this isnt 100% a bad thing.

Leslie did almost the same thing and we won him back. Just will have to see in time.

I hope the new asst. can reel in a decent big man from a JUCO to take Uchebo's place though if we dont keep him. We are fairly thin as far as big men go.

I really want him for his rebounding presence alone.

What I've heard (take it FWIW), is that his grades aren't necessarily the issue...it's the fact that he's transferred schools so often that people aren't sure all of his credits will transfer over and allow him to graduate.

Meh.

My buddy texted me that the Packpride gurus say he may go to Kentucky, and the chances of him qualifying at State are slim, meaning he would be able to pick another school next year anyway.

He's a nice recruit but Kentucky? Really? He'll never be a starter/star there. They already have the #1 PF/C in the class and they will just recruit over a fringe Top 75 guy like him.

I guess they always need a few 4 year guys (ex. Harrellson) with all the early departures.

Why anyone ever wanted a guy who shot 36% and lost his job at fucking Iowa is beyond me

he may be dating back to when the search started and probably doesn't know the staff at all...i guess it would be different if we brought in a staff that was previously together at another school that "may" have recruited him at one time...

i don't know though...seems like a little bit of a cop out

Seems like most are guessing he will not qualify anyways, so he would have been reclassified and able to be re-recruited anyways. If Gott likes him, I am sure he will start the process of getting back in touch with him after his academics are sorted out.

after unfulfilled expectations last year and underperforming freshman - can you really blame the guy for wavering on our program?

I mean KU already has momentum with star freshman contributors... we havent had any real program momentum since 04/05.

We're just gonna need to just do more with less for a couple of years to rebuild momentum

If you go to a school like Kentucky you better be one of the best in the nation at your position because you better believe there will be a slew of one and done burger boys fighting you for minutes every year. If Uchebo is trying to reach the next level Kentucky probably isn't the way.

Can we just refer to our new coach by his full name? Gottfried. It'd be nice if I didn't have to read Gotti or Gott in reference to our coach from now on. I don't understand the desire to shorten it by some people.

This.

Especially with a guy like Anthony Davis already committed. Plus, Vargas is already far more advanced and in the system. They are going to recruit over him anyway going forward and their offense doesn't really take advantage of a guy with his skill set.

Davis is going to do it @ Tulane next year. I wouldn't mind having him on the team still.

(I just discovered that JD played in all 31 regular season games his freshman year @ State. And his hair is much longer in his tulane pic.)

"PART ONE OF JAM PACKED JAM FEST RECAP: TYLER LEWIS EDITION

April 18, 2011 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment

By Ray Mernagh

“HEY….HEY…HEY,” came the rhythmic chant from both the Team Takeover bench and the small but vocal fan base directly behind it, all in unison with a few seconds in between as they waited for Tyler Lewis‘ defender to make physical contact with him or make him change direction. The Takeover kids on the court in help position also joined in.

It’s an age-old ritual in hoop.

What UNLV did to Bobby Hurley and the rest of his team in the NCAA Championship game his freshman year at Duke.

A great idea if it works.

Get in the kids head, piss him off, rattle him.

Scare him.

Maybe Tyler Lewis will go through some rattling at NC State when he gets there.

But for now, you know what this kid’s scared of folk?

Absolutely NATHAN!

It pissed him off alright and he responded, just about every time Takeover tried the tactic, with a dime for a dunk, a penetrating layup or floater, and 5 three’s off the bounce after getting his defender off balance with his own sound — the staccato beat his dribble would create against the floor right before he stuck yet another bucket in his defenders eye.

At one point, it might have been after the fifth 3, the Takeover Crew had to give props. Lewis turned to look at their bench, gave a little hop and a smile, and Takeover Boss Keith Stevens cracked up and smacked hands with the baller as he strolled past his bench on the way to his own for a timeout.

Another coach from Takeover, this one from the younger team, pulled up a chair on the opposite sideline of his older groups bench just as Lewis alternated between the leg dribbles for about 25 feet and then hit a fade away after getting smacked in the head for a 4-point opportunity.

The official Takeover hype-man behind the bench noticed the coach and yelled “shout out to T-Bird, shout out to T-Bird, what’s up T-Bird?”

T-Bird didn’t hesitate: “I’m watching NC State,” he said before adding, “I’m watching NC State go to work!”

Takeover was the better team on the night, and they took home the championship of the whole event and featured a handful of insanely talented kids in their own right.

But Tyler Lewis was special.

Wrap-around-the-neck passes while in the air to cutters in stride.

Dump-offs for dunks.

Behind the back finds that would bring tears to Mark Jackson’s eyes.

And of course, the finishes, mid range pull ups and the deep three’s with a defender draped on him.

33 points for the kid from smaller-town North Carolina.

And absolutely no fear whatsoever.

And why would he have fear?

Kids got an offensive game and skill set bordering on genius.

And to think a lot of folks wondered if he was reaching when he verballed to NC State.

I’m thinking they’ll be lucky to hold onto him."
