not really, since it said his future is playing facing the basket. i don't want to replace a guy recruited to play good interior defense and get rebounds with dennis horner 2.0

Quote : | "North Broward (Fla.) Prep coach Scott Williams said 6-foot-10 Josip Mikulic reminds N.C. State assistant coach Monte Towe of Dwayne Schintzius, a 7-footer who played for Towe and Norm Sloan at Florida in the 1980s and later in the NBA.
Mikulic, a current high school junior who is originally from Croatia, has committed to N.C. State, Williams said.
"He's an extremely good shooter," Williams said. "He has NBA range and is very fundamentally sound for a big kid. He's a good, quality basketball player."
Williams said growing up overseas, where players are known for developing their perimeter skills, helped Mikulic hone a good 3-point stroke. Mikulic also had a late growth spurt.
"Up until two or three years ago he was a guard," Williams said. "He was 6-2, 6-3. He was a perimeter player, and he grew into that body."
Mikulic planned to commit to the first school that showed a commitment to him, and N.C. State was that school, Williams said.
"He's a very loyal kid, and I think he thought Coach [Sidney] Lowe could develop his game," Williams said" |

Found this on Mikulic's ESPN profile
Strengths: Mikulic is a long and very skilled power forward that does a great job of knocking down open shots with range to the arc. He is also a good ball handler, passer and decent rebounder for his size as well. Mikulic runs the pretty well and is perfect for stretching the defense on the side of dribble penetration and in pick and pop situations. Mikulic also is a pretty good shot blocker on and away from the ball.
Weaknesses: Mikulic must add strength and work to develop his back to the basket moves. He also must be more physical and compete for rebounds on a consistent basis. He is a good not great athlete so working to improve his explosiveness would also help him become a better finisher.
Bottom Line: Mikulic is a skilled power forward with great size. He can knock down open shots with three point range and can handle, pass and block shots. He is a good rebounder that could improve with a more consistent battle attitude. He must add strength and build his back to the basket moves but has great upside.
They also rate him an 88 overall and the #26 center in the 2012 class.
Quote : | ""He's 6'10 and has the chance to add a few inches," Rankin said. "He is very skilled for a big man. The N.C. State staff will love his ability to face up at his size and knock down jumpers. He could be a big time matchup problem."" |
Apparently Monte Towe has been recruiting and evaluating him since this past summer.2/21/2011 9:35:19 PM |

Sounds like there are a lot of highly rated centers in the 2012 class, or is that just because he is better at PF than C? Where is he ranked among PFs?2/22/2011 7:49:51 AM |

FWIW, text message from tyler lewis's dad to PackPrie. We'll see if it holds true:
Quote : | ""Tyler selected NC State because of the coaching staff. He has developed a great relationship with Coach Monte Towe & Coach Towe has been following Tyler for the past 3 years. NC State did a fantastic job of recruiting Tyler and we are thankful for their belief in him.
"In addition, we get bombarded by people asking what Tyler is going to do if NC State doesn’t retain Coach Lowe. If you will notice, Tyler has not wavered in his commitment to NC State. Let’s be honest, most high elite level players would have de-committed by now.
"In addition, Tyler had opportunities to play for CP3 this coming AAU season but chose to play for Team Loaded. Why? Because he is a very loyal kid! He doesn’t jump from one HS or AAU team to another. The same holds true for his loyalty and commitment to NC State. Whether or not, NC State chooses to make a change in their coaching staff, Tyler wants to attend NC State, providing if they still want him."" |

im excited about the croatian, i love guys who sprout late. THey have much better skillsets because they grow up playing real basketball as opposed to a guy who is 6'1 in middle school and gets stuck under the basket their whole lives. He's averaging 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, not bad at all for a freshman.
But I agree, he's got a lot to learn before going pro, particularly on defense.

Can't leave out the .547 ft% and 1.8 turnovers/gm. Also his conduct (or misconduct) that got him suspended. I'm trying to paint a less than positive picture with the hopes that he returns next season.

JaQawn Raymond plays for the Georgia Stars AAU team, which is the same team that Richmond bound Alonzo Nelson-Ododa plays for. You may remember that we were recruiting Nelson-Ododa, so I'm guessing that the staff saw something in Raymond while evaluating Nelson-Ododa. 3/5/2011 4:47:02 PM |

What are you guys basing all these opinions on? I haven't seen any mock drafts or rankings that project him later than the 1st round.
He is easily one of the top 5 most athletic guys available this year. Some team will be glad to take him for late first round money and let him develop a few years. 3/6/2011 9:32:24 AM |
