I am suffering through post-concert depression now.

I'm still amazed by last nights show. Holy shit. Definitely the 2nd best concert of my entire life.

Radiohead in Philly last summer--- they played at the Tower Theatre which only holds about 4,000 people.

I've seen Radiohead a few times, but that show was on another level due to the intimate venue. Same goes for the Pumpkins shows.

Definitely--- I was comparing my experience w/ Radiohead in Philly vs. other times I've seen Radiohead, not the latest Pumpkins show.

All I'll say is, your jaw will probably hit the floor when you go thru the ticket line, round the corner to the stage area and see how absolutely tiny it is and how close you're going to be able to get to the Pumpkins.

I never waited for beer, either. One recomendation, and it's something I did both nights--- stand under the giant fan. (unless you're trying to get up front or something). It's seriously about 10 degrees cooler there than in the rest of the venue.

Yeah, they seriously have about 10 bartenders and the longest I was up there either night was about 2 to 3 minutes and that was during a set break. The bar is really big, so folks tend to spread out around and they have such a large wait staff that it's incredibly efficient. Reasonably priced as well... $3 for about a 12 oz cup outside, and then a bit cheaper on the inside. Wine is 4.75, iirc.

I was with a different friend of mine each night and we were about halfway back, directly underneath the fan and in dead center in front of the lead mic. Several times, I left the spot, grabbed us 2 drinks and then came back. Everyone is/was pretty laid back and chill... I guess they know you were there first and didn't want to be dicks to snatch up a spot as soon as you walk off for a drink. I never had any issues with it.

Also, it says they serve one drink at a time, but they sold me two the entire night on Wednesday night. On Tuesday night, I initially made the mistake of asking if I could have two instead of just ordering two, and I had to call my buddy in the crowd and have him hold his arm up.

I was in line at 7:50 each night and I ended up halfway back and dead center in front of the mic both times. Not a bad seat in the place.

The giant fan FTW!

I definitely stood under it the whole time and it was pleasant.

And hey, which one of you asked two dudes in line if they were from the wolf web? It was a shorter, thin guy with longer brown-ish hair. You were just about to enter the ticket area I think.

Anyways, so I just got back from the 6/27 concert and it was definitely excellent. I would totally agree with whoever recommended sitting down as much as possible before the show starts and even during the small intermission. And it was indeed very loud, but not the loudest I've been to. They had earplugs though, for those who wanted them.

Overall, I really like The Orange Peel. Fantastic venue. I think I'll be going back. And for anyone who cares, my friend and I stayed at Bon Paul and Sharky's Hostel on Haywood Rd.

http://www.bonpaulandsharkys.com/

It was ~21 a person. Everyone I met was fairly nice, the bathroom is relatively clean. The major downside is lack of AC, although it is fairly cool at night in Asheville...and the bunk beds weren't the most comfortable. But I didn't care after standing for 4-5hrs. It was no more than 6-7 minutes from the hostel to The Orange Peel.

Anyways, I couldnt believe they played the aeroplane flies high, my fav song, I about blew a load in my pants.

I hung out back after the show and had face to face conversations with BOTH Ginger AND BILLY FUCKING CORGAN. HE TALKED TO ME.
I was shaking real bad because I was nervous and awestruck, he seemed to be really cool, and it was awesome that he came over to talk to us. Monday night im bringing my camera so I can get my pic with him.

I was very impressed with the Orange Peel Krewe on the 26th. They came around a couple of hours before the show began and checked to make sure everyone was on the list for that night, went ahead and checked everyones IDs, and actually started letting people in at 7:30ish. During the actual show a couple of the krewe members circulated throughout the crowd and took out a couple of the people who were way too drunk and trying to start moshing. For those of us who were in the front rows, a couple of the staff members would pass out water to the crowd so we wouldn't have to leave our spots.

^ They make you empty your pockets and hold everything in your hands. They then pat you down...thoroughly... they will also look thru your cigs if you're carrying any.

No metal detectors, but I don't think you'll sneak a flask in after they get done with the pat down. (if that's the metal object you're concerned about )

i don't know what venues you're going to. but this is about the largest "club" stye music venue i ever go to. of course it's smaller than stadiums and theaters. but it is neither of these things.

^ It doesn't have as much to do with the size of the Orange Peel as it does with the band playing in the venue.

Think about it--- when, since about 1994, would you have been able to catch the fucking Pumpkins anywhere with less than 1,000 people.

I normally go to shows at the Cradle and 506, but for a band this popular, to see them in a venue of comparable size is fucking unbelievable.

yeah i saw that too. but i'm guessing cat's cradle just crams people in more than orange peel will. certainly far more people can be in the "show" area at orange peel than cat's cradle.

Nah, I didn't take it like that, I just had no idea they played the Cradle in 2000 (I had left NC for post graduate studies by then).

I thought I was fortunate to see them at Ovens in C-lotte in '98 w/ a few thousand people after they had played a huge venue like the Dean Dome 2 years prior to that.

Dayum... I would've loved to have seen them at the Cradle.

I don't know about the physical size, but teh Peel holds about 950-ish to Cat's Cradle's 740-ish (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

The Orange Peel is a shitload nicer, though.

i was disappointed somewhat, alot of the softer stuff and acoustic, id prefer if he just did one set of like 5 acoustics or something.

we only got 1 encore, they had everyone cheering for like 2-3 mins for the 2nd encore then all of the sudden they just decided to turn the lights on like billy was like fuck it, im not doing another one

the show was good and it was fun again, i wanna hear the pumpkins rock and roll

i was really disappointed in the setlist as far as we didn't get any of these songs tonight:
- gossamer
- starz (favorite new one)
- silverfuck
- today
- 1979

i guess theres always tonight

I really enjoyed this show! I believe I've been to BETTER shows, but I've never seen anyone rock so fucking hard.

Cherub rock brought down the house, and starla was absolutely rockin' as well. I was shocked by starla, actually.

Overall, an awesome experience. I was only about 4 people back.

Holy shit it was fucking incredible. I would have been happy with any 2 from that list.
I was 3 people back, directly in front of Jeff.

And the staff kicks ass. We had some douchebag decide to plow through everyone during BWBW, and the staff did a good job taking care of him.

Well I thought it was a good show, but I've never seen them live before. VV

somewhere around Rocket I started feeling a little woozy and had to go guzzle some water and sit down, but otherwise I had a ton of fun

also LOL at Billy's various hand motions (especially during Translucent)

and "RAP IS FUCKING DEAD!"

All right, here goes.

Once Deerhunter lulled themselves out of their noise rock haze and started doing what sounded like My Bloody Valentine covering Joy Division, I liked it a lot. Then it sort of devolved back into noise...oh well, three or four excellent songs in there.

I love the new riffy Pumpkins songs, and I really liked "Mama" because of the all-too-cute chord progression. Still, I agree that perhaps a better idea would be to have a smaller acoustic set in the middle, because often the momentum of the show was swinging wildly and the crowd seemed lost. With that said, I was glad to see an acoustic Rocket.

The momentum problem, acoustic vs. electric aside, was most obvious at the end of the first set. I really like Glass and the Ghost Children, and I think this version is fine, but to hit BWBW and Tarantula and then do G+GC and an extra-long, extra-droney Blue Skies is just confounding to an audience. I thought the crowd was mediocre in general, and that contributed to the lack of a second encore, but the structure of the sets didn't help.

Anyway, I was super-happy with Starla, TAFH, Fuck You, Rocket, a perfect-sounding Hummer, and Untitled. It doesn't match up to 2/19/00 for me, but that's my best concert experience ever, so it's not a big deal.

Anybody figure out what happened when Billy got pissed off? It initially looked like his guitar had shorted, because he yelled at the tech, but then it worked and so did the mic, so I couldn't figure it out.

i thought it was great. they played most of the songs i was hoping to hear. some of the ones i would have liked them to have played:

thirty-three
1979
come on (let's go)
starz
today
gossamer

but as mentioned before, there were several others that they played that i was ecstatic to hear. the show was great in my opinion. i would have liked it if billy had talked to the crowd more like he did for the other shows so far, but i don't have any real complaints. all things considered, that was probably the best concert i've been to. i'm lookin forward to going back on the 5th, so maybe they'll play some of the ones i listed above then.

bottom line: great show

yeah i was further back under the fan and he was standing behind me to begin with. he kept lunging into my back when he started doing that, and rammed me a good 5 or 6 times. then he passed me and did it to everyone in front. im glad to hear they took care of him.

The guy who plowed into us during BWBW was a pain in the ass. The staff quickly calmed him down, but he thought he could just remain way up front ... in front of me. I (forcefully) elbowed my way back in front of him, but he remained right behind me. No one up front was really within 6 inches of anyone else. Except for this dude. I'm pretty sure I lost my gay-virginity to him last night. He was all up on me like [insert analogy here] for the next 4-5 songs. When the setbreak came, all of us turned around to confront him. The girl who was with me was the first to start talking to him, and pretty soon we had a pretty big posse complaining to him. He was all like "dude, this is a rock concert!!! what did you expect?!?!" and we were all like "I expected to listen to my favorite band without having some douchebag push me around" and then I was all like "and seriously, back up a bit. and while you're at it, I doubt any of the people you just jumped in front of really appreciate that. they stood in line like polite people and waited their turn to get good seats, so why don't you go back to whereverthefuck you came from and leave us alone." While all this is going down, we also manage to get the attention of the bouncers again who came out and grabbed him again and gave him another talking to. After that, he left our area and didn't come back.
