This is why people cheat in big-time college football. The only way to turn a program around in <5 years is to pay athletes, hire tutors to do their work, and invite runners/boosters into your program. This year could very possibly be a wash, but the foundation is being put in place for a solid future, and some of you want to burn the house down and start over.

Our problem is not that we lost Wilson. Our problem is that we lost Irving. We are back to the 2009 defense. Problem is, TOB had an opportunity to fix that. Instead, he wanted continuity and kept Archer. If our defense doesn't improve this year, it's on TOB, not just Archer.

see, this is what I hate about our fans. We blitzed today, which is what everyone hated about Archer when he didn't try to bring pressure a few years ago. We still lost today because we have a completely depleted defense, and didn't have the guys we needed to contain Collaros AND stuff Pead up the middle. We're weak on defense because we're missing the guys. If we play teams who can have a QB roll-out of the pocket AND a RB who can find seams up the middle on inexperienced guys, we're going to have trouble, and we're just going to have to gain experience on the fly. Not ideal, but there's only so much a coach can do about that.



RAWWWR RAWWWR RAAWWRBARRGGGLE, TOB should be recruiting true freshman who can step in right away and make a presence on the DLine. RAAWWRRRR.


Anyway, I spent waaaaay too much time on this, but whatevs.

we destroyed this team a year ago. replacing seniors is coaching 101. if tob can't keep a reasonable amount of depth in the program then he has no business coaching anywhere. its almost like we are under heavy probation or something when you watch our team play.

That was frustrating. I'm slowly leaving TOB's camp. Our O-line should be better. I knew our defense was going to struggle with all the injuries, but that was painful. It will be interesting to see what happens when we get manning/sweezy/etc. back. I can't imagine it will make that much of a difference...but it would be nice to be able to get someone in the backfield without having to blitz a couple guys.

I'm not completely giving up on this team, but we've got a monstrous uphill battle at this point.

im not so fickle as to roll-over on the coach just yet, but you can't discount how many young guys are playing on the DL. Couple times, DL guys were literally looking at the sidelines and pointing as if: "this is where you want me to be coach, or over a little?"

For sure though, the Mike Archer experiment has got to be thought through hard unless there is some kind of miraculous turnaround, which i don't see happening.

Trust me no coach wants to come coach with our fanbase. Unrealistic expectations and wanting to blow up the team each time we struggle.

We will give him another season regardless of the record this year, but he will have to replace some coaches (Archer), but there is no doubt he fucked up the RW situation and its biting him on the ass big time.

Every respectable fan base gets pissed off after getting blown out 44-14 or losing to Wake Forest. What were our unrealistic expectations? To not lose to the projected worst team in the ACC? To not get embarrassed on national television by a mediocre team?

10 years for Herb
5 years for Lowe
7 years for Chuck
5 years for TOB

We give our coaches plenty of time to prove themselves. If a coach is in the 5th season at a school losing to WF, struggling with minnows like Liberty, and getting ass blasted by a mediocre Cinci team and he doesn't expect criticism, then he's a dumbass.

The heat on TOB isn't just coming from these couple of games either. I'm trying to identify what he brings as a coach and having problems. He doesn't surround himself with good coaches. He can't recruit worth shit. He's not a gutsy coach that likes to takes risks. He doesn't have some innovative gimmick style of play. He's supposed to be a disciplinarian but I'm not seeing it. Not only do we have some of the worst rated athletes, but they don't see to be able to do simple fundamental things like not fumble or tackle properly.

He's a bland, generic football coach. His only positive right now is that we aren't under some kind of investigation. So if you're not pleased with the current state of our program but want him to stay, I'm curious as to why. How will it get better? Should we just expect to keep our heads above water while we wait on another Russell Wilson (who might get us 8 or 9 wins and a mediocre bowl)?

Can we just retire the whole "we can't get a good coach because our fan base is terrible" thing? Pretty sure every fan base would be as upset or even more upset if they had a similar product on the field/court. And hey, our fan base continues to actually show up in spite of it all.

There are a lot of good programs out there that have good coaches where the fans are just as rabid when they lose to good teams. Gotta expect an upset fan base when faced with a bad program with bad coaches losing to bad teams.

Can you enumerate specific things that are unique to our fan base that are currently driving off the good coaches?
