I'd like to suggest that communication is a two way street, and requires some of the intellectual curiosity that rwoody mentioned above.
And to confirm the rabid voters != the one's I suggested (at least intended to suggest) would vote for Trump.
Quote : | "I'm partially excited about the debates showcasing how similar they are on issues, and forcing some republicans to concede that they've been largely advocating centrist-democrat policies while being rabidly Trumpian. I also think this has a clear chance of pulling in moderate republicans" |
That's my statement but let's now look at it in segments.
Quote : | "I'm partially excited about the debates showcasing how similar they are on issues, and forcing some republicans to concede that they've been largely advocating centrist-democrat policies while being rabidly Trumpian. " |
Trump has been touting policies that conservative and centrist democrats have been for ages. His talking points are nearly the same as Biden's, hence my I'd find humorous comment since it's so absurd but c'est la vie. These people at the same time have been aggressively pro Trump despite the fact the policies they back are anything but mainstream republican. My statement isn't how they'll vote for trump but rather the humor I find in their irony and their realization. This statement was then followed by...
Quote : | "...Trumpian. I also think this has a clear chance of pulling in moderate republicans." |
I point these people out as a different group. I say he has a chance to pull in this other group. I did not say and then he can pull this group of rapid Trumpain moderate republicans... or use any form of 'these' to connect the two groups. I can vaguely see how someone would connect the two groups, but not so much so that I would continue to beat my head against the wall confused once someone kept reiterating they were talking about a subset of educated moderate republicans. Even more so since I clarified that this group, referring to the group mentioned directly before it, who are the moderate republicans, is a group tired of Trump. Rabidly pro Trumpian doesn't sound like a group who is tired of him.
I'm sure you get it all now. Even if you say you don't.6/13/2019 12:15:23 PM |

yes, i have correctly understood your posts
it's nonsense to think that trumpian people will have any realizations about policies, or to think that his policies will pull in moderate republicans (at least in any kind of noteworthy amount)

I wholeheartedly agree with this take about boasting about one poll and saying disregard trends:
Quote : | "the latest Quinnipiac poll’s great for Bernie, and they should hype it up! but “ignore the overall trend, THIS is the poll that says what’s ACTUALLY happening” is a bad message for a healthy campaign. Bernie’s in second place — he’s in great shape! no reason to resort to this" |

If Warrens debate spot was switched with Bernie’s the Sirota gang would be having an epic meltdown. Warren is going to be great in a debate policy-wise but almost all the focus will be on the other one with the heavyweights.

My guess is they think people want to compare Biden and Sanders head-to-head. But I'm not sure why anyone at this point wouldn't know their differences.
I think Warren won the draw, as she can be front and center in a debate of also-rans and stay firm and strong without getting in the trenches with Sanders and Biden quite yet. 6/15/2019 1:06:04 PM |

They are definitely being *paid* to run to waterdown the debates and split the vote so that the media and DNC can have as much power over the process as possible. A 10 person debate is not a debate and each person won't even get a chance to respond to each of the "questions" that come up. Its all fixed.
With that said, these candidates need to be looking into Trump's performances from the GOP debates last time because he really put on a clinic of how to stand out in a debate to levitate his campaign. Come out with a clear projection that you are MAD AS HELL and fight the frontrunners on the issues where you have the most contrast. You can't just project anger at the other side but it must be directed at any democrat with the audacity to be on this stage without the right policies for the people. Being polite projects as not caring enough and is not going to get anyone noticed. You might as well stay home polite. (Yang, Tulsi, Bernie, Warren, Harris I'm looking at all of you. ) Show people that your contrast is URGENT and that you are willing to FIGHT FOR THEM.
Thats how Trump built his base. He was attractive because he came off as someone who would part with the ways of Washington on their behalf. It may not have been true for Trump but that hypothetical candidate is still the one that would change the map and drive enough turnout to take the senate as well. Its the most amazing story in the history of politics.

Other than being yet another corporate neoliberal, Biden's problem is he still believes the GOP will come around and that he can get them to work with him. They won't. Quote : | " Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) took a shot at Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Wednesday, a sign that the fight to be the Democratic Party’s progressive standard-bearer is heating up as Warren rises in the polls.
Sanders, referencing a Politico article about how centrist Democrats are flocking to Warren’s campaign in an effort to ensure he doesn’t win the nomination, tweeted that the “corporate wing” of the Democratic Party is intent on electing anyone but him.
“The cat is out of the bag,” Sanders tweeted. “The corporate wing of the Democratic Party is publicly ‘anybody but Bernie.’ They know our progressive agenda of Medicare for All, breaking up big banks, taking on drug companies and raising wages is the real threat to the billionaire class.”" |
The cat was never in the bag Bernie. How could you not have noticed this in the past 4 years? We could have built a viable 3rd party by now but you are naive that they will come around.
Improbable odds for progressives to have to defeat Warren before we can take on Biden and then have to defeat Biden before we can take on Trump. Would be so much easier to go straight to the general as independents, green, or anything else really .6/20/2019 1:57:34 PM |

When I say "viable" 3rd party, I mean more viable than Bernie's chances within the democrat party which are essentially zero. He may not be able to match Trump's base but it would be extremely close. The part no one thinks about is all of the non-democrats who are in Bernie's base and aren't part of the primaries but also the silent majority of non-voters who most certainly align with Bernie and would show up for him in the general. A Bernie indy election would have record turnout and would end up depending on how many liberals Bernie could flip. The hypothetical Bernie Trump one on one election would result in a Bernie landslide and his coattails would flip the senate and deepen the house. Democrat leadership fears that result more than anything.
Quote : | " If he ends up being the nominee, better him than Trump, but I think that’s a really, really low standard. " |
Two far right candidates so its really just a litmus on how libertarian you are. Tax cuts and gun rights.
Other than curing cancer, I can't find a single issue where Biden is "better" than Trump. They are both awful but I can find more positives out of a Trump presidency. Not being part of the corporate establishment is a plus but saving us from war is a huge plus. Allies not being with us or trusting us on foreign conflicts is a good thing. As much as I hate capitalism, the economy is booming more than ever under Trump. No sense in going back to the "We are capitalists, but somethings not right, but socialism is bad, so wee need to do more corporate handouts and regulations on behalf of special interests that can be sold as "progressive" days.
If Biden is elected, liberals will go back to not caring about immigrants, abortion, healthcare, economics, education, or climate change and since its becoming clear we aren't going to elect anyone who will touch these issues, I'd rather keep the liberals pissed off and activated than going back to the complacency of the previous 8 years. We can make a lot more progress at the state level when liberals are activated. The caveat is that you can also think of it as their punishment for putting us in this situation AGAIN.
