than now. i was a "full out" duke fan till i came to state, now this is the game that makes my head hurt. finishing over .500 in the ACC isnt all we want, but its a step that has to be taken to reach higher things.

of course, the perceived pressure surrounding our program for supposedly running off hreb also hurt our prospects, imho. (that + fowler).

now, no coach would blame us for canning lowe after these results and we have a legit AD running the search.

Eh, we're getting way, way off track here... but I disagree. Relevant =/ elite. We were certainly on the national scene, especially when Julius was in school. We weren't a laughingstock and we were very competitive in a strong ACC.

To Ernie's point, a lot of people are just happy that he left and could not care less what the new coach did (though, to be fair, a lot of those kooks are on Pack Pride).
