Jesse "boots electric" hughes from eagles of death metal is releasing a solo album next month, entitled honky kong, which he sums up by saying he "took george clinton and bent him over and raped the shit out of him with gary human using little richard as a dick."

downloaded a song from boots-electric.com, but I dunno how I feel about it yet. the rest of the album could be entertaining, I guess.

new Girls is pretty amazing. it's clearly a grower-- it was twice as good the second time through, and i'm sure that will keep increasing. love the guitar shredding on multiple tracks

new Active Child has some cool sounds, but it doesn't do anything for me. I'll keep it in mind if I want to eat some psychedelics and watch WMP visualizations.

Yeah, the new Girls record surpasses even the highest expectations people might've had for it. I'd have to listen to it a few more times, but on the first few listens, I was thinking it might even be an album-of-the-year contender.

The album of the year is clearly Bon Iver. Hands down.

agreed. i told a friend of mine that it's like new bon iver good, not stylistically of course, but more in the way that it's better than people would've expected as you said, and critics will probably be gushing over it. not that i care about pitchfork reviews, but if they gave album a 9.1, this one should score super high.

[Edited on August 17, 2011 at 11:29 AM. Reason : glad my bon iver comment followed the biggest bon iver hater on here]

I mean, holy fuck, Girls. The more I listen to this record, the more I'm pretty blown away by just how fucking great these songs are. I love how ambitious it sounds. That's what I've always liked about Girls: that they are a rock band in the classic sense, not necessarily in the indie sense.

i can't think of a better pop song i've heard this year than "magic." also can't get enough of "how can i say i love you," "vomit," and "love life."

it is for me.

right now, for me personally, it's Girls and Beirut, and then a HUGE drop off for everything else. honestly, The Rosebuds record would probably be 3rd for me right now. the Girls record sounds like Big Star having an orgy with Built to Spill.

but, i'm one of the few (apparently), who did not like the bon iver record as a whole. i thought it had 3 or 4 good tracks, but a lot of shit tracks on it.

very true. i was thinking of big star a lot when i was listening to it.

i also love all the songs rat soup mentioned, plus the first and last tracks, "Honey Bunny" and "Jamie Marie." Especially the first song; it's such a knock-you-on-your-ass way to start the record. So catchy, great harmonies.

other than the guitar lick in "die" sounding like a RHCP song or something and seeming way out of place, it's a very very solid album.

It's because they're from San Fran, where houses average in the millions and a loaf of bread costs 30 dollars.

They just need money.
