this movie moves into 2nd in my fav. star wars film, still behind Empire, but better than the others
yea, i got caught up in the hype and the hysteria, i'm not a fanboy who thinks i have better ideas than george lucas, and i ignore everything written in the books, regardless as to whether or not lucas "approved" it. i enjoy them as movies, and thats about as far as it goes.
the sheer intensity of the duels, and the ginormous landscape of the space battles, along with so much anticipation all meshed very well to create one helluva movie experience.
i got my money's worth. a great ending to a great group of movies.
bravo, mr. lucas. bravo. 5/22/2005 8:11:45 PM |

From imdb:
Padme: We used to come here for school retreat. We would swim to that island every day. I love the water. We used to lie out on the sand and let the sun dry us and try to guess the names of the birds singing. Anakin: I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth.

finally got around to seeing it yesterday. first chance i got. as with most of you in here ive been a huge fan of the original trilogy since the first time my dad let me watch it.
And, while this was the best of the original 3, this new trilogy definitely leaves so much to be desired. For me, mainly the technology bothered me a lot. Not that Lucas himself should not have used new technology but that (as many have critiqued already) the technology from the first 3 movies does not match up with the new movies at all to me. the bustling cities with all those ships and stuff didnt seem to match
now obviously you can say 'well they just didnt go to any of those big cities in the original 3" but i dono it just didnt sit with me well. all the interiors of the ships and the ships operating screens seemed like years after the original trilogy not before.
anywho about this specific movie:
it had its moments. obi-wan and anakin's duel was done well i thought. It was the one lightsaber duel that reminded me of the originals..mainly because it was so dark. Also i think i liked it because of what it was. Its only about one of the most famous lightsaber duels out of all 6 movies and was going to be for me i knew even before i saw it.
other than that most of the duels were "yaawwn" to me.
seeing Vader was good. The one segment out of ALL 3 original movies that felt like old Lucas was the section with Vader on the ship at the end with the crew in the 4-6 style uniforms (where did those come from..they just randomly appeared on all the crew members but it looked good) one of the worst lines in the movie was Vader's "noooooooooooooo!". he sounded like a pansy to me plus it seemed like a really awkward scene
i thought the cast for Obi-Wan proved to be the best in this movie. He reminded me of basically what i would imagine a young Obi-Wan to be..maybe just not as wise as he should have been.
Palpatine was solid as well of course.
it was great to finally see the end tho. It was kind of exciting even knowing what was happening to see Vader, and Luke and Leia being born, and Tatooine again and all. Def made me want to go watch the original 3 again. 5/23/2005 8:27:19 AM |

There has been a lot of brouhaha about the similarities between the rhetoric of the Bush Administration and some of the logic that the Sith Lord and Anakin/Vader use in the film, and of course there are many. The idea behind the first three films certainly aren't a far cry (at least, politically) from what's happening currently in our country. However, Lucas says that he wrote the scripts in the 1970s, and I'm sure that's true... though the fact that Anakin says "If you're not with me, you're with the enemy" makes me think that some last-minute changes, certainly made to the script before it went into production, included some updating to make a point.
However, don't forget that George Bush isn't the first world leader to use the kind of logic he uses, and he won't be the last. It doesn't have to be a statement against the Bush Administration in general as much as a statement against all Orwellian regimes of the past and future.
After being pretty disappointed with Episode I and happy but not enthralled with II, I'm glad to say that I was pretty excited at the end of Star Wars III, "Revenge Of The Sith." Whereas Episode I suffered from really corny dialogue and Jar Jar Binks' very existence, and Episode II had to endure Anakin's crappy little rat tail and too many fight scenes, Episode III was a perfect balance of dialogue, intrigue, fighting, and a really good plot connection between III and IV. <b>*Warning*</b> While I don't think there are any actual spoilers here, don't read it if you don't want to know anything at all about the film. becomes Darth Vader. Oops!
There were some corny scenes and definitely some corny dialogue. The love scenes were really crappy, and there was the extremely hackneyed 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' Luke and Leigha were given names far too quickly, considering that Padme didn't know she was having twins (at least as far as we were ever told) and also didn't know it would be a boy and a girl. She just gave them the first names that came to mind as soon as they popped out.
However, Lucas neatly wrapped up the ending to bring the whole thing full circle. The most chilling part of the film was Darth Vader, fully donned now in his life-support suit, breathing in his familiar manner, followed by the first time (chronologically) that James Earl Jones' voice booms through its mouthpiece.
The main question is this: If you're going to watch all 6 movies, say.... what order do you watch them in? Obviously they go in order from I to VI, but the first three take away every possible surprise from the last three...

But say to my kids who will have never seen any of them starting from I would ruin (in my opinion)one of THE BEST shockers in movie history. the whole darth vader being luke's father thing. i think i will have my kids watch 4-6 then 1-3 5/23/2005 9:37:57 AM |

def. like i said he was definitely one of the best things from I-III. in III his character really matched look and feel of what Obi-Wan would really be like.
i do like how the star wars arent direct sequels of each other. i think all 1-6 seems so epic now because it covers a lot more time than most series and trilogies. most sequels and trilogies start and pick up directly from the previous one whereas these movies covered long times. that appeals to me for some reason.
now this may have been discussed in this thread already but does anyone else feel like Anakin is almost the main character in the whole 6 part installment now? the whole series starts with not exactly his birth but still him as a child. and ends with his death. i thought that was kind of interesting...even tho i knew thats how it was going to be back before even EpI came out. i was just sitting back thinking about it yesterday after the movie. 5/23/2005 9:45:24 AM |

It's not true. Not at all. It's so clearly not true that Lucas isn't even the credited screenwriter of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and only co-wrote RETURN OF THE JEDI.
At best, he had a brief outline of the overall story, but Lucas didn't even decide to make Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker the same person until after STAR WARS was finished.
Lucas didn't sit down to write REVENGE OF THE SITH until after he was done with ATTACK OF THE CLONES. You don't think the near vanishing of Jar Jar wasn't heavily influenced by fan reaction to THE PHANTOM MEANCE?5/23/2005 9:50:46 AM |

^^ I think it just kind of happened. Everyone was naturally drawn to the Vader character. I mean, there really isn't any other character that can hold a whole 6 part story together.
^ I love how Jar Jar disappeared.

the new emperor scene in Empire where he says Luke is Anakin's son really doesn't make sense because Vader says that they have to find "Skywalker" at the very beginning of the movie. If he calls him Skywalker, shouldn't he assume that that's his son?
its ridiculous how many inconsistancies there are in the original trilogy now
on a totally unrelated note, it's just weird watching yoda pretending to be an old crazy senile yoda 5/23/2005 12:40:41 PM |

Maybe Vader thinks it COULD be his son, but he's not sure. And maybe he's playing dumb with the Emperor in the hopes of overthrowing him. 5/23/2005 12:58:33 PM |

The emperor knew about Padme.
The emperor knew Anakin skywalker
The emperor was smart enough to overthrow an entire republic and decieve all of the Jedi.
I think its safe to say the "skywalker" reference is a plot inconsistency. 5/23/2005 1:07:52 PM |

I really wonder what Anakin would've been like if he had reached his full potential. Of course, that's the real trick to Episode III. You don't want to see things fall apart. An alternate universe Star Wars movie could be AWESOME done correctly (in other words, sans Lucas).
But it'll probably never happen (and for good reason).
