$1.5 mil guy for a 4th rounder and an AHL rookie? Is this supposed to be part of a salary dump for a move before the deadline?

Also, our defense has been playing a lot better than it has in the past, so I would think Allen/Gleason have at least a slightly higher chance of staying. I remember I looked a few weeks ago and didn't remember seeing many top tier d-men that would be FAs in the offseason that are really worth going after (save Suter and a few others who didn't seem likely to move). Unless some team just has so much excess offense that they could spare a talented forward for one of them, I feel like it'd be a bad long and short run move to get rid of them.

Our ice is shit. I can look at it from the 3rd level and tell it's shit. The ice isn't the reason why the Jets suck and lost, but it is terrible. Donnie Mac's replacement is apparently terrible at his job.

LOL. You're joking right? He's a second pairing Dman on most other teams but not on this one. He and Allen have been our shutdown pair most of the season. He's a plus player on a last place team. He brings toughness to a team that has none.

And he has a full NTC for the first two years of his deal so there is no sign and trade.

I realize he's not a 2nd pair d-man on this team, but your comment of "he's a 2nd pairing dman on most teams" emphasizes the point that it's an overpayment. Just because our offense has a marginal 1st line, 2 3rd lines, and a 4th line doesn't mean we should pay players above their production.

I agree that's an overpayment if he played on our 2nd pair but he doesn't. You have to pay him like a 1st pair if he plays on the 1st pair. Heck, we gave Tomas Kaberle a 4/4.25/4.5M contract to quarterback a power play and not mess up too badly on defense. 4M for 3 years for a guy that actually plays well defensively is a steal at this point.

oh, I'm not saying we're going to sign Weber or anything like that, but Gleason isn't likely to improve much (if at all). He'll be 30 next year, but he's still viewed by many as a young player.

I don't think it is overpayment. Gleason has only gotten better each year and we need a fighter/enforcer style defenseman.
