I am amazed that my friend who took the bar this year is getting paid less than I do She's been telling me for awhile the job market for law jobs in the Triangle blows but I didnt realize it was that bad. 9/28/2009 7:05:58 PM |

i really, really, really, really hate school. like, really. i didn't mind 2L year as much (well except for the complete shattering of my entire life, but that had nothing to do with law school). but now i'm so ready to be done. i can't even think about graduating and studying for the bar - i don't think i'll make it. i'm completely out of motivation.
especially because i have ummm 2 exams this semester. one is open note and one is take home. then i just have papers. so i can't even bring myself to pay attention in most of my classes.
and i think i've read a total of like 100 pages this semester. ok maybe a little more - maybe 200. but not much more than that. how to motivate myself to make it through this year??? 9/29/2009 9:52:58 PM |

You're on your last year? Well WTF. I thought that was the happy year. I walk over a bridge across 16th street every day on my way to school. I'm just hoping my 1st year doesn't will me to jump before the end of this semester. 9/29/2009 10:51:19 PM |

I might have my hands in too many cookie jars this year. My schedule is hectic as hell. But all is well that ends well...now I just need to find that salaried job before taking the bar. 10/2/2009 11:48:26 AM |

My last year was cake. Teachers don't really seem to give a fuck. You get a decent amount of take home exams...or no exams at all. I also had reduced hours after taking an externship and one summer class. So 12 hour semesters were nice. The school seems to know that you're getting ready for the Bar exam and scrambling to find some employment and generally take it easy on you.
But that's just my experience. 1st year, not so bad. 2nd year, sucked. 3rd year...cake. Studying for Bar exam...shoot me in the face. 10/2/2009 12:29:55 PM |

mine was 1st year sucked, 2nd year not that bad (liked my classes) 3rd year sucks
but that is prolly because i have to take 18 hours both semesters in order to BARELY be able to graduate 10/2/2009 1:11:43 PM |

soooo
im done with my personal statement and all my apps and everything is turned in except for one letter of recommendation
on Aug 10th i asked my prof for one and said id be applying early October and we went back and forth a few time catching up and she said ok so i sent her the LSAC form
on Sept. 26th i just sent her an update that said i hope classes are doing well and listed the schools id be applying to and then said i hoped to be able to turn them in in the next two weeks
still havent heard back anything since Aug. 11th...do I send another update or no? I'd really like to get these out since my GPA isn't great and I want to be read before most applicants 10/7/2009 2:41:50 PM |

Get on her. If she couldn't or didn't want to do it, then she shouldn't have agreed to it in the first place.
I would harass the shit out of her (in a nice way of course). 10/7/2009 5:02:18 PM |

Teachers are busy, and they are forgetful. Send her another reminder, and give her a specific date you would like it by. Ask her to let you know when she's sent it in so you can stop bugging her. Then also ask her if there's any information she still needs to complete it. 10/7/2009 5:24:01 PM |

^ good luck that sounds tough. I'm a 3L but I'm currently trying to get into the UF Tax LL.M program for next year. I'm getting very sick of school in general (not to mention LS itself), since that would put me at 22 straight yrs of education and 8 years of post HS. Hopefully the damn economy/job market improves for us all by then and asap, it'll be good to make some $$ finally after all of this work.

i had to withdraw from last semester and was only able to finish 2 courses. i begged them to let me finish 3 but they thought if did poorly it would reflect badly on the school.
i made As in the ones i finished. grrrrr!!
the worst part is i was in class for like 2/3 of the course. if i could just study and take the exam(s) i bet i'd do fine.
though it isn't a HUGE deal cause i need 90 hours to graduate and the 17 hours i need to take next semester to accomplish that would be really hard to get from 1 and 2 hour elective courses. i'd have like 10 classes and always be in class!

I'm really frustrated with my contracts class. I can't stand it, my professor sucks (she gives us fucking VOCABULARY quizzes... WTF?) - I mean, it's as boring as a topic can get for me, and the woman just makes it so much worse.
Contracts isn't rocket science, it's just annoying as fuck. 11/14/2009 7:29:53 PM |
slamjamason All American 1833 Posts user info edit post |
Contracts quizzes sounds like a huge pile of shit. Is that part of the grade?
My contracts prof may be my favorite, mainly because he doesn't give a shit about the topic and wants us to just argue and debate for the whole two hours about random other things 11/15/2009 12:24:05 AM |
terpball All American 22489 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, we end up getting off topic in class constantly, I know farm animals have become the topic of discussion at least twice.
Also, of course we know what the fucking terms mean - but the woman wants us to learn the definitions words for word according to Black's Law Dictionary, or else she has to agree with the definition. It's all very stupid. Our "Quizzes" end up like 20 or 30 % of our grade. She doesn't know what the fuck she's doing. 11/15/2009 8:35:06 AM |
Gzusfrk All American 2988 Posts user info edit post |
That's crazy. And this doesn't have anything to do with your situation, other than that it's about Contracts. Our professor was pretty great--he had a way of making a dull subject interesting. But he left UNC for some school in Washington State this semester because his wife got a job out there. The students he's teaching now have been facebooking his old students (my class) from UNC to try and get outlines and old exams. How shady is that? 11/15/2009 11:18:11 AM |
terpball All American 22489 Posts user info edit post |
LOL - typical. I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing. It's about the only thing you CAN do to get a leg up while you're in law school that the ABA doesn't frown upon. 11/15/2009 5:02:28 PM |

No, it's rare that you'd get called up in front of the class actually. It could happen though, if he's trying to prove a point in a certain way. And if you don't know your shit, the class will learn the lesson at your expense. 11/18/2009 9:49:05 PM |

Can't seem to get motivated to study this year...maybe because I hate, HATE, two of my classes - secured transactions and payment systems. I did not come to law school to practice commercial/business law. Get me the fuck out of these classes with the curve (B-) and I will jump for joy.
Taking the NC bar, probably going to take barbri...I talked with our bar prep prof and he made a good point...this is one of the first years kaplan has done the state specific stuff, why be their guinea pigs?
Ohh yeah, if you aren't started filling out the NC bar app...good luck getting it in on time. It's a bear.

because they've done it in other states so i don't consider myself a guinea pig
its cheaper and imo you get more for your money, so i'm excited about that
i don't think the NC bar app is THAT bad.
does barbri do the money back guarantee, too?
PS i, too LOATHE secured transactions

uh i better hear back before april and may. if im moving i need to make those plans...
i was thinking february at the absolute latest and then waitlist after that if it happens.
i thought the first decision date is mid december? or is that for people who applied to that one school and will get locked in if they apply cause i sent out all of mine a few weeks ago.

No, I meant the first "decision" deadline they offer for regular admission.
I heard back from 2 schools early April. 1 school late April (sent an email) and one school I didn't hear back from until July.
Where are you applying? I mean, places like UNC/Duke aren't going to send out responses before late spring. 12/2/2009 4:57:09 PM |

Elon, Central, Campbell, UNC, UGA, Franklin Pierce.
I havent quite figured out what order they all are in but UNC tops the list so thats good to know, its also the one I think leastly likely to accept me so if I hear back from all others first I'll make sure to have a backup plan 12/2/2009 5:01:43 PM |

^I chose UNC. They are the ones that sent the email and had the computer malfunction. PM me if you want any information on the school. I'm a 2L now. After next week, I'll be halfway done!! The other schools I applied to were USC, WFU, and Duke (last one I heard from). So, that should give you a relative time for when you can expect to hear. Also, most schools will list on their website when people can expect an answer. 12/2/2009 5:05:20 PM |
