Your car has turbo(s) right? Couldn't you get away with not even using mufflers at all?

Yeah.. my car has a turbo, and i could get away with no exhaust, but and exhaust without any muffler's on a subaru with un-equal length headers... has a lot of crackle to it.

Is what i'm thinking, so i can keep her quiet most of the time but have a cut-out piped under the passenger door that i open when i wanna hear her clear her lungs out.

and the vnt mufllers rattle after a while (and usually brand new on subarus with uel headers due to the way our exhaust pulses stack up)

Umm, I don't. I'm not aware of any disadvantages (practical/performance-wise) at least...obviously it will be loud and obnoxious (though less so than an unmuffled NA car, and God forbid an unmuffled Wankel, hahaha)

i ran 2.5" to a vibrant flat black muffler with no other restriction and it sounded good. was a bit obnoxious when the waste gate opened before the muffler was added.

Just listened to that youtube video. Sounds pretty bad, do something!!!

Started to get my S2000 ready for the track, something I've been meaning to do for years but kept putting off!

In the last week or so, I've stripped the interior down to the point where it's ready for a Hard Dog roll bar install (aside from the fact that they'll be removing the bulkhead and stock roll bar):

I then reassembled just enough interior to drive down to Winston-Salem to have the bar installed:

I could install the bar myself, but given that it takes drilling holes in the body and such I figured I'd just let the pros do it, since we're so close to the actual manufacturer of the bar (http://www.bethania-garage.com).

Here's what the car interior will look like in the end:

The install is scheduled for Monday January 16th. I'm pretty excited, I can't wait to get back into track schools.

I also have a Robbins brand soft top on the way, with a glass rear window instead of the stock plastic and made of canvas rather than vinyl. Should make a nice upgrade since the stock top on my S is torn in so many places (the car has lived outside the whole 6 years I've had it, since I haven't had a garage). I'll be doing the soft top replacement myself, since the dealer wants godawful amounts of money to do it. Should be an interesting project

Aside from more aggressive brake pads, I'll probably leave the car stock other than the bar and get a few track schools in before going further. Eventually I'd like to go for seats, harnesses and all that other fun safety stuff. Performance wise I have a hard time seeing the need for anything other than tire and brake pad upgrades in the near future, I've got a lot of learning to do before I outgrow the car in stock form.

Its not too bad to install yourself. I think the hardest part was cutting the fender well out. I used a dremel and 900 cutoff wheels.

In hindsight i think youre doing the right thing. I smell metal dust just thinking back on it.

^ Yeah, I'll be the 1st to admit I'm not very mechanically handy when it comes to cars and metal work in general, and I don't have a Zxappeal type character around to teach me I'm also doing all this in a friend's basement (full floor with manual garage door type basement) so while I think the top replacement is doable, drilling holes in metal and slicing through the fender edges over the line of what I want to bug him with.

No big deal, but I played around with some spray Plasti Dip this past weekend. I did my stock wheels, step bars, and fender/tailgate emblems. I've always wanted black wheels but didn't want to pony up the money. I think everything turned out pretty well for a <$20, non-permanent project.

^no, not really. it's a spray-on rubberized coating, so if you don't like it or something happens, you just work up an edge or corner and then peel it off in a few large pieces. I'm still not expecting it to last a long time, but in the threads where I learned about it, guys said it's stood up for more than a year and car washes. I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the compliment, btw.

It's really nice because you don't have to spend a lot of time taping and masking in great detail. I just popped the wheels off, masked the lug holes, then roughly taped around the sidewall (not even a good circle), leaving about 1/2" exposed outside of the wheel. Sprayed 3 or 4 coats, then peeled up the outer ring. The stuff kinda self-separates at any change in elevation, so I peeled up a whole ring around the wheel and it left a perfect edge on the wheel. Same thing for the emblems, I left about a 1" rectangle of paint exposed and masked around that. Paint it on, then just peel off the rectangular frame around the emblems. Cool stuff that [apparently] doesn't damage paint or chrome.

I've read that people have painted their whole cars with this stuff and then peeled it off after awhile, just for a change.

what's the point in getting a car fairly well suited to track events and then never prepping it for one? I imagine it's not a very fun car on the street (small, loud, low torque, etc). Also, what exactly do you think an s2000 is worth?

If you plan to make money off of a used Honda def. don't do anything to it. I'm never going to sell mine. My son will steal it on his 16th birthday and run it off a cliff.

^^

Its not a terrible daily really. I get over 23MPG avg. I never have to drive anyone anywhere. Gas stations can be annoying with the hardtop because people ask a ton of questions. The rollbar got all the ricers to go away. Tires are a PITA expense. I can change the oil without even jacking the car up so that's nice.

You're acting like I don't already track it, and I've made it pretty clear on this forum that I do track it...

Currently the S2000 market seems to be doing pretty well. I've seen several (same MY as mine with higher mileage) selling for $3,000 more than what I paid.

^^ Tires are indeed a PITA expense, even by sports car standards. I'm hard on tires in general, but my experience with S2000s was even worse than normal.

I think they're an OK daily driver, if the top is in good shape and you have a liner to cut down on the noise. The lack of torque isn't that big of a deal to me. That's what the world's best shifter is for. Gas mileage is OK; I think I got about the same as you. My Z06 does the same or better, though, and has God's own power and torque, at any rpm, anytime (and grip like a boa constrictor). Overall, I've owned 2 and could definitely see myself buying another one, although I'd be inclined to buy a theft recovery, strip the interior, put a roll bar, harnesses, and fixed-back race buckets in it, and have it strictly as a weekend and track/auto-x toy.

As far as making money, I made good money on both of mine...paid $20k for the first one (the supercharged one) with 37k miles; drove it for 2 years, put 35-40k miles on it, and sold it with bald tires and a blown stereo amp for $22k (or was it $22.5k?) Bought the 2nd one for $7700 with about 90k miles; sold it about a year or year and a half later with about 110k miles (and bald tires) for I believe $8500.

I also will say that both of mine were super, super reliable and very cheap on service and routine maintenance.

Your truck looks good spydyrwyr. I've been Plasti-dipping everything lately too. My 2000 4Runner is just old enough to get some good use from it. So far I've done the rear spoiler, windshield wiper arms, and the plastic cowl between the hood and the windshield. All three had faded badly. The plastic cowl looked nearly grey rather than black and the metal pieces were extremely dull and starting to get a little surface rust. Next up will be the trailer hitch and the black rubber section on the rear bumper. At some point I'll probably spray the rims too.

It made a night and day difference on my ATV's racks. The original powder coating had flaked, scratched, and scuffed as you'd expect for a 5 year old ATV with 900 miles. Plasti-dip evens out so well you could barely tell all I did was scuff the paint that was left with a little sand paper and spray them.

I think this stuff would be awesome on those faded plastic fender flares so many Wranglers, Avalanches, 2003 4Runners, etc. have.

My apologies. While I autoxed the Integra for 5 years and took it to one track event after I moved back from NYC it was too beat up for me to track it, plus I had the money to buy something better with which to do such activities

Strongly disagree. I've put almost 20k on my Dunlop Star Specs and they easily have 5,000 miles left. And those tires have attended 2 weekend long HPDE's where they were driven at the limit lap after lap. And $800 for a set of 4 new tires every 1 1/2 years is pretty good for a car of this performance level, in my opinion.

You can get by at a few tracks without a roll bar. The factory roll bars are reinforced (AFAIK) but the main issue with them is they are not very tall.

Yeah, no bar, no VIR. CMP is OK, though, although they might broomstick you, I don't know. I think Barber would be OK, because they run Boxsters there for their school. Not sure about Roebling or Atlanta, or NCCAR.

I burned through Star Specs like it was cool with my s2000. My Z06 got better (10k or close to it, with a track day or two) mileage with Nitto NT-05s (similar treadwear to the Dunlops). A set of those big bastards is still only about $800, so that's not bad for a car like that.

Fucked with my AFC housing on the black truck this past weekend. swapped in a shorter, stiffer spring and reset the preload for a much better transient fueling curve (full fuel doesnt occur until around 20psi... somehow the response doesnt appear to be linear from bench testing the unit, but whatever). I also reset the afc arm height to its lowest position to ensure the gov arm hits it completely when that assembly strokes....

finally got truck back to hitting 45+psi, and the new fueling curve is completely fucking awesome in most situations. 65-90mph rolls are just a little more epic!

Now, however, I have a nasty 'lump' right off the bottom end where it belches smoke if it's loaded up (i.e. <1700rpm pulls with TC locked, etc), moreso than before.
