Probably should have listened to Fumbler back in December, but have been having FTE issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kj6KCjVipAwith Remington 870 Express.
Could it be the cheap Remington ammo I bought at Walmart? If so, any recommendations for something better that won't break the bank?
Otherwise, the fix seems to be to polish the barrel and/or replace MIM extractor with steel http://www.rem870.com/2013/05/29/4-ways-to-fix-remington-870-failure-to-extract/
Gun is still under warranty. Any chance Remington might fix? Otherwise, can anyone recommend a gunsmith? 6/28/2014 3:20:14 PM |

i'm in the market for a .308 rifle to use at the range, minimum 100yd up to 200yd. i've narrowed it down to 2 choices from Cabela's but i'd like you guys' input before i pull the trigger on one. i have yet to handle either one as well; i will be going in a couple weeks. all thoughts and criticism welcome.

option 1) ship the gun to remington (bit of a pain in the ass) and let them fix it (with more shitty parts)
option 2) fix it yourself. it's not that difficult to replace an extractor. you can "polish" the chamber with a 12 ga bronze brush chucked in a drill. maybe a little flitz and a 12 gauge mop.
option 3) let a gunsmith fix it. probably less than $50.
option 4) sell it with the issue.
no matter which option you choose, i'd suggest you get rid of that piece of fucking junk and get a mossberg. i don't call folks' stuff junk very often, pretty much only when it's remington, because everything they make nowadays is crap, and honestly they've never exactly been top-of-the-line except with a select few models.

Out of those two I would get the Savage. I don't really care for Ruger very much and I have heard great things about the Accutrigger. I would personally get a Tikka T3 but it would be a lot more than those others plus you would need a scope. 7/1/2014 7:32:47 PM |

And yes, should have listened. But Mossberg 500 felt cheap. Sort of how a new BMW feels solid compared to a Toyota, but you wish you had the Toyota after the warranty expires? But maybe that means I need to pony up for 590 A1, as MaximaDrvr recommended to me in December.

I like my (older) 870, but then I have probably 2500 rounds through that gun, between shooting clays, dove and duck hunts, and range time. Never had a malfunction related to extraction. did have a few double feeds with rounds that had all plastic hulls, such as Activ, etc.
These days my 870 is a behind the door queen, as a single point sling and a +5 mag tube extension plus side saddle don't make for a light and handy duck gun. 7/2/2014 8:48:34 PM |

For how much should I sell that Norinco SKS I picked up in trade? Some dumbass painted the wooden stock black; I haven't messed with it. Everything else seems fine. Glancing at Gunbroker and GunsAmerica, I'm thinking $350 might be a fair price. I don't want to squeeze top dollar; I'm selling to a friend. I don't want to give it away on the cheap, though.
That seems crazy to me; I remember when they were $80-100. 7/7/2014 6:05:18 PM |

More like $300 tops, and thats a private sale. No way a pawn shop would give you that as theyd likely try to sell the gun for that much.
I sold a cream puff Norinco a few weeks ago for $450. Perfect original stock, all matching numbers, desirable year and factory...
It didnt have a bayonet because it was imported under Clinton, but it also hadnt been fired since it entered this country either.
Even at $450 it was a tough sell. Its another one of those guns that was over purchased in the last panic and everyone is trying to unload them now. Usually asking too much. 7/11/2014 2:28:56 AM |

Have you shot the M&P? It shoots fine, but I don't like the tigger. You can spend $100 and make it a lot better.

Havent shot a fullsize M&P, just the compact. Your right, I dont like the trigger as much.
I just find that the Glock does not fit my hand well. I love the reliability of it, the accuracy, the predictability of the trigger, but not the hand feel.
I'd love a Sig or H&K, but they are out of the budget I feel compared to the Glock. 7/12/2014 4:26:52 PM |

My lc9 carries everywhere fine My sr9c conceals well iwb but isn't very comfy there.
And restricted, I'd get the smaller gun with more capacity seem a like a no brainer.
Sigs always seem to work just fine the model doesn't seem to matter.

long story short, i know they suck, especially after sandy hook.
that being said sometimes even with shipping they have niche items at a lower price than most places and i get a lot of emailed coupons.
the error was on their end. i called and let them know i entered my zip into their calculator thing that determines if an item can even be shipped to you. it could of course.
they said the automated system flagged it because they were switching to a zip based shipping system instead of name based? and it got confused by my location and thought i was near LA. obv a problem.
kind of a weird explanation but im getting the holster free and not paying shipping on the rest of my order (which was considerable), so this 1-star company for me is now 2-star.
what similar companies do you guys use that dont suck? 7/16/2014 10:26:42 AM |

If it doesn't have one already, I suggest the guide rod upgrade. My LCP had the factory guide rod and it failed at the range. MaximaDrvr witnessed it.
If you are going to IWB/Back/Front carry a firearm, you should be able to do so with an LC9 or equivalent slim frame 9mm. The only reason I carry my LCP over my G27 is because I need something I can pocket carry without printing or looking like my pocket is stuffed full. I recommend Blackhawk Size 1 pocket holster, although there are a few others worth looking into that are similar. Just make sure it covers the trigger and you are good to go7/16/2014 4:49:22 PM |

My post from page 239... in regards to the lcp. I wouldn't trust one without the BT Guide Rod.
Quote : | "SO. To all you LCP owners out there... I thought Ruger was synonymous with quality, however, it appears their LCP's have a minor flaw. I ordered a BT Guide Rod (stronger, more durable) and a Wolfff 12lb spring kit. This should resolve my minor annoyances with the factory 9lb spring and bring my beloved .380 up to daily duty again. If you have an LCP, I'd look into this upgrade. $25 shipped for the BT Guide Rod, and $12.98 shipped for the spring kit, both bought directly from the manufacturers. Midway and Brownels were more expensive after shipping...
Or you can buy new OEM springs and guide rods for about $10 shipped from Ruger... For piece of mind, I upgraded." |

You have to somewhat dress around the gun if you want to carry something larger than pocket carry but with a good holster and belt you should be fine. With a standard polo shirt (ie not skin tight) and shorts I can easily conceal a glock 19.
This is the holster I like, YMMV

Would I be completely nuts to trade in my Kahr P380 for a Ruger LCR in .22LR or .22WMR? I dont actually carry the P380 that much. I do carry it around the farm mostly, and it'd be nice to have something that I could plink with, load with shot for snakes, and still have some defense capability.
And yes, I know the limits of .22 calibers for self defense. Not the best, but I damn sure wouldnt want to stand in front of one. 8/1/2014 8:23:52 AM |
