The french didn't mess around when it came to raiding that market. They had a good 20-stack on each side of the door, let the front dude go in on his own while firing wildly all around him
Sad no Mini-14s in the video, though.

Well today was epic. Found some HS-6 at the gun show today. picked up 2lbs, along with 1,000 CCI SPP (cheaper than Federal SPP). Ordered 1k Berry's Plated 165 bullets. I've got ~2,300 SPP, ~2.25lbs of powder, and about 400 plated bullets in the foot locker now, and with the incoming 1k plated bullets, I'll be cranking out .40s&w rounds at $8.60 a box, or about 17.2 cents a round.
Feels good to be back in the reloading business.

So at the gun show, I saw these 9mm cartridges from G2 Rip. I thought they looked pretty crazy and wanted to look up more info on the bullet dynamics. It looks quite impressive, but at $55 for a box of 25 rounds, it's also very expensive...

this is one of those gun forum topics thats raged forever
some people just like the action that hearkens back to the garand/m14
a lot of ruger products are a little more expensive than their counterparts, this is no different, and like i said the accuracy issue has improved hugely in recent years
but nobody should try to argue its a more adaptable platform than the AR 1/20/2015 5:07:37 PM |

Yeah, I am only a convert to the Church of AR-15 within the last few years, and I still like all sorts of other stuff. I think it's pretty safe to say that an AR is objectively more rifle for less money. I don't really think there's a whole lot to argue about. I can't really think of a good reason to get a Mini-14 other than "I like them on an emotional level for whatever reason and want one just because, and I don't care how much better I could do for the same or less money with something else."
That's valid. It's baffling to me; I am probably as analytical and un-emotionally driven in my decisions as you'll ever find...but if you're just buying it to have fun with, it's totally valid. Just own it and don't try to argue that it's something it's not.
Like, I have an SKS that I have never even shot. I haven't shot it because they fucking suck and to me, it's not worth the effort to get it out of the back of my safe and load it, let alone carefully aim it at something that it probably won't hit, anyway. Still, people like them just because, I don't know, it's an SKS or something...and that's fine-I hope one of them is willing to exchange a tidy sum of cash for it next time there's a gun control panic, and if that Chinese communist piece of shit brings a smile to his face, then I am genuinely happy for him.

sorry to change the subject... buuuut...
I'm looking for optic's for my AR build, and I am having trouble deciding what I want, based on various internet reviews and testimonials from friends.
Right now I'm looking at a Primary arms:
https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_2_5X_Compact_Scope_PAC2_5X_p/pac2.5x.htm
A Vortex:
https://www.primaryarms.com/Vortex_Spitfire_3x_Prism_Scope_EBR_556_Reticle_Mat_p/spr-1303.htm
and a Burris:
https://www.primaryarms.com/Burris_AR_332_3X_Prism_Sight_p/bu300208.htm
I'm leaning more towards the Primary Arms, based simply on price. I would love a true ACOG but i'm not spending that much money on something that I just take out to shoot for fun.
Anyone have experience with any of these? Do the Burris and Vortex really offer more to justify that price difference? I'm incredibly new to optics (up til now, been a hand gun and shotgun kinda guy), so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. 1/21/2015 12:16:06 PM |

What distance do you plan on shooting at? A reason you are looking at magnified optics?
PA offers fantastic products, and their prices only make it better.
What about this 1-4x https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_1_4X_24_Illuminated_Scope_PA14X_p/pa14x.htm
Or 1-6x https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_1_6X_Scope_with_Patented_ACSS_Reticle_p/paps1-6x.htm
With their mount you would still be under the other choices on cost, but increase functionality.
With any magnified optic has to deal with eye relief, but the scopes set to 1x allow both eyes open more in line with a dot optic, if that matters to you at all.

I haven't seen a mosin under $100 that wasn't beat up to all hell lately. At the gun show, there were Mosins listed for $135 for examples that had worn out stocks, pitted barrels, mismatched serials, counter-bored, etc. I paid a little extra for mine ($150 out the door from North Raleigh Guns), but mine is a near mint unmolested 1936 Tula hex receiver, serials matching, not counter-bored, no pitting, etc. Those examples have an asking price of $200 or more from what I've seen now. $75 Mosins are no more, ones worth shooting at least
But yes, Mosins are quite inaccurate and are over-hyped, like some kind of Toyota Celica or Hyundai Veloster fanboi. I've been able to dial mine in to about 2 MOA with Russian surplus steel core. For its weight and size, this is pretty terrible, but alas, 2 MOA is good enough for fun, cheap, "big caliber" target shooting. Cheap, reliable, and powerful... Its like a Russian version of a Hi-Point

I went with the Bushnell TRS-25 for my AR. Havent shot it yet though
It seems to be very well made, and functions great. For the price, i'm very happy.
Keep an eye on Palmetto State Armory though for your optics. They often have cheaper prices than amazon, etc. They had the TRS-25 for $60 a few months ago.

one more thing id like to add (sorry double post).
the way this thing is mounted on the ruger mini factory rail over the action leads to a couple pieces of brass per mag hitting the extreme right corner of the base. its only enough to have caused a slight cosmetic blemish during a day of shooting and didnt affect zero at all.
i emailed primary arms customer service describing this and asking if they sell replacement bases like the one it ships with; youve probably seen on their website where you can order it with an AR of AK specific base.
anyway apparently they have a spare parts pile and so many people elect not to use the stock base. theyre sending me one free of charge! they were also super friendly about the entire transaction. i would have happily paid for it; i just wanted a nice looking spare in case i ever sell it.

but i kinda have to wonder about a shooter who doesn't have some hoppe's #9 around, even if they don't use it very often
if i was putting together a bare minimum gun care kit, it would have brake parts cleaner, hoppe's #9, CLP, and Mobil 1 synthetic grease.

The CLP has always done what I needed and I've yet to need a different product. If you'd like to share your philosophy on gun care and maintenance, please do. I'm my experience, if you talk to 5 shooters you'll hear about at least 6 different takes on firearms cleaning.
All my firearms are relatively new and don't get a large amount of rounds between cleanings. As such, I usually disassemble, spray things down with CLP, let it do it's thing, and then scrub the bore and surfaces with power accumulation, and then wipe everything down and reassemble. 2/6/2015 6:12:15 PM |

I enjoy it...same stock as what is on my AR, so I went with what I already know. Took about 9 months in total to get stamps on everything - hell, took 4 months just to get the suppressor in to my dealer, which delayed our submission for the stamp, but the stamp for the SBR came back in 6 weeks, so I was pleasantly surprised. Hoping to go shoot it tomorrow, as it has not seen any action to date. 2/9/2015 12:58:37 PM |

im looking for advice on replacing a 'captured' hammer strut (i suppose thats the language)
obviously getting it off isnt hard, but how would you guys compress the new one?
the new one is a higher power spring, and needs to be compressed far enough where i can insert a pin to capture it again
i dont want to maul the thing and im not particularly strong; the best idea ive had so far was pushing the strut through a fork but its probably strong enough to bend it.
i think thats actually a joke with single action revolver owners; always have a form in your toolbox
i also dont have a drill press so any ideas like that are out 2/9/2015 2:52:23 PM |
