Well, losing by +10 is always embarrassing, no matter what team/circumstances. It's sad, given we've been riding this high of UNC losses and an awesome football win. Honestly who isn't secretly hoping to have this miraculous basketball team come out of nowhere and get the Pack to the top? But it is what it is, the team looks better than any we've had in recent years and the potential is obvious.

i expected to lose - i mean the experience is just not there, freshmen, blah blah - its true BUT, to a point a coach is there to tell them to calm down, run a set, stop taking dumbshit 3's etc

I can live with it. This will be a good film to show them that they have to play as a team in college hoops or they're going to get schooled. Georgetown has 4 seniors. We have Javi only (for now). Still more talent on the floor than we've had in years.

I am disappointed in this game. We played well the first half, and we played hard. I wouldn't be upset if we had played smart in the second half, but we took stupid shots and made stupid mistakes. That said, I'd rather we get this kind of game out of our systems now, and be prepared for the teams like Wisconsin, than to have had a cake walk of a tournament here and run into any more good opponents like a brick wall.

You chalk it up to coaching? What adjustments made or not made by Sid are you blaming it on?

Freeman and Wright were really, really good... experience was a huge difference.

Would have been nice to have Tracy but even with him, we probably wouldn't win that game.

The key will be how we bounce back from this . This should be a great learning experience for our team, let's just hope there isn't a prolonged hangover or loss of confidence. We'll learn a lot about these young players and Lowe over the next few games.

i think they'll be ok. they've had what, 3 days?, to adjust to playing without him. and then we get to play GT.

give them some practice time to figure out the game without him and we'll be ok.

should he be able to keep them from playing 1-on-5 for the entire second half?

10 minutes is expected.

but a whole half?

I fully support Sid. but he has to take the blame for this one too. not just "inexperience."

Where did I say I was pissed off about the loss? I didn't expect them to win. Especially with Tracy out.

You're not too bright either are you?

What I did say is that we were embarrassed, particularly in the last 10 minutes. It wen't beyond 'inexperience'.

I am also looking forward to CJ showing up. Brown has been crazy solid and Harrow has shown flashes of brilliance.

honestly not all of the 3s we took in that stretch where we went like 0/8 and didnt even try anything else were horrible. most of the ones wood took were bad and the one howell took was

but the wood 3 in transition off the harrow pass wasnt a horrible move. just poorly timed since he missed it. same for the harrow 3. it was a little deep but it was taken in the flow of the offense

the main problem is that we took a bunch of dumb shots playing with javi, then Sid put harrow in (rightly) and we kept fucking up. then the freshmen started to panic and got owned in transition. right before that point he should've put javi back in but we still likely wouldve lost, just by 5-8 instead of double digits

[Edited on November 21, 2010 at 10:03 PM. Reason : ^youre still wrong. we got run off the floor by an experienced team once they got up 10]

Not sure why that matters? They had three guys shooting over 47% with over 20 taken... that is their game. It certainly wasn't a fluke.

Why is everyone bitching about the 3s. Yeah , we took some bad shots after things started to get out of hand, but before that it was mostly missing open/good shots. Combine that with GT shooting lights out and our young team panicked . Without Smith we're going to be a perimeter team and will have to live and die by the 3 for a while. This shit will happen.

Listened to the whole game on the radio driving back from charlotte.

What it SOUNDED like......was that Georgetown's experience and talent took over in the 2nd half and our inexperience took over. Sounded like we missed tracy's inside presence as well....will be interesting to see where we go from here

The 3s came when GT got the lead out of their offense, which gave GT long rebounds and fast break opportunities. It was an avalanche effect. Bad defense created bad offense, which created more bad defense.

That's how underclassmen roll. We really needed the forwards to stop the initial easy points that georgetown got by stopping the rebounds.

Experienced teams are going to be more efficient on average, so you can't give them extra possessions.

They'll learn to stop the avalanche effect.

they went 8-22 from 3. cant expect much worse from a team that jacks up a bunch like that

the problem is we went 4-17. gotta be better than that. with the team we have this year we honestly shouldnt be taking that many in most games unless wood or brown go off. it's going to be tough w/o tracy though

when tracy comes back he really needs to be 100% and a beast down low. not just a decent defensive rebounder and a good offensive rebounder off his own shots but a certifiable beast. either that or one of howell or painter need to step up. thats asking a bit much since painter already stepped up from last season. but if it happens this is a legit team with a shot to go deep in the tournament

I think the most important thing Smith would give us is something to go to when times are tough. So when Georgetown is in the middle of that 12-0 run...Sid can call time out and emphasize getting it in to Smith and let him work his magic. Without Smith, the team doesn't have that major go to guy...although I think some of the freshmen will develop into that kind of role.

[no]

We have good penetrators and we have bigs to finish besides tracy. Vandy hurts us but Painter has come out and been impressive imo and howell, when not jacking up retarded 3's, can finish very well around the rim.

Not to mention CJ and brown can create and finish at the rim very well.

when vandy is in we lose a lot of inside presence - maybe the freshmen are realizing that they shouldn't pass to vandy and so they just are like...fuck it...3 3 3 3

I'd like to see us go to a little tighter rotation, especially when Tracy comes back. I don't think CJ Williams or Vandenberg give us much and they each played ~17 minutes.

leslie just plays totally out of control. needs to reel it in a lot.

and did you say howell can finish at the basket? he can get fouled, if that's what you meant, but he rarely finishes. same for painter. vandy doesn't even get fouled.

^^^ I think CJW will benefit when Smith is back and the defense has to focus more evenly inside and out.

Our bigs can't score from post ups but they can score from drives and dishes. They should be scoring from putbacks, too.

They are playing to soft, though. There is no excuse for howell not owning the paint. He is fucking huge. Painter and Vandy have trouble lowering their center of gravity to get position. Other bigs and just getting under them. That has to change.

The guards can set them up. They just need to get position and clear out space

Eh I disagree on CJ Williams, he's a solid defender off the bench. And he can contribute some solid offense when he plays with a little assertiveness.
