Anyways, this feels like such a wasted episode. NOTHING really happened. The girl is still lost. No real plot advancement. :p

Maybe the fed the little girl to the zombies?
that doesn't seem their style, but it doesn't make sense dragging the missing girl out this much. 11/14/2011 12:01:56 AM |

It's really surprising that this missing girl plot has gone on for as long as it has, but I guess that's them trying to build tension/realism. The differing opinions of Shane and Rick are interesting to watch, especially with Shane picking up the "Ends justify the means" attitude. 11/14/2011 7:52:06 AM |

^^ i've been hypothesizing that for a couple weeks now. i dont know what purpose that would serve but it would definitely give Rick and gang the excuse to go bunk-wild on Hershel. i'm guessing the walkers in the barn are family and friends that turned but he couldn't do with putting down? hoping for a miracle cure from God i guess.. 11/14/2011 7:55:07 AM |

Agreed. I think it is really the most interesting aspect of the show. I'm kinda wondering if Walking Dead will turn into something like an allegory for the two philosophical positions--maybe with Rick representing the deontological approach to ethics and Shane representing consequentialism.
If that is the case, I think Walking Dead is shaping up to show how undesirable consequentialism can be in practice. Specifically, the central question seems to be who gets to perform the moral calculus required to decide who lives and who dies when the needs of the many conflict with the needs of the few.
Take Shane's murdering of Otis. He would likely argue that he was making the "tough" decision to sacrifice Otis to save Carl. But the viewer should wonder if that really was the case. After all, if Shane's only goal was to save Carl, he could easily have handed off the bags to Otis (who knows the area better than Shane and is in no worse shape) and sacrificed himself. The only reason I can see for murdering Otis instead of giving his own life is that Shane doesn't just want to save Carl, he wants to win Lori's affections (which would do him no good if he was dead).
The bottom line here (I think) is that there are no impartial moral judges, which makes consequentialism harder to stomach in this situation. Everyone has their own agendas and those might conflict with making an objective assessment of what the true moral consequences of any action might be.
Rick's "duty" or "rule" based approach to ethics avoid this problems--the "right" thing to do is always the "right" thing to do (regardless of whether the person you're saving is a Redneck asshole or a little girl).

The only thing that really seemed to happen this episode was Darryl's Merle hallucination planting the "fuck rick" idea in his head. We'll see if anything actually comes of that I guess.

that whole "fuck rick" idea has been in Darryl's head, just deep in his sub-conscious. it was planted right when he found out Rick left his brother on the rooftop in ATL.

i really didnt have that big of a problem with Kate from Lost. but Andrea in TWD i wanna beat with a hammer. i was talking with a guy in work and what ticks us off is that most likely the writers/directors/producers knowing how much people hate Andrea won't kill her off anytime soon, if ever. plus theorizing that Andrea and Darryl will hook-up eventually too. but dammit die woman 11/14/2011 1:15:26 PM |

^ I was actually betting Andrea and Shane would hook up. If you think about it, they would make a perfect couple.
Separate, they're both dangers to the group (Andrea is an emotionally fragile depressive, Shane is a willing to kill to earn the affections of his best friend's wife). Together, maybe they would provide each other the strength they need to stop getting on my last damn nerve. 11/14/2011 1:28:53 PM |

I agree that the search for the girl has gone on too long but it does provide the backdrop to the Shane/Rick conflict.
I'd like to think I'm a decent person and would be on Ricks side. But I can understand where Shane is coming from. They are putting everyone in danger plus adding a lot of problems for someone willing to let them camp on his land.
I mean. Yea. They could be just as fucked on their own trying to get to somewhere safe. 11/14/2011 9:02:05 PM |

Why would you waste the ammo on a lone walker? If you're a poor shot, why are you trying to take it when there are clearly civilians that could be hit by being a few degrees off? Why would you risk the gunshot being heard when again, it's a lone walker? 11/15/2011 12:05:40 PM |

^Because she is stupid. Everyone else that was around her instantly thought of the exact same thing. They told her not to shoot, that they would take care of it, and they grabbed their melee weapons to go take it out silently. She didn't care though because she's a selfish idiot. They should throw her down the well. She's gonna probably somehow end up releasing all the zombies in the barn. 11/15/2011 12:09:26 PM |

yet another wasted episode. the discovery of the barn is pretty lame. "hey have you ever done it in the haybarn?" on a fucking note passed under the dinner table with the father 5 feet behind you? Could you not be more fucking obvious?
Also, I don't get the whole "everyone wants to shoot darryl" comment. WTF? Why would everyone want to shoot him? he's the most badass person in the group who happens to be very likable and actually a good person to date thus far... He's not annoying and actually helps the group out and shit...
And fuck Andrea. Need to vote her off the island. Give her a knife and send her on her way.
I agree, the most interesting aspect of the drama so far has been the transformation of Shane, but honestly, this show needs more than this dynamic; everything else is fucking boring as shit and really not interesting at all. 11/16/2011 3:53:15 AM |
