i'd have to think at this point everyone in the big east is shopping themselves somewhere.
you know i was going to say i'd be shocked if the sec took wvu, but maybe not. their football is weak for sec standards, but certainly not weaker than vandy or kentucky, and with florida state being locked up and oklahoma and oklahoma state looking to move west rather than east, wvu might be one of the better options available, even to the sec. i think wvu is a great option for us, but apparently we're too high brow to do it. 9/18/2011 8:00:26 PM |

I think the funniest part of this thread is the Elitist attitude of NC State fans are taking to memberships of the ACC. The additions of Pitt and Syracuse drops you down two spots in the ACC in basketball and gives you competition at the middle of the pack in football. I guess you get more wins in baseball? 9/18/2011 8:09:54 PM |

Madison Square Garden. I don't think you can look at this and think this is all football related. And even if it were, it's not like UConn sucks at football. They can compete with the ACC. Going from nothing to the Fiesta Bowl in 10 years is one helluva accomplishment, regardless of what conference you play in. As for Rutgers, well, I don't really know much about them, other than their storied success in the papajohns.com bowl and Eric LeGrand.
upon further research, apparently rutgers played in the first ever football game in college sports in the middle of a picnic:

we're going to suck no matter what making the goal keeping the acc alive and as strong as possible so we dont end up in a POS conference with ECU

man you have no idea what's going on. this is about making sure that the ACC, and thus nc state, remains one of the top flight conferences when all is said and done.
why do you think louisville fans are freaking the fuck out? their teams didn't all of the sudden become less talented. all of the sudden they're without a conference, and that's even worse.
and you know what, it does make nc state better. the bigger conferences get more money. two days ago we're on par with the big east, and a lesser to the big 12. right now it looks like we'll be ahead of both of them shortly. that means less money for them, and more money for us, so our teams get better while theirs get worse. we may lose a spot or two in the conference, but we gain many more than that in the country.

Assuming we get UConn and a 16th team is from North of NC (like Rutgers or WVU) they should split the conference into 2 8 team divisions of the ACC South, with every school in NC and below, and the ACC North with every team in Virginia and above. 9/18/2011 8:30:15 PM |

Paul Pasqualoni is a pretty good football coach and the biggest mistake Syracuse ever made was firing him. Plus they are pretty much in their infancy as a program.

True, anything could happen. The cards are stacked against them though. And its not like they were super spectacular last year. They played smart football and sneaked into a BCS bowl riding the weakness of the Big East. Then they got their shit pushed in.9/18/2011 8:34:09 PM |

I'm not so sure about more southern than Texas. More redneck-backwards-ass-hillybilly, definitely, but that doesn't necessarily equal southern.

We beat Syracuse both games when Donovan McNabb was there and they were at their peak under Pasqualoni with MOC. Also we won at Syracuse in basketball Julius's freshman year IIRC. Don't get butthurt because ECU's reputation is so bad they can't sniff a real conference.9/18/2011 11:56:42 PM |

you know, i didn't want texas, but now i do. texas means invincibility as a conference as long as they can't afford to leave. if we can somehow get texas to sign a contract that forbids them to leave, i'm all for it.
i don't want to give texas the conference, but i'd rather do that than add rutgers. i'd also rather add LOUISVILLE than rutgers, btw. why would anyone prefer rutgers? 9/18/2011 11:57:55 PM |
