you know, I really shouldn't have to - visually inspect every dish from my (BRAND NEW) dishwasher - harass the damn contractor to finish the damn job - find it easier to wash dishes by hand than use the dishwasher 6/29/2008 5:50:56 PM |

dishwashers are generally overrated imo--i usually just use them for the rinse and dry 6/29/2008 5:54:37 PM |

I don't object to having to wash dishes by hand
but dammit, we paid for a dishwasher. Not a cabinet-sized drying rack

i always hear folks talking about how their dishwasher doesn't clean well, but i've never experienced it. other than like large pots and pans, ours has always done fine. hell, my dad has one of the self-contained roll around units that hooks up to the sink faucet and it does great. washes all the plates, bowls, glasses, and cutlery just fine.

Must be nice. My parents, who are utter slobs, have a dishwasher that gets everything clean. Me? decently assiduous about scraping plates, and making the dishwasher's job easier? No such luck. I clean my damn kitchen. I throw trash away (my parents and sister? For some reason I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND, they can't be bothered to literally turn 180degrees in their kitchen to throw wrappers, paper, food waste away). Basically, I don't keep this house a pigsty, which is exactly what my folks do.
I mean, from this load of dishes, the skillet (cooked sausage in) and plate (don't remember what that had had on it) pulled from the rear of the bottom rack were just as greasy as prior to being washed.
Other dishes had dried food debris on/in them. Some of the glasses I took from the top were still soapy.
It had run all the way.
Now, the damn contractor, among other things, never bolted the dishwasher to the cabinetry, but I don't think that would be causing this problem. If it is, then great, that should be solved monday.
If not...well, that dishwasher was probably bought mid-May, so we probably can't return it. I don't know what the hell we're gonna do, but keeping it for the sheer sake of saying 'yes, there's a dishwasher' when we sell this house in 5-10 years: NOT an option.

^^^where did you get the dishwasher from? with a large appliance its likely still under warranty

Dunno
Probably Home depot, but I'll have to ask the contractor. I'll be doing that tomorrow, or whatever day she deigns to show up and finish our kitchen. I just figure that it's not technically 'broken', so a warranty wouldn't do much good, and i'm going on the assumption of a 30 day window for returning things
I came home friday to a note from her saying 'thanks for the chance to work with you! enjoy your new kitchen!'
No fucking way, lady. My spice cabinet isn't mounted, the doorway thresholds aren't done, there's still crap in the carport and on the tiles, the bookcase shelves aren't level, the dishwasher isn't secured, there's framing exposed.

my dad is so silly...
he's out in the garage with the stereo on (my parents just moved so he's trying to sort through their stuff i guess) and he did this kind of elevator move in front of the door and then started dancing...the music stopped for a minute, he slowly opened the door, and then went into an air guitar solo when the music started back...hahahahahaha 6/29/2008 6:31:28 PM |
